Book excerpt: Rapidly evolving digital technologies are reciprocally linked to the way people think, learn, generate knowledge, create, communicate, and collaborate in the digital age. These media-communicative and related sociocultural changes must be acknowledged in the educational context. The aim of the present study is, from a transnational perspective, to investigate experts’ anticipated L1 education futures in 2030 and teachers’ literacies deemed necessary in this context. The research aims are addressed through an exploratory sequential mixed methods research design reflected in the application of a three-round modified Delphi study. The panel is drawn from individuals who are considered experts at the intersection of (L1) education and digitalisation and are selected on their theoretical or applied expertise and their interest in the issue under investigation. It becomes clear that the experts emphasised the need for transformations regarding traditional structures, practices, and processes of teaching and learning by 2030, specifically given contemporary practices and forms of learning, thinking, and working in the digital age.

It involved investment in computers and software, school-based infrastructure, leadership, professional development and digital resources across all Australian education systems and sectors. The objective of DER was to create ubiquitous access to the tools necessary for students to take advantage of new technologies. entering into a National Partnership Agreement, the Australian Government committed to working with all State and Territory governments and the Catholic and independent sectors to achieve the following outcomes : Deliver sustained and meaningful change in the way teaching and learning is conducted in Australian secondary schools, focusing on four strands of change (infrastructure, leadership, teacher capability and learning resources). Provide every student in Years 912 with access to technology required for contemporary learning and to Create the foundations for effective delivery of an online, nationally consistent curriculum as well as providing stimulating and challenging learning resources for students. dandolopartners was commissioned to undertake this mid-program review, following the achievement of the one to one (1:1) computer to student ratio target under the National Secondary School Computer Fund (NSSCF), the major component of the DER, and prior to the completion of the DER National Partnership Agreement. This review sought to answer the following fundamental question : Has the DER been a catalyst for positive change that establishes the foundations for improved use of ICT in education? At a more specific level, the objectives of the review are to : assess the impact of the DER and its achievements to date; record stakeholder views on the extent to which the DER is on track to meet its objectives; and identify perspectives on current and future trends in educational technology, as well insight from key stakeholders on how to continue to improve the integration of technology into teaching and learning. This includes changes in the technology and education landscape since the DER's inception that have implications for the future use of technology in schools and for different groups of students, including those in remote areas and those from low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds. This review involved analysis of reports provided by education authorities; interviews, workshops and focus groups with more than 200 stakeholders; and a literature review. The absence of comparable quantitative research was a significant limitation of the review, requiring a heavy reliance on qualitative views from stakeholders. p4, ed]
