Book Operations Research Introduction To Models And Methods

Download or read book Operations Research Introduction To Models And Methods written by Richard Johannes Boucherie and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This attractive textbook with its easy-to-follow presentation provides a down-to-earth introduction to operations research for students in a wide range of fields such as engineering, business analytics, mathematics and statistics, computer science, and econometrics. It is the result of many years of teaching and collective feedback from students. The book covers the basic models in both deterministic and stochastic operations research and is a springboard to more specialized texts, either practical or theoretical. The emphasis is on useful models and interpreting the solutions in the context of concrete applications. The text is divided into several parts. The first three chapters deal exclusively with deterministic models, including linear programming with sensitivity analysis, integer programming and heuristics, and network analysis. The next three chapters primarily cover basic stochastic models and techniques, including decision trees, dynamic programming, optimal stopping, production planning, and inventory control. The final five chapters contain more advanced material, such as discrete-time and continuous-time Markov chains, Markov decision processes, queueing models, and discrete-event simulation. Each chapter contains numerous exercises, and a large selection of exercises includes solutions.

Book Discrete Choice Analysis

Download or read book Discrete Choice Analysis written by Moshe Ben-Akiva and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2018-04-20 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discrete Choice Analysis presents these results in such a way that they are fully accessible to the range of students and professionals who are involved in modelling demand and consumer behavior in general or specifically in transportation - whether from the point of view of the design of transit systems, urban and transport economics, public policy, operations research, or systems management and planning. The methods of discrete choice analysis and their applications in the modelling of transportation systems constitute a comparatively new field that has largely evolved over the past 15 years. Since its inception, however, the field has developed rapidly, and this is the first text and reference work to cover the material systematically, bringing together the scattered and often inaccessible results for graduate students and professionals. Discrete Choice Analysis presents these results in such a way that they are fully accessible to the range of students and professionals who are involved in modelling demand and consumer behavior in general or specifically in transportation - whether from the point of view of the design of transit systems, urban and transport economics, public policy, operations research, or systems management and planning. The introductory chapter presents the background of discrete choice analysis and context of transportation demand forecasting. Subsequent chapters cover, among other topics, the theories of individual choice behavior, binary and multinomial choice models, aggregate forecasting techniques, estimation methods, tests used in the process of model development, sampling theory, the nested-logit model, and systems of models. Discrete Choice Analysis is ninth in the MIT Press Series in Transportation Studies, edited by Marvin Manheim.

Book Discrete Convex Analysis

Download or read book Discrete Convex Analysis written by Kazuo Murota and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discrete Convex Analysis is a novel paradigm for discrete optimization that combines the ideas in continuous optimization (convex analysis) and combinatorial optimization (matroid/submodular function theory) to establish a unified theoretical framework for nonlinear discrete optimization. The study of this theory is expanding with the development of efficient algorithms and applications to a number of diverse disciplines like matrix theory, operations research, and economics. This self-contained book is designed to provide a novel insight into optimization on discrete structures and should reveal unexpected links among different disciplines. It is the first and only English-language monograph on the theory and applications of discrete convex analysis.

Book Discrete Mathematics and Game Theory

Download or read book Discrete Mathematics and Game Theory written by Guillermo Owen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-11-30 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes highly applicable mathematics without using calculus or limits in general. The study agrees with the opinion that the traditional calculus/analysis is not necessarily the only proper grounding for academics who wish to apply mathematics. The choice of topics is based on a desire to present those facets of mathematics which will be useful to economists and social/behavioral scientists. The volume is divided into seven chapters. Chapter I presents a brief review of the solution of systems of linear equations by the use of matrices. Chapter III introduces the theory of probability. The rest of the book deals with new developments in mathematics such as linear and dynamic programming, the theory of networks and the theory of games. These developments are generally recognized as the most important field in the `new mathematics' and they also have specific applications in the management sciences.

Book Discrete Stochastic Processes

Download or read book Discrete Stochastic Processes written by Robert G. Gallager and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stochastic processes are found in probabilistic systems that evolve with time. Discrete stochastic processes change by only integer time steps (for some time scale), or are characterized by discrete occurrences at arbitrary times. Discrete Stochastic Processes helps the reader develop the understanding and intuition necessary to apply stochastic process theory in engineering, science and operations research. The book approaches the subject via many simple examples which build insight into the structure of stochastic processes and the general effect of these phenomena in real systems. The book presents mathematical ideas without recourse to measure theory, using only minimal mathematical analysis. In the proofs and explanations, clarity is favored over formal rigor, and simplicity over generality. Numerous examples are given to show how results fail to hold when all the conditions are not satisfied. Audience: An excellent textbook for a graduate level course in engineering and operations research. Also an invaluable reference for all those requiring a deeper understanding of the subject.

Book A Discrete Time Approach for system Analysis

Download or read book A Discrete Time Approach for system Analysis written by Michel Cuenod and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Discrete-Time Approach for System Analysis is a five-chapter text that considers the underlying principles and application of a discrete-time approach to system analysis. Chapter 1 presents several different unit functions that are used in practice and describes how to obtain a closed form for the sequence of unit functions by using the E- and the z-transforms. This chapter also compares some aspects of spectral analysis and impulse analysis, and finally, discusses some aspects of interpolation between sampled data of the functions by impulse analysis techniques. Chapter 2 provides the functional operations using the sequences of unit functions, namely, addition, subtraction, multiplication, convolution, deconvolution, integration, and differentiation. Chapter 3 examines linear, time-varying, nonlinear and partial differential equations, and the use of the discrete time approach to solve these equations. Chapters 4 and 5 discuss several applications of impulse analysis to control problems, basically, system analysis and identification. This book is particularly useful to engineers with an introduction to some techniques for finding solutions of certain time-invariant, time-varying, and nonlinear differential equations arising in physical systems.
