Download or read book Diseases and Conditions of Vegetables in Georgia written by Glenn H. Beard and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2007-03-01 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handy pocket guide gives you information and photographs for on-the-spot identification of diseases and growth problems afflicting seventeen common vegetables grown in Georgia. More than seventy vegetable ailments are described and illustrated, including various rots, blights, wilts, mildews, viruses, and rusts. The descriptions also include information on the source of the ailment, which ranges from insect infestation to adverse climate and soil conditions to the misuse of insecticides. Two indexes are included, one organized by vegetable name and one by disease and condition. Rather than a traditional binding, the guide is drilled and bound in the upper corner, allowing flash-card-like pages to be fanned out and held next to affected vegetables for easier comparison and diagnosis. Popular with Cooperative Extension agents, this guide will also find wide use by farmers and gardeners, insurance adjusters, and suppliers of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. Covers these vegetables: Cabbage Cantaloupe Carrot Collards Corn Cucumber Eggplant Lima Bean Mustard Onion Pepper Pumpkin Snap Bean Squash Tomato Turnip Watermelon

Book Georgia Pest Management Handbook

Download or read book Georgia Pest Management Handbook written by Emily Cabrera and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Georgia Pest Management Handbook provides current information on selection, application, and safe use of pest control chemicals. This handbook has recommendations for pest control around homes and on pets; for pests of home garden vegetables, fruits, and ornamentals; and for pests of public health interest associated with our homes. Cultural, biological, physical, and other types of control are recommended where appropriate. Pesticide recommendations are based on information on the manufacturer labels and on performance data from research and extension trials at the University of Georgia and its sister institutions. Because environmental conditions, the severity of pest pressure, and methods of application vary widely, recommendations do not imply that performance of pesticides will always be acceptable. This publication is intended to be used only as a guide. Trade and brand names are used only for information. The University of Georgia does not guarantee nor warrant published standards on any product mentioned; nor does the use of a trade or brand name imply approval of any product to the exclusion of others that may also be suitable. Always follow the use instructions and precautions on the pesticide label. For questions, concerns, or improvement suggestions regarding the Georgia Pest Management Handbook, please contact your county agent.

Book Handbook of the Diseases of Vegetables

Download or read book Handbook of the Diseases of Vegetables written by George K. K. Link and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Handbook of the Diseases of Vegetables: Occurring Under Market, Storage, and Transit Conditions This handbook is designed primarily to aid the inspectors of the Bureau of Markets in the detection and identification of plant diseases as they occur in vegetables under transit, storage, and market conditions. The entire inspection service and the survey and study of vegetable crop diseases under transit and market conditions, were begun but little more than a year ago, consequently this handbook, an outgrowth of that survey and study, is necessarily incomplete. The text and illustrations are the property of the United States Department of Agriculture, and are not to be used in any published form whatsoever. The description of the signs, symptoms, or effects of each plant disease is followed by a statement of the geographic distribution and the seasonal or climatic relations of the disease so far as they are known, since some diseases occur only in certain districts and often only under certain conditions. A statement is made as to the time and place of inception, development, and spread of the disease. This is especially important from a market point of view. For example, in placing the responsibility for the poor condition of a shipment caused by bacteria or fungi, it is essential to bear in mind that some diseases are field infections and do not develop nor spread in transit or storage; that others are field infections which develop or progress but do not spread in transit or storage; that others are field infections which develop and spread under transit and storage conditions; and finally that a number are transit and storage infections of stock perfectly sound when harvested. It is fully realized that at present not all decay can be referred to clearly defined causes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
