Book An Introduction to Composite Materials

Download or read book An Introduction to Composite Materials written by D. Hull and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-08-13 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition has been greatly enlarged and updated to provide both scientists and engineers with a clear and comprehensive understanding of composite materials. In describing both theoretical and practical aspects of their production, properties and usage, the book crosses the borders of many disciplines. Topics covered include: fibres, matrices, laminates and interfaces; elastic deformation, stress and strain, strength, fatigue crack propagation and creep resistance; toughness and thermal properties; fatigue and deterioration under environmental conditions; fabrication and applications. Coverage has been increased to include polymeric, metallic and ceramic matrices and reinforcement in the form of long fibres, short fibres and particles. Designed primarily as a teaching text for final-year undergraduates in materials science and engineering, this book will also interest undergraduates and postgraduates in chemistry, physics, and mechanical engineering. In addition, it will be an excellent source book for academic and technological researchers on materials.

Book Crystal Dislocations Their Impact on Physical Properties of Crystals

Download or read book Crystal Dislocations Their Impact on Physical Properties of Crystals written by Peter Lagerlof and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proposed existence of the edge and screw dislocation in the 1930s, and the subsequent work showing that dislocation theory could explain the plastic deformation of crystals, represent an important step in developing our understanding of materials into a science. The continued work involved with characterization of dislocations and linking them to a variety of physical properties in both single and poly crystals have made enormous progress over the past 50 years. It is rare to find a technical application involving a material with any crystal structure that is not impacted by dislocations; mechanical properties, massive phase transformations, interphases, crystal growth, electronic properties, the list goes on. In many systems the properties is controlled by the formation of partial dislocations separated by a stacking fault; for example plastic deformation via deformation twinning. And finally, giant strides have been made in characterization and modeling of systems containing dislocations. The Special Issue on “Crystal Dislocations” is intended to provide a unique international forum aimed at covering a broad range of results involving dislocations and their importance on crystal properties and crystal growth. Scientists working in a wide range of disciplines are invited to contribute to this cause.Dr. K. Peter D. Lagerlof, Associate Professor of CeramicsGuest Editor

Book Introduction to Dislocations

Download or read book Introduction to Dislocations written by Derek Hull and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2001-07-02 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Dislocations was first published in 1965 in a series aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students in metallurgy and materials science and related disciplines. At the time, the subject was maturing and it was expected that 'dislocation concepts' would remain a core discipline for a very long time. As expected, the book has been, and remains, an important undergraduate text all over the world. A wider range of materials has emerged since 1965, most notably in the field of electronics and micro-engineering. The principles of dislocation theory still apply but some of the detail requires further treatment. This fourth edition provides an essential basis for an understanding of many of the physical and mechanical properties of crystalline solids. This new edition has been extensively revised and updated to reflect developments in the understanding of the subject, whilst retaining the clarity and comprehensibility of the previous editions.

Book Classical Theory Of Crystal Dislocations From Iron To Gallium Nitride

Download or read book Classical Theory Of Crystal Dislocations From Iron To Gallium Nitride written by Saka Hiroyasu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-09-11 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book consists of two parts: Part 1 is a standard text of dislocation theory. Mathematics is avoided as much as possible. Part 2 describes application of dislocation theory, which includes mechanical properties (including the inverse temperature dependence of strength) and dislocations in functional materials such as Si, GaN and SiC and dislocations in a thin crystal such as an epitaxial layer. This is what has been long anticipated among researchers in industry. The book contains about 330 illustrations (mostly originals by the author) and the pictures obtained by the author by means of in-situ experiment in a transmission electron microscope over the past 50 years. This book includes many exercises, which the author found useful when he was teaching in Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Nagoya University to stimulate their interests in dislocation theory.

Book Modern Crystallography IV

Download or read book Modern Crystallography IV written by L.A. Shuvalov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-12-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Crystallography IV is devoted to a systematic and up- to-date description of fundamental physical properties of solid and liquid crystals. These include elastic and mechanical, dielectric and ferroelectric, magnetic and optical properties, transport phenomena and spectroscopy. An important feature of the treatment is its use of the crystallographic approach, an introduction to which is given in the opening chapter of the book. The topics are treated at a level understandable to students who have two years of university physics. Researchers and engineers working on practical applications should also find the book useful, as should specialists in other fields who wish to broaden their knowledge of crystallography and materials science. The book is written by a group of leading scientists from the Institute of Crystallography of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
