Book excerpt: How To Dig A Well: Reach Water Self-Sufficiency While Homesteading With Step-by-Step Guide On Well Drilling Beneath the ground are several natural resources you can use to sustain a comfortable life. One of the most popular uses of deriving resources from underground is to obtain ground water for all your water requirements for the home and property. Drilling a well to source water is all that you need to do to avail this independent flow of water to your house, farm, backyard or garden. Water is a foundation for many things. Not only is it needed so that people can rehydrate, but is also critical for sanitation and clean clothing and power in some situations. And a very important element when you are practicing homesteading. Therefore, making sure that the new infrastructure in a given area has access to this liquid in running form is something that needs to be emphasized. The infrastructure must be able to support the liquid in various ways in order for the effort to be a successful one in nature. People use water in a few basic ways that are absolutely critical to survival and quality of life. Without the presence of this liquid in a ready and viable form, places that have been hit by a disaster situation will be rendered helpless and will quickly break down. The flow of liquid is the best way to ensure a healthy and viable population that will have stating power in the coming months. Therefore, building crews need to establish a system of pipes and tubes that run underground throughout an area, so that the clean water can be dispensed and accessed without any kind of issue arising. Additionally, they will need to look for natural aquifers that they can utilize to achieve the end result. All of these factors demonstrate how a supply of water can make or break a location. Establishing a viable flow of it will allow for the best overall chance of success in gardening to happen. And this book captures the need to have a well in your garden for ample supply of water. Book Digging For Water

  • Publisher : BookLocker.com, Inc.
  • Release : 2024-06-05
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 289 pages

Download or read book Digging For Water written by Alan Brayne and published by BookLocker.com, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-06-05 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book of poems, all of which were written in 2023/4, in a variety of styles and approaches. All of them are short (no more than one page). The content is varied, but perhaps the best way to describe their overall style or flavour might be to say that they concern themselves with many of the themes of traditional Romanticism: nature, madness, love, nostalgia, childhood, memory, loss, melancholia, dreams, the supernatural, beauty. Many have a philosophical tone. About a fifth of the poems are ekphrastic: that is, they are reactions to other works of art, especially paintings and songs. For example, there are poems based on paintings by Van Gogh, Matisse, Velasquez, Hopper, (among many others), and songs by Nico, the Beach Boys, Neu and Popol Vuh (again among others). Since the author is now 70 and most of the poems are written in a fairly traditional style, they might appeal most to fellow Boomers. Many of the poems deal with coming to terms with getting old, looking back at one's life, and preparing to face death. This sounds grim, but the mood of the poems varies a lot. As well as the poems, the book also has two other sections featuring short stories and essays. The eight short stories follow the modern trend of being really short by past standards, often around 1000-1500 words. There is no flash fiction, though. With two exceptions, they are basically realistic in style and are mostly about relationships. The eleven essays focus on Art (predominantly painting and poetry), exploring the following range of topics in terms of their relationship to Art: authenticity, materiality, the canon, success and failure, rhyme, originality, ekphrasis, science, logic, beauty, and mystification.

Book The American Meadow Garden

Download or read book The American Meadow Garden written by John Greenlee and published by Timber Press. This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If there's one lesson every homeowner must learn, it's this: The traditional lawn is a huge, time consuming, synthetic-chemical sucking mistake. The time has come to look for new ways to create friendly, livable spaces around our homes. In The American Meadow Garden, ornamental grass expert John Greenlee creates a new model for homeowners and gardeners. For Greenlee, a meadow isn't a random assortment of messy, anonymous grasses. Rather, it is a shimmering mini-ecosystem, in which regionally appropriate grasses combine with colorful perennials to form a rich tapestry that is friendly to all life — with minimal input of water, time, and other scarce resources. Kids and pets can play in complete safety, and birds and butterflies flock there. A prairie style planting is a place you want to be. With decades of experience as a nurseryman and designer, John Greenlee is the perfect guide. He details all the practicalities of site preparation, plant selection, and maintenance; particularly valuable are his explanations of how ornamental grasses perform in different climates and areas. Gorgeous photography by Saxon Holt visually illustrates the message with stunning examples of meadow gardens from across the country. We've reached a stage where we can no longer follow past practices unthinkingly, particularly when those practices are wasteful and harmful to the environment. It's time to get rid of the old-fashioned lawn and embrace a sane and healthy future: the American meadow garden.

Book Water Security Conflict and Cooperation in Peri Urban South Asia

Download or read book Water Security Conflict and Cooperation in Peri Urban South Asia written by Vishal Narain and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-12-09 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book explores the implications of urbanization in South Asia for water (in-) security in the peri-urban spaces of Dhaka and Khulna in Bangladesh, Bengaluru, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune in India, and Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. The book looks into specifically peri-urban water security issues in a context of rapid urbanization and social-environmental changes, including the changing climate and its emerging impacts. It demonstrates how urbanization processes change water flows between rural and urban areas, the implications of this processes for the water security of peri-urban populations, and how new institutions and technologies develop to mediate the relationships between peri-urban communities and water. The book seeks to further the debate on peri-urban water security, including what constitutes the peri-urban, socially differentiated access to water in peri-urban spaces, interventions for improving water access, and emerging forms of cooperation and conflict related to water access in a context of urbanization and climate change. As such, this book is an interesting read for academics with various disciplinary backgrounds, professionals working in the worlds of national and international policy, NGOs, activist groups, research and development institutes, and individual readers interested in water security and urbanization.

Book The Worth of Water

Download or read book The Worth of Water written by Gary White and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2022-03-29 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the founders of nonprofits Water.org & WaterEquity Gary White and Matt Damon, the incredible true story of two unlikely allies on a mission to end the global water crisis for good On any given morning, you might wake up and shower with water, make your coffee with water, flush your toilet with water—and think nothing of it. But around the world, more than three-quarters of a billion people can’t do any of that—because they have no clean water source near their homes. And 1.7 billion don’t have access to a toilet. This crisis affects a third of the people on the planet. It keeps kids out of school and women out of work. It traps people in extreme poverty. It spreads disease. It’s also solvable. That conviction is what brought together movie actor Matt Damon and water expert and engineer Gary White. They spent years getting the answer wrong, then halfway right, then almost right. Over time, they and their organization, Water.org, have found an approach that works. Working with partners across East Africa, Latin America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, they’ve helped over 40 million people access water and/or sanitation. In The Worth of Water, Gary and Matt take us along on the journey—telling stories as they uncover insights, try out new ideas, and travel between the communities they serve and the halls of power where decisions get made. With humor and humility, they illuminate the challenges of launching a brand-new model with extremely high stakes: better health and greater prosperity for people allover the world. The Worth of Water invites us to become a part of this effort—to match hope with resources, to empower families and communities, and to end the global water crisis for good. All the authors’ proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to Water.org.
