Book Distributed Computer Control Systems 1997

Download or read book Distributed Computer Control Systems 1997 written by I.M. MacLeod and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1998-01-15 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is increasingly accepted that future dependable, real-time digital computer control systems will have distributed architectures. Advantages of distributed computer control systems include the possibility of composing large systems out of pre-tested components with minimal integration effort, their well-defined fault containment properties and their capacity to make effective use of mass-produced silicon chips. The IFAC Workshop series on Distributed Computer Control Systems (DCCS) focuses on design requirements and fundamental principles encountered in such systems and highlights and traces the growth of key concepts at their various stages of development. Theoretical and application-oriented viewpoints receive equal emphasis. These Workshops also provide an excellent forum for the exchange of information on recent technological advances and practices in the distributed computer control field. The 1997 DCCS Workshop was notable for the attention given to practical implementations of ideas that have been under discussion for decades and maintained the high technical standard set by previous Workshops in the series - the policy of concentrating on a specific topic, inviting a number of key authors and of accepting only a limited number of papers paid dividends.

Book Distributed Computer Control Systems 1998 DCCS 98

Download or read book Distributed Computer Control Systems 1998 DCCS 98 written by International Federation of Automatic Control and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1999 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer control systems are increasingly required to be highly dependable and to have deterministic timing properties. Distributed architectures have the potential to meet this challenge. The advantages of distributed computer control systems include the possibility of composing large systems out of pre-tested components with small integration effort, their well-defined fault containment properties and their capacity to make effective use of mass-produced silicon chips. The IFAC Workshop series on Distributed Computer Control Systems (DCCS) highlights and traces the growth of key concepts in this field at their various stages of development. Theoretical and practice-oriented viewpoints receive equal emphasis and there is a creative blending of the disciplines of computer science and control engineering. The 1998 DCCS Workshop was notable for the attention given to true real-time communication networks and protocols. The complexity of the trade-off between services, dependability mechanisms and system-level properties was highlighted, and rigorous modelling and analysis methodologies were discussed. Event-triggered and time-triggered protocols were contrasted. Models for analysing and predicting response times in distributed systems and for predicting the effect of response-time jitter on the performance of feedback control loops were presented. The application of formal methods to the specification and development of safety-critical control software also received much attention. Distributed object methodologies and object request brokers were also highlighted as being promising approaches for the programming of large-scale, heterogeneous distributed systems. Applications reported included control systems for traffic lights, jet engines, automobiles, fully-automatic trains and flexible manufacturing systems.

Book Distributed Computer Control Systems 2000

Download or read book Distributed Computer Control Systems 2000 written by A. Sowmya and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 2001-05-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Proceedings contain the papers presented at the 16th IFAC Workshop on Distributed Computer Control Systems (DCCS) held in Sydney, Australia in December 2000. Development of distributed computer control systems makes demands on the disciplines of computer science and engineering as well as electrical engineering, and usually involves both hardware and software that is reliable and with assured timing properties. The DCCS series of workshops contributes to this inter-disciplinary area by bringing together academic researchers and practitioners who may normally not attend the same events. During the past decade, DCCS has focused on novel technologies for distributed control systems. These papers fall in the areas of classical control theory, computer architecture, real-time computer networks, and formal methods for real-time systems, besides application papers in all of these areas. Out of 34 submitted papers, 24 were selected for presentation at the workshop.

Book Distributed Systems for System Architects

Download or read book Distributed Systems for System Architects written by Paulo Veríssimo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary audience for this book are advanced undergraduate students and graduate students. Computer architecture, as it happened in other fields such as electronics, evolved from the small to the large, that is, it left the realm of low-level hardware constructs, and gained new dimensions, as distributed systems became the keyword for system implementation. As such, the system architect, today, assembles pieces of hardware that are at least as large as a computer or a network router or a LAN hub, and assigns pieces of software that are self-contained, such as client or server programs, Java applets or pro tocol modules, to those hardware components. The freedom she/he now has, is tremendously challenging. The problems alas, have increased too. What was before mastered and tested carefully before a fully-fledged mainframe or a closely-coupled computer cluster came out on the market, is today left to the responsibility of computer engineers and scientists invested in the role of system architects, who fulfil this role on behalf of software vendors and in tegrators, add-value system developers, R&D institutes, and final users. As system complexity, size and diversity grow, so increases the probability of in consistency, unreliability, non responsiveness and insecurity, not to mention the management overhead. What System Architects Need to Know The insight such an architect must have includes but goes well beyond, the functional properties of distributed systems.
