Book Condensazione Di Bose Einstein Nei Gas Atomici

Download or read book Condensazione Di Bose Einstein Nei Gas Atomici written by M. Inguscio and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although first proposed by Einstein in 1924, Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in a gas was not achieved until 1995 when, using a combination of laser cooling and trapping, and magnetic trapping and evaporation, it was first observed in rubidium and then in lithium and sodium, cooled down to extremely low temperatures. This book brought together many leaders in both theory and experiment on Bose-Einstein condensation in gases. Their lectures provided a detailed coverage of the experimental techniques for the creation and study of BEC, as well as the theoretical foundation for understanding the properties of this novel system. This volume provides the first systematic review of the field and the many developments that have taken place in the past three years.

Book Strangeness and Spin in Fundamental Physics

Download or read book Strangeness and Spin in Fundamental Physics written by M. Anselmino and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2008-07-14 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strangeness and Spin in Fundamental Physics is dedicated to the discussion of the role played by two subtle and somehow puzzling quantum numbers, the strangeness and the spin, in fundamental physics. They both relate to basic properties of the fundamental quantum field theories describing strong and electro-weak interactions and to their phenomenological applications. In some instances, like the partonic spin structure of the proton, they are deeply correlated. The many puzzling results recently obtained by measuring several spin asymmetries have stimulated gigantic progresses in the study of the spin structure of protons and neutrons. Intense theoretical activity has discovered new features of non-perturbative QCD, like strong correlations between the spin and the intrinsic motions of quarks inside the nucleons. The purpose of this publication is that of providing a complete, updated and critical account of the most recent and relevant discoveries in the above fields, both from the experimental and theoretical sides.

Download or read book Thermal Radiation Phenomena written by Roll K. M. Landshoff and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 955 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is part of a comprehensive review of the thermal radiative properties of air by the Lockheed Palo Alto Research Laboratory for the Defense Atomic Support Agency. The review was published as DASA 1917 (Unclassified) in four parts, April, 1967. Most of this material is now being offered in new editions by Plenum Press. The authors and editors hope that it will be more widely available to scientists and engineers who work in the various fields which require the use of high temperature air properties. F. R. Gilmore and A. Hochstim have revised and increased the material presented in DASA 1917-1 in "Equilibrium Thermodynamic Properties of Air" . The present editors have prepared an introduction for the tables presented in DASA 1917-3 so that "Tables of Radiative Properties of Air" offered herewith is essentially self-contained. A few more figures have been added and a number of errors have been corrected. We have also prepared a slightly revised edition of DASA 1917-4, "Excitation and Non-E"quilibrium Phenomena inAir," offered by Plenum Press at this time as a companion volume. DASA 1917-2, "The Radiative Properties of Heated Air" by B. H. Armstrong and R. W. Nicholls is not being offered in a new edition at this time.

Book Metrology and Physical Constants

Download or read book Metrology and Physical Constants written by A. Di Giuseppe and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2013-10-21 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reliability and accuracy of systems of measurement continue to advance. We are about to enter a period of the most stable measurement system we can imagine with the anticipated new definitions of the SI units of measurement; a direct link between fundamental physics and metrology which will eliminate the current definition of the kilogram, until now based upon an artifact. This book presents selected papers from Course 185 of the Enrico Fermi International School of Physics, held in Varenna, Italy, in July 2012 and jointly organized with the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM). The papers delivered at the school covered some of the most advanced topics in the discipline of metrology, including nano-technologies; quantum information and quantum devices; biology and medicine; food; surface quality; ionising radiation for health, environment, art and archaeology; and climate. The continuous and striking advances in basic research concerning atomic frequency standards operating both in the visible range and at microwave levels and the applications to satellite systems are also considered, in the framework of a historical review of the international organization of metrology, as are the problems inherent in uncertainty statements and definitions. This book will be of interest to all those whose work involves scientific measurement at the highest levels of accuracy.

Book Experimental Quantum Computation and Information

Download or read book Experimental Quantum Computation and Information written by Francesco De Martini and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Fermi Summer School of Physics on Experimental Quantum Information and Computing represents a primer on an expanding new area of physics. In this part, the interest in quantum information (QI) science is due to the discovery that a computer operating on quantum mechanical principles can solve certain important computational problems exponentially faster than any conceivable classical computer. But this interest is also due to the interdisciplinary nature of the field: the rapid growth is attributable, in part, to the stimulating confluence of researchers and ideas from physics, chemistry, mathematics, information theory and computer science.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Thierry Passot
  • Publisher : American Mathematical Soc.
  • Release : 2005
  • ISBN : 0821837230
  • Pages : 322 pages

Download or read book Topics in Kinetic Theory written by Thierry Passot and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers a variety of topics related to kinetic theory in neutral gases and magnetized plasmas, with extensions to other systems such as quantum plasmas and granular flows. A comprehensive presentation is given for the Boltzmann equations and other kinetic equations for a neutral gas, together with the derivations of compressible and incompressible fluid dynamical systems, and their rigorous justification. Several contributions are devoted to collisionless magnetized plasmas. Rigorous results concerning the well-posedness of the Vlasov-Maxwell system are presented. Special interest is devoted to asymptotic regimes where the scales of variation of the electromagnetic field are clearly separated from those associated with the gyromotion of the particles. This volume collects lectures given at the Short Course and Workshop on Kinetic Theory organized at the Fields Institute of Mathematical Sciences in Toronto during the Spring of 2004.

Book Diagnostic Tools in Atmospheric Physics

Download or read book Diagnostic Tools in Atmospheric Physics written by Società italiana di fisica and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses a number of experimental techniques and methods for the treatment of data introduced in the last ten years or so in different fields of the atmospheric sciences. Considerable emphasis has been given since their introduction to the use of satellites or spaceborne measurements with a recent example being the important results obtained with UARS. Of particular interest are the airborne instruments developed for the stratospheric measurement campaign organized by the NASA since 1976 to study the ozone hole and followed later by similar experiments to study the high-latitude ozone depletion in the northern hemisphere. The results of these experiments have helped clarify the role of chlorine-bearing compounds in the ozone depletion and the effect of the heterogeneous processes. The book is organized in 4 chapters: the first 3 divide the different techniques according to the location of the measuring instrumentation (ground, air and space) with the 4th chapter dealing with theory and analysis.
