Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Unpolitical

    Book Details:
  • Author : Massimo Cacciari

Download or read book The Unpolitical written by Massimo Cacciari and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2009-08-25 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Massimo Cacciari is one of the leading public intellectuals in today's Italy, both as an outstanding philosopher and political thinker and as now three times (and currently) the mayor of Venice. This collection of essays on political topics provides the best introduction in English to his thought to date. The political focus does not, however, prevent these essays from being an introduction to the full range of Cacciari's thought. The present collection includes chapters on Hofmannstahl, Lukács, Benjamin, Nietzsche, Weber, Derrida, Schmitt, Canetti, and Aeschylus. Written between 1978 and 2006, these essays engagingly address the most hidden tradition in European political thought: the Unpolitical. Far from being a refusal of politics, the Unpolitical represents a merciless critique of political reason and a way out of the now impracticable consolations of utopia and harmonious community. Drawing freely from philosophy and literature, The Unpolitical represents a powerful contribution to contemporary political theory. A lucid and engaging Introduction by Alessandro Carrera sets these essays in the context of Cacciari's work generally and in the broadest context of its historical and geographical backdrop.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief survey of Professor Karl LOwith's analysis of the modem histori cal consciousness is the outgrowth of a year's study at the University of Heidelberg while Professor L6with was still an active member of the faculty. An early version, in the form of a dissertation, was submitted to the History Department of Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. Numerous friends and colleagues have helped me at various stages of this work and I am indebted to them even though I cannot name them all indi vidually. However special thanks must be accorded to Professor W. J. Bos senbrook of Wayne State University for introducing me to the entire prob lem of anti-historicism and to Professor LOwith's work. I am also greatly indebted to Professor John Barlow of Indiana University for his patient assistance with the translations, however the final responsibility for all renditions rests, of course, solely with the author.

Book ETHICS AND CORPOREITY FROM A PHENOMENOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

This book was released on 2021-12-21 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The approach to the theme of the body within the framework of phenomenology is developed in 20th century France. Despite the evident Cartesianism, it is there that the principles of a phenomenology of the body are configured, in the confluence between the phenomenological tradition and the philosophy of existence. The systematic development of the phenomenology of the body, which takes centered reflection on the corporeal existence and the incarnated subject, corresponds, among others, to Gabriel Marcel, Jean-Paul Sartre, Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Bernhard Waldenfels. The phenomenology of the body opens a new horizon to understand the corporeal dimension of human existence and offers a new philosophical view of the body, while the body is not only an observable reality as an object, but it is a dimension of the being itself, as, according to Merleau-Ponty, from the phenomenology of “corporeal existence”, the body is the “medium” of our “being-in-the-world”. That is precisely why it can be radically said that “being-in-the-world” (Heidegger) is primarily a “corporal-being-in-the-world" (Waldenfels). This implies “belonging to the world”, being “implicated” in the world through the body and, also, that the body opens a subject to the world. The phenomenology of the body sought to restore the unity of human existence. Husserl, Scheler, Marcel, Merleau-Ponty, Sartre, Waldenfels, among others, break with the modern mechanistic conception of the body and resignify subjectivity and objectivity, in open opposition to the dualistic tradition. The phenomenology of corporeal existence makes the body our way-to-be-in-the-world. The body not only ceases to be an object, but also a passive structure, receiving a reality configured by the confines of res cogitans. Based on Husserl, a theory of the phenomenological body is developed, which will reverse the subordinate role that the body had in Cartesian thought. Merleau-Ponty, who t

Download or read book On Vulnerability written by Miquel Seguró Mendlewicz and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2024-01-26 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We tend to understand vulnerability in one of two ways: (1) the measure of everything that happens to us, or (2) that it legitimizes the current discourses and the halo of authority that fashion grants. However, we should think of vulnerability as being affectable both to and by others. In On Vulnerability: A Philosophical Anthropology Miquel Seguró Mendlewicz projects vulnerability as a condition of human life and the central concept to understand our existential position in the world. The philosophical journey is structured around two fundamental areas: the existential reality of vulnerability (its pathos) and the decision to integrate it and live it as an ethical and political reality (its ethos). Using the work of René Descartes, whose philosophy the author presents as conducive to meditating on vulnerability, Seguró Mendlewicz proposes a philosophical reflection that projects vulnerability as a condition of human life in all its magnitudes. Therefore, this book explores all facets of vulnerability, the real impact of what being vulnerable means, and the dangers implied when something becomes trendy.

Download or read book Il cosmo e le sfide della storia written by Karl Löwith and published by Donzelli Editore. This book was released on 2023-02-21T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book IL SOGNATORE DEL MONDO VERO

Download or read book IL SOGNATORE DEL MONDO VERO written by Alessio Arzuffi and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-12-05 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
