Download or read book Diffractive Dijet Production in bar p p Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on a study of diffractive dijet production in {bar p}p collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron {bar p}p collider. A data sample from 310 pb−1 of integrated luminosity collected by triggering on a high transverse energy jet, E{sub T}{sup jet}, in coincidence with a recoil antiproton detected in a Roman pot spectrometer is used to measure the ratio of single-diffractive to inclusive-dijet event rates as a function of x{sup {bar p}} of the interacting parton in the antiproton, the Bjorken-x, x{sub Bj}{sup {bar p}}, and a Q2 ≈ (E{sub T}{sup jet})2 in the ranges 10−3 x{sub Bj}{sup {bar p}}

Book Dijet Angular Distributions in Proton Proton Collisions

Download or read book Dijet Angular Distributions in Proton Proton Collisions written by Nele Boelaert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-26 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is based on the first data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Its theme can be described as the classical Rutherford scattering experiment adapted to the LHC: measurement of scattering angles to search for new physics and substructure. At the LHC, colliding quarks and gluons exit the proton collisions as collimated particle showers, or jets. The thesis presents studies of the scattering angles of these jets. It includes a phenomenological study at the LHC design energy of 14 TeV, where a model of so-called large extra dimensions is used as a benchmark process for the sensitivity to new physics. The experimental result is the first measurement, made in 2010, by ATLAS, operating at the LHC start-up energy of 7 TeV. The result is compatible with the Standard Model and demonstrates how well the physics and the apparatus are understood. The first data is a tiny fraction of what will be accumulated in the coming years, and this study has set the stage for performing these measurements with confidence as the LHC accumulates luminosity and increases its energy, thereby probing smaller length scales.

Book Observation of Exclusive Dijet Production at the Fermilab Tevatron P pbar Collider

Download or read book Observation of Exclusive Dijet Production at the Fermilab Tevatron P pbar Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present the first observation and cross section measurement of exclusive dijet production in {bar p}p interactions, {bar p}p → {bar p} + dijet + p. Using a data sample of 310 pb−1 collected by the Run II Collider Detector at Fermilab at √s = 1.96 TeV, exclusive cross sections for events with two jets of transverse energy E{sub T}{sup jet} ≥ 10 GeV have been measured as a function of minimum E{sub T}{sup jet}. The exclusive signal is extracted from fits to data distributions based on Monte Carlo simulations of expected dijet signal and background shapes. The simulated background distribution shapes are checked in a study of a largely independent data sample of 200 pb−1 of b-tagged jet events, where exclusive dijet production is expected to be suppressed by the J{sub z} = 0 total angular momentum selection rule. Results obtained are compared with theoretical expectations, and implications for exclusive Higgs boson production at the pp Large Hadron Collider at √s = 14 TeV are discussed.

Book Measurement of the t bar t Production Cross Section in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of the t bar t Production Cross Section in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The top-quark pair production cross section is measured in final states with one electron or muon and one hadronically decaying [tau] lepton from the process $t\bar{t}$ to (l[nu]l) ([tau][nu][tau]) $b\bar{b}$, where l = e, [mu]. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb-1 collected with the CMS detector in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ =8 TeV. The measured cross section [sigma]$t\bar{t}$ = 257 ± 3 (stat) ± 24 (syst) ± 7 (lumi) pb, assuming a top-quark mass of 172.5 GeV, is consistent with the standard model prediction.

Book Measurement of the Jet Mass in Highly Boosted T tbar Events from Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of the Jet Mass in Highly Boosted T tbar Events from Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first measurement of the jet mass m[jet] of top quark jets produced in t t-bar events from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV is reported for the jet with the largest transverse momentum pt in highly boosted hadronic top quark decays. The data sample, collected with the CMS detector, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. The measurement is performed in the lepton+jets channel in which the products of the semileptonic decay t to bW with W to l nu where l is an electron or muon, are used to select t t-bar events with large Lorentz boosts. The products of the fully hadronic decay t to bW with W to q q'-bar are reconstructed using a single Cambridge-Aachen jet with distance parameter R=1.2, and pt>400 GeV. The t t-bar cross section as a function of m[jet] is unfolded at the particle level and is used to test the modelling of highly boosted top quark production. The peak position of the m[jet] distribution is sensitive to the top quark mass m[t], and the data are used to extract a value of m[t] to assess this sensitivity.

