Book Discussing Everything Chinese Part 2 Workbook

Download or read book Discussing Everything Chinese Part 2 Workbook written by Shu-Yu Yeh and published by . This book was released on 2019-05-19 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 Choice for 3rd-year and 4th-year College Chinese. With free video clips and audio downloads. Written by professors from top Universities in the U.S. In simplified and traditional characters. In this new edition, we kept the topics of the first eleven lessons from the previous version but made small modifications to the dialogues and texts so they are more up to date and relevant. Three new topics are added: Ordinary People and Children of the Elite (Lesson 4), Democracy and the Modern Life (Lesson 6) and Influence of Contemporary Arts (Lesson14). This made both Part 1 and Part 2 of this new edition contain seven topics. Adding these three new lessons allows students to discuss more current topics. It also better distributes the amount of new vocabulary across each lesson and creates new contexts for the students to review and practice them. In Part 2, the 7 topics are: Leftover Population in the Marriage Market, Studying Abroad and Emigrating, Chinese Idioms and Chinese Cross Talks, Colloquial Idioms and Satirical Rhymes, Health and Gastronomy, From Revolution Songs to Pop Music and The Influence of Arts. Notes of reviewed vocabulary from previous lessons are added to the listening dialogues, reading texts, sample sentences and workbook exercises. This will make it easier for students to preview and review each lesson. At the same time, it will give instructors flexibility to select or shuffle the lessons to best fit their needs. We also included the transcripts of the dialogues at the end of the listening section and added more speaking activities related to the students' daily life. We also filmed a skit for each lesson to teach action verbs and narrative abilities and added warm-up activities, culture notes and authentic materials to each topic. In the workbook, vocabulary exercises are given in chunks to help students review vocabulary in corresponding stages. Exercises in Chinese characters are also given to help student memorize them more systematically and to strengthen their concept of character-based lexicon learning.

  • Author : Josh Kaufman
  • Publisher : Penguin
  • Release : 2013-06-13
  • ISBN : 1101623047
  • Pages : 290 pages

Download or read book The First 20 Hours written by Josh Kaufman and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013-06-13 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forget the 10,000 hour rule— what if it’s possible to learn the basics of any new skill in 20 hours or less? Take a moment to consider how many things you want to learn to do. What’s on your list? What’s holding you back from getting started? Are you worried about the time and effort it takes to acquire new skills—time you don’t have and effort you can’t spare? Research suggests it takes 10,000 hours to develop a new skill. In this nonstop world when will you ever find that much time and energy? To make matters worse, the early hours of practicing something new are always the most frustrating. That’s why it’s difficult to learn how to speak a new language, play an instrument, hit a golf ball, or shoot great photos. It’s so much easier to watch TV or surf the web . . . In The First 20 Hours, Josh Kaufman offers a systematic approach to rapid skill acquisition— how to learn any new skill as quickly as possible. His method shows you how to deconstruct complex skills, maximize productive practice, and remove common learning barriers. By completing just 20 hours of focused, deliberate practice you’ll go from knowing absolutely nothing to performing noticeably well. Kaufman personally field-tested the methods in this book. You’ll have a front row seat as he develops a personal yoga practice, writes his own web-based computer programs, teaches himself to touch type on a nonstandard keyboard, explores the oldest and most complex board game in history, picks up the ukulele, and learns how to windsurf. Here are a few of the simple techniques he teaches: Define your target performance level: Figure out what your desired level of skill looks like, what you’re trying to achieve, and what you’ll be able to do when you’re done. The more specific, the better. Deconstruct the skill: Most of the things we think of as skills are actually bundles of smaller subskills. If you break down the subcomponents, it’s easier to figure out which ones are most important and practice those first. Eliminate barriers to practice: Removing common distractions and unnecessary effort makes it much easier to sit down and focus on deliberate practice. Create fast feedback loops: Getting accurate, real-time information about how well you’re performing during practice makes it much easier to improve. Whether you want to paint a portrait, launch a start-up, fly an airplane, or juggle flaming chainsaws, The First 20 Hours will help you pick up the basics of any skill in record time . . . and have more fun along the way.

Download or read book How to Avoid a Climate Disaster written by Bill Gates and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2021-02-16 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • In this urgent, authoritative book, Bill Gates sets out a wide-ranging, practical—and accessible—plan for how the world can get to zero greenhouse gas emissions in time to avoid a climate catastrophe. Bill Gates has spent a decade investigating the causes and effects of climate change. With the help of experts in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, political science, and finance, he has focused on what must be done in order to stop the planet's slide to certain environmental disaster. In this book, he not only explains why we need to work toward net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases, but also details what we need to do to achieve this profoundly important goal. He gives us a clear-eyed description of the challenges we face. Drawing on his understanding of innovation and what it takes to get new ideas into the market, he describes the areas in which technology is already helping to reduce emissions, where and how the current technology can be made to function more effectively, where breakthrough technologies are needed, and who is working on these essential innovations. Finally, he lays out a concrete, practical plan for achieving the goal of zero emissions—suggesting not only policies that governments should adopt, but what we as individuals can do to keep our government, our employers, and ourselves accountable in this crucial enterprise. As Bill Gates makes clear, achieving zero emissions will not be simple or easy to do, but if we follow the plan he sets out here, it is a goal firmly within our reach.

Book Charles Dickens and China 1895 1915

Download or read book Charles Dickens and China 1895 1915 written by Klaudia Hiu Yen Lee and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1895 to 1915, Chinese translations of Dickens's fiction first appeared as part of a growing interest in Western literature and culture among Chinese intellectuals. Klaudia Hiu Yen investigates the multifarious ways in which Dickens’s works were adapted, reconfigured, and transformed for the Chinese readership against the turbulent political and social conditions in the last stages of the Qing dynasty (1644-1912) and the early Republic (1912-1949). Moving beyond the 'Response to the West’ model which often characterises East-West interactions, Lee explores how Chinese intellectuals viewed Dickens’s novels as performing a particular social function; on occasion, they were used to advance the country’s social and political causes. Translation and adaptation became a means through which the politics and social values of the original Dickens texts were undermined or even subverted. Situating the early introduction of Dickens to China within the broader field of Victorian studies, Lee challenges some of the theoretical and conceptual underpinnings of the ’global’ turn, both in Dickens scholarship and in Victorian studies in general.

Book The Homeric Epics and the Chinese Book of Songs

Download or read book The Homeric Epics and the Chinese Book of Songs written by Fritz-Heiner Mutschler and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Homeric epics and the Book of Songs are not just the fountainheads of the Western and Chinese literary traditions; for centuries they played a central role in education and communal life, and thus exercised a lasting influence on both civilizations. This volume presents the first systematic comparison of the two corpora. Part One analyzes their genesis and their reception, while Part Two discusses their characteristics as poetic creations. The book brings together Chinese and Western sinologists and classicists, and so promotes significant interdisciplinary and intercultural dialogue. Though the contributors rank among the leading experts in their fields, the essays here are accessible not only to their peers, but also to the interested ‘general reader’, and so to all those who seek a deeper understanding of Chinese and Western civilizations, their common human basis and their characteristic differences.
