Book The Best Way to Bond Orthodontic Brackets to Composite Restoration

Download or read book The Best Way to Bond Orthodontic Brackets to Composite Restoration written by Hasan Sabah and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-12-23 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Direct bonding of orthodontic attachment has removed some of the esthetic concerns many adults previously had when considering orthodontic therapy. With an increase in adult treatment comes the challenge of direct bonding to non-enamel surface, such as composite restoration. The big problem that faces orthodontist is debonding of the brackets specially in cases when it fixed on restoration like composite. Therefore a roughened surface will need in order to bond the adhesive composite material to the substrate composite restoration, this roughness will lead to distraction, weaken and loss of integrity of the composite restoration. This study was designed to evaluate the bonding strength of three different generations of adhesive bonding and which one is better to use for bonding the orthodontic bracket to composite restoration, without doing any roughness on composite restoration surface and compare between them which one have better bonding strength with composite restoration.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolution of orthodontic materials in the past 5 decades has been a unique progress curve characterized by periods of intense activity with many developments followed by long quiescent intervals. An example of the delay in adopting the advances in dentistry might well be illustrated by the acid-etching technique, which was introduced in the mid 1950s1 and became universally accepted in the 1960s. It took more than a decade for this practice to become standard procedure in orthodontics on a large scale. Infact, orthodontic bonding has advanced more in last 10 years than previous 25. In the past decade, we have witnessed unprecedented progress in bonding to enamel with various materials techniques and auxiliaries involving glass ionomer bonding, self-etching primers, and new, powerful light-curing sources, along with self-ligating brackets and a different treatment concept, the Invisalign technique.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In dentistry, Bonding is a term conventionally used to describe the use of an adhesive or cement, to hold a covering, to a stained or damaged tooth or to secure Orthodontic appliances to the teeth. The evolution of orthodontic materials in the past five decades has been a unique progress curve, characterized by periods of intense activity, with many developments, followed by long quiescent intervals. Even though acid etch technique was introduced in the mid 1950s, it took more than a decade for this practice to become a standard procedure in orthodontics on a large scale. In fact, orthodontic bonding has advanced more in the last ten years than in the last quarter of the century, like unprecedented progress with materials and technique such as glass ionomer bonding, self etching primers, new powerful light curing sources etc. The rapid pace of advancement in the field continues to challenge the clinicians to stay abreast in the race with technology. This speedy advancement in the material science has also altered the commercial life of the materials, as new material, introduced a few years ago, soon becomes obsolete. This is a possible outcome of a lack of strenuous quality control, research deficiencies and a product of aggressive marketing strategy by the commercial product companies Thus an evidence based approach must extend to orthodontic bonding materials with emphasis on the mechanical, physical and biological properties and the potential alterations induced by intra oral aging and their implications in orthodontic mechanotherapy.
