Eighteen participants from Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Seychelles and South Africa attended the Workshop and presented papers. Fisheries library networking activities were reviewed as a basis for planning future collaboration to improve access to fisheries information and to promote information resources sharing. The summary of priority issues includes improved dissemination of African fisheries publications, full-text online fisheries journals, open source software, network focal points, the use of standard methodologies to enhance information exchange and technology for document delivery. The long-term goal of the network is to strengthen the information capacity at national fisheries institutions in Africa.--Publisher's description.

Cataloging practice described by RDA has not changed dramatically due to the changes above, but nearly every page in RDA Print was impacted by the changes, with the result that an RDA Print update packet would require nearly as many pages as the full revision. The most current RDA— the revision contains all changes to RDA up to and including the 2013 RDA Update approved by the JSC. Annually the JSC considers proposals to update, enhance and maintain RDA as a current cataloging standard. These updates can and often do change the cataloging process as described by RDA. The JSC also periodically issues changes to RDA to fix errors and to clarify meaning. These changes do not typically change cataloging practice as described by RDA. Reworded RDA— the revision includes the reworded version of RDA instructions. To improve readability and comprehension of complex instructions, RDA has been edited and reworded since its original release. The rewording was carried out by the JSC, RDA Copy Editor, and reviewed by the U.S. RDA Test Coordinating Committee.

Book excerpt: Despite the central role oceans play in the economic, environmental and social affairs of the planet's 6.7 billion inhabitants, significant gaps exist in our understanding and management of the complex processes at work from the global climate system, to the water cycle and circulation of nutrients, to changes affecting marine habitats. In addition, the vastness of the world's oceans have for far too long been perceived as impervious and indestructible to human impact. To deal with this situation, improved monitoring and observation practices, regular assessments to provide a deeper understanding of the status and trends of environmental changes, and the know-how and ability to prevent, mitigate and adapt to these changes are urgently required. The UN General Assembly in 2005 -- recommended that a regular process for the global reporting and assessment of the state of the marine environment, including its socio-economic aspects (Regular Process), be initiated. The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) were asked to serve as the lead agencies in the start-up phase that came to be known as the "Assessment of Assessments" (AoA). Under the AoA, an Expert Group have developed options and a framework for such a Regular Process, which can serve as the mechanism to keep the world's oceans and seas under continuing review.