Book excerpt: The authors report on a new measurement of the rapidity dependence of the inclusive jet production cross section in p[bar p] collisions at[radical]s= 1:8 TeV using 92 pb[sup[minus]1] of data collected by the DO detector at the Tevatron collider. The differential cross sections, d[sup 2][sigma]/dE[sub T]d[eta], are presented as a function of jet transverse energy (E[sub T]) in five pseudorapidity ([eta]) intervals, up to[vert-bar][eta][vert-bar]= 3, significantly extending previous measurements beyond[vert-bar][eta][vert-bar]= 0.7. They also present recent results on the ratio of central ([vert-bar][eta][vert-bar]

Book High Mass Exclusive Diffractive Dijet Production in mathbf p bar p Collisions at mathbf sqrt s

Download or read book High Mass Exclusive Diffractive Dijet Production in mathbf p bar p Collisions at mathbf sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present evidence for diffractive exclusive dijet production with an invariant dijet mass greater than 100 GeV in data collected with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A discriminant based on calorimeter information is used to measure a significant number of events with little energy (typically less than 10 GeV) outside the dijet system, consistent with the diffractive exclusive dijet production topology. The probability for these events to be explained by other dijet production processes is 2 x 10−5, corresponding to a 4.1 standard deviation significance.

Book Measurement of Dijet Azimuthal Decorrelation in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of Dijet Azimuthal Decorrelation in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A measurement of the decorrelation of azimuthal angles between the two jets with the largest transverse momenta is presented for seven regions of leading jet transverse momentum up to 2.2 TeV. The analysis is based on the proton-proton collision data collected with the CMS experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb$^{-1}$. The dijet azimuthal decorrelation is caused by the radiation of additional jets and probes the dynamics of multijet production. The results are compared to fixed-order predictions of perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD), and to simulations using Monte Carlo event generators that include parton showers, hadronization, and multiparton interactions. Event generators with only two outgoing high transverse momentum partons fail to describe the measurement, even when supplemented with next-to-leading-order QCD corrections and parton showers. Much better agreement is achieved when at least three outgoing partons are complemented through either next-to-leading-order predictions or parton showers. This observation emphasizes the need to improve predictions for multijet production.

Book Measurement of the T T bar Production Cross Section in Pp Collisions at 7 TeV in Lepton Jets Events Using B quark Jet Identification

Download or read book Measurement of the T T bar Production Cross Section in Pp Collisions at 7 TeV in Lepton Jets Events Using B quark Jet Identification written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new measurement of the inclusive production cross section for pp to t t-bar is performed at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 inverse picobarns, and is based on the final state with one isolated, high transverse momentum muon or electron, missing transverse energy, and hadronic jets. The ttbar content of the selected events is enhanced by requiring the presence of at least one jet consistent with b-quark hadronization. The measured cross section is 150 +/- 9 (stat.) +/- 17 syst.) +/- 6 (lumi.) pb and is in agreement with higher-order QCD calculations. The combination of this measurement with a previous CMS result based on dileptons gives 154 +/- 17 (stat.+syst.) +/- 6 (lumi.) pb.

Book Study of Jets Production Association with a Z Boson in Pp Collision at 7 and 8 TeV with the CMS Detector

Download or read book Study of Jets Production Association with a Z Boson in Pp Collision at 7 and 8 TeV with the CMS Detector written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study presents the measurement of the rapidity distributions in events containing a Z boson and a jet in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 5 fb-11, recorded by the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The measured angular distributions are compared with the predictions from next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations and two generator programs that combine tree-level matrix element calculations with parton showers. We also present a measurement of jet production rates in association with a Z boson using data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and with an integrated luminosity of 19.8 fb-1. This measurement provides a stringent test of perturbative QCD calculations, and the result is compared with predictions from theoretical calculations.

Book Dijet Production in Hadron Collisions at Fermilab

Download or read book Dijet Production in Hadron Collisions at Fermilab written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have studied dijet final states produced in hard hadron collisions at Fermilab using the E-609 calorimetric detector. Using dijet events produced in .pi.−p, .pi.p and pp collisions at 200 GeV, we have made a detailed search for the higher-twist process proposed by Berger and Brodsky. In this process, the entire energy at the incident pion goes into dijet production, leaving an event with no forward beam jet and satisfying two-body kinematics.
