Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review of ground shock data from recent large, near-surface high-explosive tests is made. Emphasis is on close-in motions in rock. Wave forms are shown for selected shots and locations. Comparisons are made among wave forms for similar test conditions in different geologic materials including soil, shale, granite, and sandstone. Variations in peak motion amplitudes at various depths and ranges are discussed for the different geologic materials. (Author).

Download or read book Effect of Constitutive Properties of Earth Media on Outrunning Ground Shock from Large Explosions written by Paul F. Hadala and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outrunning ground shock data from the 100- to 10-psi overpressure decade in six large surface high explosive (HE) tests, three from a rock site and three from a glaciated soil site, were analyzed for the effect of gross changes in constitutive properties. Axisymmetric wave propagation code calculations in layered linear and nonlinear (incrementally elastic-plastic) media were performed to determine the effects of introducing nonlinearity, selected material property variations, and the relative importance of airblast and direct induced effects from surface explosions in the overpressure decade of interest.

Download or read book Operation Dial Pack Project LN305 written by Donald W. Murrell and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this project was to measure and analyze ground shock in the outrunning region produced by the 500-ton Dial Pack detonation. Motions and stresses were measured at 645- and 840-foot ground ranges at depths of 1.5, 5, 10, and 20 feet. Thirty-one of thirty-two gages produced good records; time histories are included in Appendixes A and B, and frequency response spectra are presented in Appendix C. (Modified author abstract).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this study were to measure and to analyze the earth motions and stresses produced by the Dial Pack 500-ton TNT detonation. Particle acceleration, particle velocity, and soil stress gages were installed to measure the ground motions and stresses in the 1,500- to 50-psi predicted air-blast overpressure region (83 to 540 feet from ground zero) at depths below the ground surface of 1.5 to 30 feet. Time histories of all successful measurements are included in Appendixes A and B. Ground shock arrival time data indicated the occurrence of outrunning ground motion at the ground surface at a distance of about 600 feet from ground zero, or the 35-psi pressure level.
