This book was released on 2003-12-08 with total page 1076 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Asia, the fisheries sector is important in terms of food security, livelihoods and foreign exchange earnings. However, as in many parts of the world, there are signs that capture fisheries are fully exploited or overfished. Management of fisheries in the region is often hampered by lack of information on the status of fisheries in terms of biological, social, economic, policy and governance aspects. This regional project documents an alarming decline on coastal fishery resources, based on historic research surveys in South and Southeast Asia. Socio-economic analyses and policy reviews highlight the importance of the fisheries sector but also the challenges facing it. Potential interventions to improve fisheries management in the countries are outlined and defined with environmental, socioeconomic and institutional objectives.

Book Therapeutic Advances in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Current Therapies and Future Directions

Download or read book Therapeutic Advances in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Current Therapies and Future Directions written by Giulia Roda and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-10-23 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), are chronic and progressive diseases. Long-term complications are demolition surgery and colon-rectal cancer (CRC). A treat-to-target approach aims to modify the natural course of these diseases. Targets are pre-defined therapeutic goals demonstrated to prevent end-organ disfunction and disability in the long-term period. According to the Selecting Therapeutic Targets in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (STRIDE) indications, mucosal healing (MH) and clinical remission are the main targets in IBDs. Recently, the concept of remission and evidence on new targets included histological remission and transmural healing as future new targets. It remains controversial whether achieving these targets is associated with significantly better long-term disease outcomes. In this Research Topic, we aim to systematically review current evidence and future perspectives on therapeutic targets in IBD including mucosal and transmural healing.

Book Future Directions for the Demography of Aging

Download or read book Future Directions for the Demography of Aging written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2018-07-21 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 25 years have passed since the Demography of Aging (1994) was published by the National Research Council. Future Directions for the Demography of Aging is, in many ways, the successor to that original volume. The Division of Behavioral and Social Research at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) asked the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to produce an authoritative guide to new directions in demography of aging. The papers published in this report were originally presented and discussed at a public workshop held in Washington, D.C., August 17-18, 2017. The workshop discussion made evident that major new advances had been made in the last two decades, but also that new trends and research directions have emerged that call for innovative conceptual, design, and measurement approaches. The report reviews these recent trends and also discusses future directions for research on a range of topics that are central to current research in the demography of aging. Looking back over the past two decades of demography of aging research shows remarkable advances in our understanding of the health and well-being of the older population. Equally exciting is that this report sets the stage for the next two decades of innovative researchâ€"a period of rapid growth in the older American population.

Book Bilateral Vestibulopathy Current Knowledge and Future Directions to Improve its Diagnosis and Treatment

Download or read book Bilateral Vestibulopathy Current Knowledge and Future Directions to Improve its Diagnosis and Treatment written by Bryan K. Ward and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2018-11-02 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many patients with bilateral vestibulopathy experience chronic oscillopsia due to failure of the vestibulo-ocular reflex and gait instability due to failure of vestibulo-spinal reflexes. There are numerous potential contributing factors, however, many cases remain idiopathic. The diagnosis of bilateral vestibulopathy is often delayed, placing patients at risk for unnecessary diagnostic tests and late initiation of treatment. Novel diagnostic tests offer new opportunities to characterize patterns of vestibular impairment. With the advent of new therapies, there is urgency to define and better understand patients with bilateral vestibulopathy. This collection includes topics such as an exploration of the large class of patients with bilateral vestibulopathy currently considered idiopathic, by identifying novel pathophysiologic mechanisms. Other topics include a historical perspective on early recognition, the impact of bilateral vestibular impairment on quality of life, and how advances in diagnostics are refining our understanding of what it means to have bilateral vestibulopathy. New developments in treatment strategies for patients with bilateral vestibulopathy are also featured.
