Excerpt: ...seventh hour the fever left him, ' that being the hour at which Jesus had said, ' Thy son liveth.' The supposition that the sudden departure of the fever merely indicated the termination of a paroxysm of intermittent fever is inconsistent with the whole tenour of the account given us. CHAPTER III. OPHTHALMIC DISEASES AND BLINDNESS. THE special observances with regard to the blind that are mentioned in the Old Testament, would indicate that they were a numerous class at the time of the Exodus. ' Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of the way.' In the New Testament we not only have special instances of our Lord's giving them sight, but repeated references, in general terms, to the blind as a class, who found in Jesus evidence of His Messiahship by their recovery of sight at His hands. It is notorious that ophthalmic disease and blindness have always been very common in the East, and are so still. Egyptian ophthalmia has long been known as one of the most severe and destructive forms of inflammation of the eye. In proof of this it is only necessary to refer to the military annals, both English and French, of the Napoleonic and other Egyptian campaigns. Various causes have been assigned for its prevalence in Egypt and other Eastern climes, especially intensity of light and heat, together with searching winds rilling the air with fine sand and other irritating matters, which may be sufficient to account for its wide-spreading prevalence at certain times. But the Egyptian ophthalmia is also contagious and communicable by the transfer of the purulent secretion from one eye to another. By this kind of ophthalmia the sight is often rapidly destroyed, and even the whole eye disorganised. It has sometimes spread with fearful rapidity as.

Book Does God Send Sickness

Download or read book Does God Send Sickness written by Troy J. Edwards and published by Troy Edwards. This book was released on 2020-08-26 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “God is said in Scripture to send what he can (but doth not) hinder from being sent.” – Edward Bird (1726)God has been taking the blame for sickness and disease for centuries. We have been told that He sends sickness as an aid to spiritual growth and piety or as a punishment for sin. Vast amounts of Scripture have been cited to support this claim. This idea has contributed to the lack of faith prevalent in the church today for healing and deliverance. After all, if God gave a person sickness then His willingness to heal is questionable. Faith can only be present where the will of God is known. However, if sickness is seen as an enemy of God then faith in God’s willingness to heal is more likely to rise.Numerous apologetic books have been written in support of divine healing, but most have not dealt completely with the many Biblical passages that appear to make God the direct cause of sickness. This book is different in that it will look at these difficult Bible passages in light of the permissive idiom of the ancient Hebrew language, in which God is often said to do the things that He merely allowed or permitted to happen. Those passages in both the Old and New Testaments that make God appear to be a cold and cruel dispenser of sickness and disease will be seen in a new light. You will see God’s loving character vindicated, your Bible will be a fresh source of blessing, and your faith in God for health and healing will soar.

Book Exposing the Spiritual Roots of Disease

Download or read book Exposing the Spiritual Roots of Disease written by Henry W. Wright and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Exposing the Spiritual Roots of Disease, Dr. Henry Wright presents a thoroughly biblical and compelling case for healing. If you think you’ve read all you need to know about healing, it’s time to take another look. In this updated edition with expanded material, Dr. Wright clearly shows that disease is not a random occurrence and that science and medicine have their place in dealing with illness but can only offer disease management. What if the answers to true healing and freedom have been in the Bible all along? Dr. Wright spent decades learning the spiritual roots of disease and blocks to healing. In his journey, he discovered that there is a spiritual root issue in about 80 percent of all diseases, which is a direct result of a breakdown in our relationship with God, ourselves, or others. Through his groundbreaking teachings, he helped hundreds of thousands to experience wholeness in their lives. If you have recently received a diagnosis or have been struggling with your health for years, there is hope and healing ahead. “Dr. Henry Wright destroys the lie that we are helpless victims of diseases…. This book is long overdue and is essential reading for any Christian struggling with sickness and for those who seek to minister to them.” —Dr. Rebecca Williams, MA, MB ChB, DRCOG, DCH, DTM&H “Dr. Wright uses a solid scriptural base to reveal the roots of disease and give clear guidance on how we can be free in spirit, soul, and body!” —Sheila Pitcock, LVN

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Diseases of the Bible One of our most illustrious physicians, distinguished alike as an accomplished scholar and patron of learning and the arts, Dr. Richard Mead, Court Physician to George II, was the first British author who published, towards the end of his busy life, a distinct and scholarly work on the Diseases of the Bible, entitled Medica Sacra. For neither of these classes are the following pages primarily intended, but rather for the ordinary educated student of the Scriptures, whether professional or not. The subject, however, involves the discussion of questions demanding the aid of both the initiated and the learned. I have endeavoured to abstain as much as possible from either method or language that would not help the general reader, and have confined myself mainly to the medical aspects of the subjects discussed. To my friends, Dr. W. A. Greenhill and the Rev. Dr. Green, my grateful thanks are due for the assistance which they have kindly afforded me. To Dr. Greenhill, not only for the benefit which I have derived from his published writings, but also for the valued criticisms and help with which he has favoured me while these sheets have been passing through the press; to Dr. Green, for the needed aid of his Hebrew scholarship.
