It is with the desire to provide such a text that this book is offered to the teachers and students of Electrical Engineering. In the author's opinion, a course in the design of electric machinery is out of place in the undergraduate curriculum. A student of electrical engineering should, however, acquire a thorough knowledge of the theory of such machines and of the basic principles upon which their design depends. Only to this extent, therefore, is the matter of design gone into in this book.
