Como actores de una una institución construimos la cotidianeidad, tenemos diferentes percepciones de los hechos, nos relacionamos de modo distinto frente a la ley, desarrollamos diversas conductas para afrontar un conflicto. Dicho de otro modo, "vivir es negociar", no importa el sexo, edad, profesión, los abogados con sus clientes, los médicos con sus pacientes, los padres con sus hijos, los cónyuges entre sí, los docentes con sus alumnos, los empresarios con otros empresarios, etc. La negociación es un proceso de resolución de conflictos, no adversarial, donde no se acude a la fuerza, basta con la comunicación clara, de mutua influencia de las relaciones de poder y obtención de un acuerdo. Lamentablemente, la cultura del diálogo no es una práctica muy común en sociedades donde, día a día, advertimos con más fuerza, como la violencia comienza a tornarse como algo natural, y ya no nos sorprenden las noticias que nos brindan los medios periodísticos, aceptamos que son las reglas de juego. En el presente libro, pretendemos abordar la negociación como un proceso sistémico, marcado por varias etapas o fases sucesivas, que se enlazan, no lineal, flexible y estratégico. El enfoque estratégico, parte del análisis de la situación de la otra parte, la obtención de la información, la determinación de la mejor alternativa posible al acuerdo negociado, aplicación de tácticas adecuadas para la obtención del resultado, habilidades personales, la detección de prácticas engañosas y los medios disponibles para el desarrollo del proceso negociador. Por último, desde este lugar se pretende que Usted como futuro profesional, conozca que existen otras formas de resolución de conflictos, que puede ayudar a disminuir los niveles de intensidad, complejidad y violencia en la convivencia diaria con nuestros familiares, amigos, socios y simplemente vecinos, donde resolver el problema no significa que uno gane y otro pierda, sino que ambos salgan satisfechos con la resolución que se adopte; y sean protagonistas de ella. Sólo así podremos afirmar, que ante los tiempos actuales de la globalización, marcadas por las crisis económicas, sociales, culturales, estaremos en condiciones de sostener la elección de un camino correcto; promover la "Cultura del acuerdo", que nos permita lograr resultados eficientes, contemplen los intereses comunes de las partes; y que construyan una base sólida de confianza entre los actores, y resuelvan en forma pacífica los conflictos generados.

Book excerpt: Payments for Environmental Services (PES) are being considered worldwide with great interest and expectation. Proposals to create agreements in which beneficiaries of environmental services pay landowners directly for the provision or protection of these services are innovative and promising. But what real PES experiences are actually out there? This work assesses a range of PES or PES-type experiences in one country, Bolivia, in the fields of carbon sequestration, protection of watershed services, biodiversity and aesthetic landscape values. The report concludes that while none of the generally young initiatives adhere fully to the principle of PES as developed in the theoretical literature, many experiment with some of the relevant PES mechanisms. Protection of watersheds and landscape values are the most common types, though the implementing intermediaries often have underlying biodiversity-protection goals. Main obstacles to PES implementation include ideological resistance against the PES concept, the difficulty of building trust between buyers and sellers, and limited willingness to pay on behalf of service users. During their relatively short lifetime, basically all initiatives had been successful in making service sellers (PES recipients) better off in economic terms, while the effectiveness in achieving environmental objectives and securing positive social impacts so far remained more variable. In some cases, redesigning these initiatives to bring them closer to the full PES principles could also enable them to more effectively achieve positive environmental and livelihood outcomes.
