The annual student conference opens up opportunities for dialogue across cultures and traditions and challenges the status quo of academic philosophy’s focus on Western thought alone, as exhibited in this book. Doing so has both aesthetic and political implications. In one way, to the extent that comparative philosophy outlines new possibilities for how the world can be distributed—how things can be thought of in their spatiotemporal embodiments—it is involved in artistic practice, the development of an aesthetic, a way of making sense of the sensible. In another way, to the extent that it demonstrates the equality of marginalized voices in its distribution and redistribution of sensibility, comparative philosophy takes on a political dimension. The chapters within point to this politico-aesthetic aspect of comparative philosophy and, indeed, of philosophy in general.

About thirteen years later, the sense and the direction of the YIS project envisaged in the first volume’s introduction - together with the difficulties to pursue it - are still alive and valid. Thus, to both celebrate the milestone of the tenth issue and to plan the future, we asked to some colleagues, almost all contributors of previous volumes, to discuss what idiographic science means today, and what can mean tomorrow. Further, it presents a detailed, region-wise description of indentured women migrants. The regions covered in this book are Asia- Pacific (countries covered are Fiji, Burma and Nepal); Africa (countries covered are South Africa, Mauritius and Reunion Island); and the Caribbean (countries covered are Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago). In addition, one full section of the book is devoted to the theoretical frameworks that touch upon gender performativity, normative misogyny, Bahadur's Coolie Women, literary representations and resistance movements.
