In this context, the articles in the book draw attention to the different aspects of finance and econometrics such as outlined banking sector studies, capital market analysis and case studies, the impact of the use of social media for financial purposes on financial literacy, discussion of the performance evaluation of Type A mutual funds in Turkey. The U-shape hypothesis validity in Turkey, validity of the hypothesis of unemployment hysteria in selected OECD countries. Comprising Petronas’ largest refinery facility and numerous ancillary and supporting industrial areas, it is pegged to diversify Malaysia’s petrochemical industry and reap the benefits of the area’s fortunate position on international maritime trade routes. While initial responses to the PIPC development were of concern for Singapore’s oil and gas business, the island-nation’s long reputation and position in the industry means that the PIPC has some steep learning curves to traverse before coming on par with its southerly neighbour. However, the PIPC is likely to provide a solution to Singapore’s limitations in terms of costly services and limited land space. It may also rejuvenate an industry now seen by some SMEs to be somewhat stagnant. While there are myriad global trends that may inhibit the complete success of the PIPC, it seems to be well placed to provide economic spillover benefits for Johor and Malaysia. Even if it does not become a top regional player, it will be able to meet local demands for Euro 5 quality products. The PIPC received a boost with Saudi Aramco’s commitment to invest in the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project. More investments may come on board when the refinery begins operations in 2019. A full assessment of PIPC’s success or failure can be conducted once other announced developments are completed and full operations begin.

Book excerpt: The organizational economics paradigm is useful for a research tool in order to construct a concrete theory of entrepreneur as a human agent of change. Under this theoretical framework, chief functions of entrepreneurial activity must be defined. Hébert and Link (1988) decomposes functions of entrepreneur with reference to different definitions in the history of economic theory. They gather together twelve functions under two main categories. First, they divide entrepreneurial functions as static and dynamic. Thereby, they identify each function with a definition and historical classification as an overview of distinct intellectual attempts by economists in the relevant literature. We conduct structural and contextual analysis to entegrate functionalist approach of organizational economics to the theory of entrepreneur. Book excerpt: Based on an award-winning thesis, this volume is a pioneering study of musical theatre and popular culture and its relation to the production of identity in Lebanon in the second half of the twentieth century. In the aftermath of the departure of the French from Lebanon and the civil violence of 1958, the Rahbani brothers (Asi and Mansour) staged a series of folkloric musical theatrical extravaganzas at the annual Ba‘labakk festival which highlighted the talents of Asi’s wife, the Lebanese diva Fairouz, arguably the most famous living Arab singer. The inclusion of these folkloric vignettes into the festival’s otherwise European dominated cultural agenda created a powerful nation-building combination of what Partha Chatterjee calls the ‘appropriation of the popular’ and the ‘classicization of tradition.’ The Rahbani project coincides with the confluence of increasing internal and external migration in Lebanon, as well as with the rapid development of mass media technology, of which the Ba'labakk festival can be seen as an extension. Employing theories of nationalism, modernity, globalism and locality, this book shows that these factors combined to give the project a potent identity-forming power. Popular Culture and Nationalism in Lebanon is the first study of Fairouz and the Rahbani family in English and will appeal to students and researchers in the field of Middle East studies, Popular culture and musical theatre.

Book excerpt: Abstract Due to precision, flexibility, simplicity in construction, easy control, higher speed and lower energy consumptions, servo presses have recently become popular in metal forming applications. Servo press technology combines the advantages of hydraulic and conventional mechanical presses without their drawbacks. This study presents design, construction and demonstration of a servo crank press system for metal forming operations. The research involves kinematics and motion optimization, dynamic modeling, structural design and analysis, servo motor selection, automation and control, and operational performances of the servo press. The press used in this work has a load capacity of 50 ton and stroke capacity of 200 mm. Firstly, optimized trajectories of ram scenarios are generated. Then dynamic modeling using Lagrange approach is presented. Next structural model is constructed, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of press parts are performed within safety limits. A servo motor with a reduction unit is selected based on dynamic model. After that a new automation system is developed, and Cascade Feed-Forward (CasFF) control is applied. Moreover, four motion scenarios (crank, dwell, link, and soft motion) are employed for the performance assessment of press. Finally, the dynamic model is verified by the experimental results. The research study is carried out under support and grant of an industrial project, aiming to provide know-how to industry and researchers.
