Numerical algorithms were devised to solve the finite difference representations of the simplified conservation equations within the limits of present day digital computers. Extensive linear stability analysis was performed to assure the validity and stability of the numerical solutions. The stratified flow model assumes two distinct layers, an upper thermal layer and a lower ambient layer either stagnant or flowing. The nonstratified model is useful for cases of large bodies of water where there is severe mixing and no appreciable stratification. In both models, the boundaries of the computational grid are completely general and are able to simulate arbitrary shorelines and discharge configurations. (Author).
