The name "Dispensary," to which these institutions are historically heirs, suggests merely the giving of medicine. This has perhaps delayed the public mind in grasping the fact that giving medicine has become an incidental activity, and that the chief present function of Dispensaries is furnishing medical advice and treatment. The present generation has indeed witnessed remarkable changes in medical science.
