Download or read book DIREITO INFRAESTRUTURA E REGULA O written by Allan Milagres Lopes and published by Arraes Editores. This book was released on 2023-01-18 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book CyberBRICS written by Luca Belli and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book stems from the CyberBRICS project, which is the first major attempt to produce a comparative analysis of Internet regulations in the BRICS countries – namely, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The project has three main objectives: 1) to map existing regulations; 2) to identify best practices; and 3) to develop policy recommendations in the various areas that compose cybersecurity governance, with a particular focus on the strategies adopted by the BRICS countries to date. Each study covers five essential dimensions of cybersecurity: data protection, consumer protection, cybercrime, the preservation of public order, and cyberdefense. The BRICS countries were selected not only for their size and growing economic and geopolitical relevance but also because, over the next decade, projected Internet growth is expected to occur predominantly in these countries. Consequently, the technology, policy and governance arrangements defined by the BRICS countries are likely to impact not only the 3.2 billion people living in them, but also the individuals and businesses that choose to utilize increasingly popular applications and services developed in BRICS countries according to BRICS standards. Researchers, regulators, start-up innovators and other Internet stakeholders will find this book a valuable guide to the inner workings of key cyber policies in this rapidly growing region.

Book Housing and Human Settlements in a World of Change

Download or read book Housing and Human Settlements in a World of Change written by Astrid Ley and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2020-10-31 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The challenge of housing is increasingly recognised in international policy discussions in connection to the processes of migration, climate change, and economic globalisation. This book addresses the challenges of housing and emerging solutions along the lines of three major dynamics: migration, climate change, and neo-liberalism. It explores the outcomes of neo-liberal »enabling« ideas, responses to extreme climate events with different housing approaches, and how the dynamics of migration reshape the urban housing provision in a changing world. The aim is to contextualise the theoretical discourses by reflecting on the case study context of the eleven papers published in this book. With forewords by Raquel Rolnik (University Sao Paulo) and Mohammed El Sioufi (UN-Habitat).

The gig economy promises to revolutionise work as we know it, offering flexibility and independence instead of 9-to-5 drudgery. IS THIS THE FUTURE OF WORK? The gig economy promises to revolutionise work as we know it, offering flexibility and independence instead of 9-to-5 drudgery. The potential benefits are enormous: consumers enjoy the convenience and affordability of on-demand work while micro-entrepreneurs turn to online platforms in search of their next gig, task, or ride. HOW CAN WE PROTECT CONSUMERS & WORKERS WITHOUT STIFLING INNOVATION? As courts and governments around the world begin to grapple with the gig economy, Humans as a Service explores the challenges of on-demand work, and explains how we can ensure decent working conditions, protect consumers, and foster innovation. Employment law plays a central role in levelling the playing field: gigs, tasks, and rides are work - and should be regulated as such.

Book Transforming Spatial Data into Public Policies for Social Justice and Environmental Sustainability

Download or read book Transforming Spatial Data into Public Policies for Social Justice and Environmental Sustainability written by Alexandra Aragão and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-24 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental justice and social justice are well established concepts in social research. This book goes beyond the established discourse to show how Geographic Information Systems can unveil higher levels of spatial unfairness when both forms of injustice coincide in the same place. Territorial injustice is the result of the disproportionately higher exposure of vulnerable communities to pollution and environmental risks. Overlapping layers of georeferenced environmental and social information generate maps depicting territorial injustice which can be a powerful tool to facilitate social dialogue and prompt policy change. This volume brings approaches from ten Latin American countries to demonstrate how the interdisciplinarity between law and Geographic Information Systems can contribute to the development of fairer public policies, and prevent and mitigate cases of extreme injustice. The case studies presented are relevant to support the development of geolaw, and to inspire pragmatic strategies aimed both at social justice and environmental sustainability.

Book When Experiments Travel

Download or read book When Experiments Travel written by Adriana Petryna and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-04-27 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenal growth of global pharmaceutical sales and the quest for innovation are driving an unprecedented search for human test subjects, particularly in middle- and low-income countries. Our hope for medical progress increasingly depends on the willingness of the world's poor to participate in clinical drug trials. While these experiments often provide those in need with vital and previously unattainable medical resources, the outsourcing and offshoring of trials also create new problems. In this groundbreaking book, anthropologist Adriana Petryna takes us deep into the clinical trials industry as it brings together players separated by vast economic and cultural differences. Moving between corporate and scientific offices in the United States and research and public health sites in Poland and Brazil, When Experiments Travel documents the complex ways that commercial medical science, with all its benefits and risks, is being integrated into local health systems and emerging drug markets. Providing a unique perspective on globalized clinical trials, When Experiments Travel raises central questions: Are such trials exploitative or are they social goods? How are experiments controlled and how is drug safety ensured? And do these experiments help or harm public health in the countries where they are conducted? Empirically rich and theoretically innovative, the book shows that neither the language of coercion nor that of rational choice fully captures the range of situations and value systems at work in medical experiments today. When Experiments Travel challenges conventional understandings of the ethics and politics of transnational science and changes the way we think about global medicine and the new infrastructures of our lives.

Book Will to Live

  • Author : João Biehl
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2009-05-17
  • ISBN : 0691143854
  • Pages : 480 pages

Download or read book Will to Live written by João Biehl and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-05-17 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will to Live tells how Brazil, against all odds, became the first developing country to universalize access to life-saving AIDS therapies--a breakthrough made possible by an unexpected alliance of activists, government reformers, development agencies, and the pharmaceutical industry. But anthropologist João Biehl also tells why this policy, hailed as a model worldwide, has been so difficult to implement among poor Brazilians with HIV/AIDS, who are often stigmatized as noncompliant or untreatable, becoming invisible to the public. More broadly, Biehl examines the political economy of pharmaceuticals that lies behind large-scale treatment rollouts, revealing the possibilities and inequalities that come with a magic bullet approach to health care. By moving back and forth between the institutions shaping the Brazilian response to AIDS and the people affected by the disease, Biehl has created a book of unusual vividness, scope, and detail. At the core of Will to Live is a group of AIDS patients--unemployed, homeless, involved with prostitution and drugs--that established a makeshift health service. Biehl chronicled the personal lives of these people for over ten years and Torben Eskerod represents them here in more than one hundred stark photographs. Ethnography, social medicine, and art merge in this unique book, illuminating the care and agency needed to extend life amid perennial violence. Full of lessons for the future, Will to Live promises to have a lasting influence in the social sciences and in the theory and practice of global public health.
