Book The Cystic Kidney

    Book Details:
  • Author : K.D. Gardner
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9400904576
  • Pages : 441 pages

Download or read book The Cystic Kidney written by K.D. Gardner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about renal cysts and cystic kidneys. Its contributors have created a resource of current information in a field that once aroused only curiosity, but that now stands at the leading edge of molecular nephrology. Its authorship includes 'oldtimers', who bring the wisdom of experience, and 'newcomers', whose presence attests to the contributions made by the investigative and technological advances of the past decade. Its text is organized to carry the reader from renal cyst to cystic renal disease. Each of its chapters defines or explores a challenge or an advance. Cells that line renal cysts are diverse in structure, type, and perhaps function. The cysts themselves lie within an interstitium that is not normal and may influence cyst development and growth. Experimental analogs of human disease offer increasing opportunities to basic researchers to examine, in sequence and under controlled circumstances, those events that favor nephron dilation, cyst growth and ultimate renal failure.

Book IgG4 Related Kidney Disease

Download or read book IgG4 Related Kidney Disease written by Takao Saito and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-09 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a detailed review of the pathological and imaging features, diagnosis and treatment of IgG4-Related Kidney Disease (IgG4-RKD). IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD), which is characterized by an elevated serum IgG4 level and infiltration of systemic organs by IgG4 positive plasma cells, is a newly recognized systemic disease. Diverse renal manifestations including specific tubulointerstitial nephritis, membranous nephropathy, and tumor-like urological diseases extending to the pelvis and urinary tract in IgG4-RD have been reported and are recently attracting attention as IgG4-RKD. In this book, leading researchers in the field present the latest insights into the broad spectrum of IgG4-RKD characteristics. In addition, they provide a detailed explanation of the pathology of IgG4-RKD including comparisons between the kidney and other affected organs, such as the lacrimal, salivary glands and pancreas in the histopathological section. IgG4-Related Kidney Disease will have a major impact on future immunological and nephrological studies and offers a useful resource not only for nephrologists but also general physicians and investigators in related fields.

Book Ultrasound Imaging in Acute and Chronic Kidney Disease

Download or read book Ultrasound Imaging in Acute and Chronic Kidney Disease written by M. Meola and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasound imaging techniques are an indispensable complement to physical examination, which is often frustrating, if not useless, for diagnosing kidney problems. The application of ultrasound techniques in clinical routine helps clinicians to rule out, at first glance, some serious pathological conditions and to concentrate on the accurate diagnosis of the patient. Moreover, sonography can extend the spectrum of diagnostic criteria in acute kidney diseases. It makes it possible to determine morphological parameters without potentially toxic contrast media while exploring functional aspects with contrast enhanced or Doppler ultrasound techniques. This publication meets a growing demand for current information among physicians and nurses in the field. With a focus on the daily practice of diagnosing kidney disease, it is an important resource for both beginner and advanced users of ultrasound imaging techniques.

Book Imaging in Nephrology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Antonio Granata
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2021-04-29
  • ISBN : 3030607941
  • Pages : 339 pages

Download or read book Imaging in Nephrology written by Antonio Granata and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-29 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a wide-ranging guide to current and emerging applications of ultrasonography within nephrology that aims to provide readers with a sound understanding of the rationale for the use of ultrasound techniques in various disease settings, for example, complications following renal transplantation, arteriovenous fistulas, renal artery stenosis, nonstenotic renal artery pathology, renal vein pathology, aortic disease, and acute renal failure. Particular emphasis is placed on newer applications, such as those involving elastosonography, contrast-enhanced ultrasonography, and color Doppler imaging. There is no doubt that ultrasound techniques can improve the standard of care in nephrology, from vascular access planning to management of uremic complications. Nevertheless, many nephrologists continue to delegate the performance of ultrasonography to radiologists or other colleagues, which is especially regrettable given the advent of affordable, portable ultrasound scanners. This book will be of value for all clinicians interested in the role of ultrasound techniques in nephrology and will be especially useful for nephrologists seeking to incorporate ultrasonography into their practice.

Book Cardiorenal Syndrome

    Book Details:
  • Author : Adel E. Berbari
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2010-10-04
  • ISBN : 8847014638
  • Pages : 388 pages

Download or read book Cardiorenal Syndrome written by Adel E. Berbari and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-04 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chronic kidney disease with a worldwide prevalence of 10% in the general population is emerging as a major public health priority. Renal dysfunction is associated with a high risk for cardiovascular complications. The relationship between renal insufficiency and cardiovascular disease, termed the cardiorenal syndrome exists whether impairment of renal function is a consequence of primary renal parenchymal disease or primary heart disease. Several pathophysiologic mechanisms have been postulated to explain the relationship between renal dysfunction and cardiovascular disease. Recent studies indicate an integrated response of the vascular smooth muscles and glomerular mesangial cells to traditional and uremia related cardiovascular risk factors. Traditional risk factors can incite renal impairment and cardiac damage. As renal function deteriorates, uremia-related risk factors play an increasing role both in reduction in glomerular filtration rate and cardiovascular damage. Several uremia related factors such as uncontrolled hypertension, disturbed glucose insulin metabolism, microalbuminuria, phosphate retention, secondary hyperparathyroidism, myocardial and vascular calcification, hypertensive-uremic cardiomyopathy, inflammation, oxidant injury, and neurohormonal dysregulation have been implicated in the pathogenesis of the cardiorenal syndrome. Recent data suggest that management of the cardiorenal syndrome requires aggressive control of traditional risk factors as well novel approaches to prevent or reverse uremia –related processes. This book provides a comprehensive update analysis of our current understanding of the cardiorenal syndrome including epidemiology, pathophysiologic mechanisms, and therapeutic approaches.
