Book Ion and Cluster Ion Spectroscopy and Structure

Download or read book Ion and Cluster Ion Spectroscopy and Structure written by J. P. Maier and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1989 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid and impressive advances have been made in recent years in the spectroscopy and structure of ion and ionic clusters. This new multi-author volume provides an up-to-date and in-depth coverage of the progress made, the present knowledge, and the state-of-the art of the field. The first chapter deals with the developments and application of the Coulomb explosion technique for the determination of the geometric structure of polyatomic cations. This is followed by a review of the structural information obtained by microwave techniques on cations and of their radioastronomical studies. Of the next three chapters, two deal with theoretical approaches to predict spectroscopic data on ions, and the third deals with the experimental measurements using infrared laser methods. The next chapter covers progress in the area of high resolution photodetachment studies on anions using laser-ion beam methods. The techniques and results described in the following chapter are concerned with the investigations of open-shell cations by means of their electronic transitions. The latter chapters focus on the study of ionic clusters and complexes.

Download or read book N Nitrogen written by Reinhard Haubold and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume deals with binary nitrogen-hydrogen compounds having two, three, or more nitrogen atoms (with the exception of hydrazine) and with compounds composed of nitrogen, hydrogen, and noble gases. The important species containing two nitrogen atoms, N2H, N2H+, N2H2, and N2H3 are described in the first part of this volume. Next, chains and cycles consisting of three nitrogen atoms are covered. Among them hydrogen azide or hydrozoic acid, HN3, is the most extensively studied nitrogen-hydrogen compound described in this volume. With increasing number of nitrogen atoms, the thermochmical stability declines. There is, however, a considerable amount of information on molecules with up to nine linked nitrogen atoms. Several of these binary nitrogen-hydrogen compounds could only be isolated in the form of organic derivatives. In that case, data available for the organic derivatives were included if they were characteristic for the particular unsubstituted N-H parent compound.

Book Laser rf Spectroscopic Techniques in Fast Ion Beams

Download or read book Laser rf Spectroscopic Techniques in Fast Ion Beams written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perturbation free environment and kinematically compressed velocity distribution of ion beams are ideal for high precision spectroscopic measurements using laser techniques. The limitations in the optical techniques are explored and the evolution to laser-rf double resonance techniques is described. Using the double resonance technique a 150-fold improvement in precision is achieved. Problems in applying the double resonance technique are encountered at low rf frequencies. A novel method based upon stimulated resonance Raman spectroscopy is described which circumvents these problems. 5 figs.

Book Laser spectroscopy IX

Download or read book Laser spectroscopy IX written by Michael Feld and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laser Spectroscopy IX documents the proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on Laser Spectroscopy, held in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, June 18-23, 1989. The scientific program consisted of oral and poster presentations. There were 52 invited talks organized into 14 topical sessions, some with panel discussions. About 60 additional invited contributions were presented in three evening poster sessions. Also included were 15 post deadline oral and poster presentations. These proceedings contain summaries of essentially all of these contributions. The contributions made by researchers at the conference are organized into 14 parts. Part I focuses on laser cooling. Part II presents studies on laser spectroscopy. Part III includes papers on cavity Q.E.D. Parts IV, V, and VI examine noise and coherence, quantum size effects, and surface spectroscopy, respectively. Part VII deals with laser light sources. Part VIII includes papers on trapped ion spectroscopy. Part IX covers ultrafast spectroscopy while Part X takes up fundamental measurements, including those of positronium, the Rydberg constant, and lead and thallium isotopes. Parts XI-XIV cover, respectively, molecular spectroscopy and dynamics, applications in radiation forces, highly excited states and dynamics, and laser spectroscopy for biomedicine.

Book Clusters of Atoms and Molecules II

Download or read book Clusters of Atoms and Molecules II written by Hellmut Haberland and published by Springer. This book was released on 1994-08-26 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cluster science studies the transition from atomic, and molecular physics or chemistry to the science and technology of condensed matter. Two main topics from this large field will be emphasized in this second volume of Atomic and Molecular Clusters. After an Introduction, Chap. 2 deals mainly with molecular clusters, how they react to positive or negative charges (Sect. 2.1 to 2.5), how they decompose and how they can be charged (Sect. 2.6 and 2.7), and how one can do chemistry with them (2.8 and 2.9). Clusters in contact with a macroscopic medium are treated in Chap. 3. It is from this domain that one can expect possible new applications of cluster science. The optical spectra of silver clusters in a dielectric medium are discussed in Sect. 3.1. Their properties have since long been used unknowingly to stain glass windows. Large clusters floating in an ambient pressure gas are called aerosols (Sect. 3.2). Their properties can be used to monitor air pollution. Development of a photographic film is due to supported silver clusters in a liquid environment (Sect. 3.3). Large semiconductor clusters, also called "quantum dots", have novel optical and electronic properties (Sect. 3.4). The optical properties of large clusters, in general, are reviewed in Sect. 3.5, and properties of clusters supported on clean surfaces are discussed in Sect. 3.6.
