Download or read book Display Evaluation Report A Survey of Twenty Color CRT Monitors written by National information display lab princeton nj and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a survey of the performance of twenty color CRT monitors. All have addressability of either 1600 x 1280 or 1600 x 1200 pixels, and image sizes from 20 to 21 inches. The report provides: Comparisons of the performance of the twenty monitors, A two page summary of the performance of each of the twenty monitors. The results are given in a standardized graphical format. The purpose of the report is to provide an overview of the performance of these monitors. To do that, we have concentrated on the most important monitor parameters, providing the reader with information that will allow a rapid and timely review. These parameters are: Luminance (brightness) Resolution (measured and interpreted in several ways), Convergence ; Waviness (distortion). In color monitors, the desired image can beat with the phosphor dots or stripes leading to a disturbing pattern of wavy bars called Mofre'. Mofre' is difficult to quantify; it is very apparent to the eye in some images, but not in others. In this report we refer to Mofre' only in the Comments sections of the individual monitor reports in the following section.

Book Display Evaluation Report A Survey of Five 5 MegaPixel Monochrome CRT Monitors for Medical and Government Imaging Applications

Download or read book Display Evaluation Report A Survey of Five 5 MegaPixel Monochrome CRT Monitors for Medical and Government Imaging Applications written by National information display lab princeton nj and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the performance of five, high-brightness, monochrome, 21-inch viewing diagonal, portrait, CRT monitors with addressability of 2,048 x 2,560 pixels have been conducted, analyzed, and reported in accordance with consistent metrological practices developed by the NIDL. In terms of two performance metrics, the number of "resolvable pixels on grayscale imagery" and peak luminance, the monitors range in performance from 2.9 to 5.2 million pixels and from 240 candelas per square meter (70 footLamberts) to 514 cd/m2 (150fL). Although each monitor can address 2,048 x 2,560 pixels, each monitor achieves a different number of resolvable pixels because of differences in the size of the scanned electron beam spot at the phosphor screen. Measurements of the spot shape and size were conducted and plotted on the same scale to facilitate comparison. The range in peak luminance arises from the range in transmission of the CRT faceplate glass (30% to 50%), the efficiency of the phosphor screen, and the peak beam current the CRT and monitor circuitry were specified to operate at. Given a number of monitors all matched in peak brightness, those with low faceplate glass transmission are expected to provide visibly-higher contrast in brightly-lit viewing environments and, therefore, to better enable people to detect low-brightness, low-contrast detail in images. Given a number of monitors of the same peak brightness and transmission and under the same ambient lighting, those with a larger number of resolved pixels will provide a sharper looking image that better enables detection of detail. Given a number of monitors with the same transmission and resolvable number of pixels and under the same ambient lighting conditions, those with higher peak luminance and, therefore, higher dynamic range, are expected to better enable the detection of low-brightness, low-contrast pixels or small clusters of pixels in an image.

Book The Development and Evaluation of Color Display Systems for Airborne Applications Phase 1 Fundamental Visual Perceptual and Display System Considerations

Download or read book The Development and Evaluation of Color Display Systems for Airborne Applications Phase 1 Fundamental Visual Perceptual and Display System Considerations written by L. D. Silverstein and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A great number of complex, interacting factors determine the effectiveness of a color display system. Many of these factors characterize visual displays in general, while others are specifically related to the production of use of color. Because it is difficult, if not unwise, to isolate and consider human visual and perceptual factors separately from color display system hardware characteristics, both operator and display system requirements must be analyzed according to common functional units. The objectives of the study were to review the current philosophy and standards on the airborne applications of electronic color display systems, develop guidelines for specifying and measuring color CRT display performance parameters, conduct a survey of currently available color systems, review and evaluate existing system capabilities, and predict future trends and applications in color display systems and componentry. Keywords: Color displays; Visual displays; Display perceptual considerations; Aircraft displays; Display systems; Color display specifications; Crew alerting; CRT displays; Human factors; Alerting systems; Electronic displays.

Book Further Evaluation of Methods for Producing Desired Colors on CRT Monitors

Download or read book Further Evaluation of Methods for Producing Desired Colors on CRT Monitors written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three experiments were performed to evaluate methods for predicting the luminances and chromaticity coordinates produced by color CRT monitors, given known inputs. Linear and logarithmic versions of PLCC and PLVC, plus Berns, Motta, and Gorzynski's power function, were tested. Estimates are provided for the number of CRT measurement points needed to maximize each method's predictive accuracy. Correcting for unintended light from the monitor is shown to improve accuracy substantially for a case involving a seemingly small amount of light. Berns et. al.'s characterization technique, which involves measuring the monitor's neutral point, is shown to yield the same accuracy as conventional characterization while reducing the number of measurements required, and to yield improved accuracy when correction for unintended light is needed but impractical. The accuracies of the predictive methods are compared and recommendations for their use are provided.

Book Display Monitor Measurement Methods Under Discussion by EIA Electronic Industries Association Committee JT 20 Part 2 Color CRT Monitor Performance

Download or read book Display Monitor Measurement Methods Under Discussion by EIA Electronic Industries Association Committee JT 20 Part 2 Color CRT Monitor Performance written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this document is to provide practical, tested procedures for obtaining and reporting consistent and repeatable performance measurements of color CRT displays, especially those used in imagery analysis. The reported results of these measurements can be used to determine whether a candidate display can meet the needs of Image Analysts and other critical users, such as radiologists in the medical imaging community. This document enables users to easily make an objective comparison when choosing between candidate displays. The goal is not to reinvent, but to identify, incorporate, and revise as appropriate, measurement standards that other standards generating bodies have established. The establishment of such measurement and reporting standards, and promotion of their use, will provide a common language by which display users can communicate their needs to display manufacturers, better enabling the manufacturers to recognize the critical performance criteria which must be met in order to successfully provide increasingly higher quality, more cost effective color CRT displays to the user.
