Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 38 (thesis year 1993) a total of 13,787 thesis titles from 22 Canadian and 164 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 38 reports theses submitted in 1993, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Download or read book Code Division Multiple Access CDMA written by R. Michael and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the basic aspects of Code Division Multiple Access or CDMA. It begins with an introduction to the basic ideas behind fixed and random access systems in order to demonstrate the difference between CDMA and the more widely understood TDMA, FDMA or CSMA. Secondly, a review of basic spread spectrum techniques are presented which are used in CDMA systems including direct sequence, frequency-hopping and time-hopping approaches. The basic concept of CDMA is presented, followed by the four basic principles of CDMA systems that impact their performance: interference averaging, universal frequency reuse, soft handoff, and statistical multiplexing. The focus of the discussion will then shift to applications. The most common application of CDMA currently is cellular systems. A detailed discussion on cellular voice systems based on CDMA, specifically IS-95, is presented. The capacity of such systems will be examined as well as performance enhancement techniques such as coding and spatial filtering. Also discussed are Third Generation CDMA cellular systems and how they differ from Second Generation systems. A second application of CDMA that is covered is spread spectrum packet radio networks. Finally, there is an examination of multi-user detection and interference cancellation and how such techniques impact CDMA networks. This book should be of interest and value to engineers, advanced students, and researchers in communications.
Download or read book Wireless Communications written by Savo G. Glisic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), within a given time frame a particular user is allowed to transmit within a given time slot. This technique is used in most of the second-generation digital mobile communication systems. In Europe the system is known as GSM, in USA as DAMPS and in Japan as MPT. In Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) every user is using a distinct code so that it can occupy the same frequency bandwidth at the same time with other users and still can be separated on the basis of low correlation between the codes. These systems like IS-95 in the USA are also developed and standardized within the second generation of the mobile communication systems. CDMA systems within a cellular network can provide higher capacity and for this reason they become more and more attractive. At this moment it seems that both TDMA and CDMA remain viable candidates for application in future systems. Wireless Communications: TDMA versus CDMA provides enough information for correct understanding of the arguments in favour of one or other multiple access technique. The final decision about which of the two techniques should be employed will depend not only on technical arguments but also on the amount of new investments needed and compatibility with previous systems and their infrastructures. Wireless Communications: TDMA versus CDMA comprises a collection of specially written contributions from the most prominent specialists in wireless communications in the world today and presents the major, up to date, issues in this field. The material is grouped into four chapters: Communication theory, covering coding and modulation, Wireless communications, Antenna & Propagation and Advanced Systems & Technology. The book describes clearly the issues and presents the information in such a way that informed decisions about third generation wireless systems can be taken. It is essential reading for all researchers, engineers and managers working in the field of Wireless Communications.

Book excerpt: Presenting a technology that adapts radio communication to computational data information processing networks, first reviews the concepts of modern mobile communication and the user requirements and operational environment that influence the design of mobile systems. Then focuses on mobility issues for a decentralized network topology and the effects of spread spectrum modulation on radios used in packet-switched networks. Shows how connecting radio terminals using packet switching provides a highly flexible and efficient solution for mobile users. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
Download or read book Information Theory written by Marcelo S. Alencar and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2014-11-30 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last decade we have witnessed rapid developments of computer networks and Internet technologies along with dramatic improvements in the processing power of personal computers. These developments make Interactive Distance Education a reality. By designing and deploying distributed and collaborative applications running on computers disseminated over the Internet, distance educators can reach remote learners, overcoming the time and distance constraints. Besides the necessary theoretical base provided by lectures and written materials, hands-on experience provided by physical laboratories is a vital part for engineering education. It helps engineering students become effective professionals. Such instruction not only provides the students with the knowledge of the physical equipment but also adds the important dimension of group work and collaboration. However, laboratories are expensive to setup, to maintain and provide long hours of daily staffing. Due to budget limitations, many universities and colleges can provide only limited access to such physical equipment. Therefore, it is imperative to enable remote access to a physical laboratory, either as part of an on-site or distance learning course.

Download or read book Wireless Personal Communications written by Jeffrey H. Reed and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wireless industry is growing at a phenomenal rate. Cellular subscribers are increasing at a rate of 45% per year, the market for wireless local loop service is growing at a rate of 42%, and the wireless local area network market is growing at a rate of 61 %. This growth and potential for future growth has motivated companies to commit $20 billion in obtaining 90 MHz of PCS spectrum during the recent FCC auctions in the United States. Obviously spectrum is a costly, but critical, resource. Efficient utilization of this resource is essential for profitable wireless service. To meet this challenge, researchers in wireless communications are tenaciously developing more spectrally efficient modulation techniques, planning tools for efficient communication system layout, and digital signal processing techniques for more robust communications. The papers and lectures presented in this book were originally given at the Sixth Annual Virginia Tech Symposium on Wireless Personal Communications and cover a broad range of topics in wireless communications. The majority of the papers are relevant to creating higher capacity (spectrally efficient) systems with greater coverage. Topics include adaptive antenna array measurements and algorithm comparisons, Cellular Digital Packet Data deployment guidelines, speech coding techniques, wireless system design methodology, and propagation measurements in hostile or previously unexplored channels.
