Book Dissipativity in Control Engineering

Download or read book Dissipativity in Control Engineering written by Alexander Schaum and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2021-07-19 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dissipativity, as a natural mechanism of energy interchange is common to many physical systems that form the basis of modern automated control applications. Over the last decades it has turned out as a useful concept that can be generalized and applied in an abstracted form to very different system setups, including ordinary and partial differential equation models. In this monograph, the basic notions of stability, dissipativity and systems theory are connected in order to establish a common basis for designing system monitoring and control schemes. The approach is illustrated with a set of application examples covering finite and infinite-dimensional models, including a ship steering model, the inverted pendulum, chemical and biological reactors, relaxation oscillators, unstable heat equations and first-order hyperbolic integro-differential equations.

Book Networks of Dissipative Systems

Download or read book Networks of Dissipative Systems written by Murat Arcak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses a major problem for today’s large-scale networked systems: certification of the required stability and performance properties using analytical and computational models. On the basis of illustrative case studies, it demonstrates the applicability of theoretical methods to biological networks, vehicle fleets, and Internet congestion control. Rather than tackle the network as a whole —an approach that severely limits the ability of existing methods to cope with large numbers of physical components— the book develops a compositional approach that derives network-level guarantees from key structural properties of the components and their interactions. The foundational tool in this approach is the established dissipativity theory, which is reviewed in the first chapter and supplemented with modern computational techniques. The book blends this theory with the authors’ recent research efforts at a level that is accessible to graduate students and practising engineers familiar with only the most basic nonlinear systems concepts. Code associated with the numerical examples can be downloaded at extras.springer.com, allowing readers to reproduce the examples and become acquainted with the relevant software.

Book Impulsive and Hybrid Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Impulsive and Hybrid Dynamical Systems written by Wassim M. Haddad and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-09-08 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops a general analysis and synthesis framework for impulsive and hybrid dynamical systems. Such a framework is imperative for modern complex engineering systems that involve interacting continuous-time and discrete-time dynamics with multiple modes of operation that place stringent demands on controller design and require implementation of increasing complexity--whether advanced high-performance tactical fighter aircraft and space vehicles, variable-cycle gas turbine engines, or air and ground transportation systems. Impulsive and Hybrid Dynamical Systems goes beyond similar treatments by developing invariant set stability theorems, partial stability, Lagrange stability, boundedness, ultimate boundedness, dissipativity theory, vector dissipativity theory, energy-based hybrid control, optimal control, disturbance rejection control, and robust control for nonlinear impulsive and hybrid dynamical systems. A major contribution to mathematical system theory and control system theory, this book is written from a system-theoretic point of view with the highest standards of exposition and rigor. It is intended for graduate students, researchers, and practitioners of engineering and applied mathematics as well as computer scientists, physicists, and other scientists who seek a fundamental understanding of the rich dynamical behavior of impulsive and hybrid dynamical systems.

Book Nonlinear Dynamical Systems and Control

Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamical Systems and Control written by Wassim M. Haddad and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-19 with total page 975 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Dynamical Systems and Control presents and develops an extensive treatment of stability analysis and control design of nonlinear dynamical systems, with an emphasis on Lyapunov-based methods. Dynamical system theory lies at the heart of mathematical sciences and engineering. The application of dynamical systems has crossed interdisciplinary boundaries from chemistry to biochemistry to chemical kinetics, from medicine to biology to population genetics, from economics to sociology to psychology, and from physics to mechanics to engineering. The increasingly complex nature of engineering systems requiring feedback control to obtain a desired system behavior also gives rise to dynamical systems. Wassim Haddad and VijaySekhar Chellaboina provide an exhaustive treatment of nonlinear systems theory and control using the highest standards of exposition and rigor. This graduate-level textbook goes well beyond standard treatments by developing Lyapunov stability theory, partial stability, boundedness, input-to-state stability, input-output stability, finite-time stability, semistability, stability of sets and periodic orbits, and stability theorems via vector Lyapunov functions. A complete and thorough treatment of dissipativity theory, absolute stability theory, stability of feedback systems, optimal control, disturbance rejection control, and robust control for nonlinear dynamical systems is also given. This book is an indispensable resource for applied mathematicians, dynamical systems theorists, control theorists, and engineers.

Book Control and System Theory of Discrete Time Stochastic Systems

Download or read book Control and System Theory of Discrete Time Stochastic Systems written by Jan H. van Schuppen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-02 with total page 940 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book helps students, researchers, and practicing engineers to understand the theoretical framework of control and system theory for discrete-time stochastic systems so that they can then apply its principles to their own stochastic control systems and to the solution of control, filtering, and realization problems for such systems. Applications of the theory in the book include the control of ships, shock absorbers, traffic and communications networks, and power systems with fluctuating power flows. The focus of the book is a stochastic control system defined for a spectrum of probability distributions including Bernoulli, finite, Poisson, beta, gamma, and Gaussian distributions. The concepts of observability and controllability of a stochastic control system are defined and characterized. Each output process considered is, with respect to conditions, represented by a stochastic system called a stochastic realization. The existence of a control law is related to stochastic controllability while the existence of a filter system is related to stochastic observability. Stochastic control with partial observations is based on the existence of a stochastic realization of the filtration of the observed process.

Book L2 Gain and Passivity Techniques in Nonlinear Control

Download or read book L2 Gain and Passivity Techniques in Nonlinear Control written by Arjan van der Schaft and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With respect to the first edition as Volume 218 in the Lecture Notes in Con trol and Information Sciences series the basic idea of the second edition has remained the same: to provide a compact presentation of some basic ideas in the classical theory of input-output and closed-loop stability, together with a choice of contributions to the recent theory of nonlinear robust and 1foo control and passivity-based control. Nevertheless, some parts of the book have been thoroughly revised and/or expanded, in order to have a more balanced presen tation of the theory and to include some of the new developments which have been taken place since the appearance of the first edition. I soon realized, how ever, that it is not possible to give a broad exposition of the existing literature in this area without affecting the spirit of the book, which is precisely aimed at a compact presentation. So as a result the second edition still reflects very much my personal taste and research interests. I trust that others will write books emphasizing different aspects. Major changes with respect to the first edition are the following: • A new section has been added in Chapter 2 relating L2-gain and passivity via scattering, emphasizing a coordinate-free, geometric, treatment. • The section on stability in Chapter 3 has been thoroughly expanded, also incorporating some recent results presented in [182J.
