This book was released on 2017-07-20 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: Distinction, , course: Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration., language: English, abstract: Data Innovation is gradually changing the banking industry around the world. Digital banking offers banks new opportunities and challenges. This paper gives a comprehension of how demographic characteristics, social components and consumer perception and attitudes towards digital banking influence its adoption. Digital banking has been developed in order to enable consumers to gain a greater share in the banking market. In Mauritius, there is little awareness about the emergence of digital banking despite the fact that this service is presently representing an important share in the banking market. This is because digital banking is a new industry here, and therefore, consumer acceptance and use of digital banking is still limited. To date, very little research has been conducted into factors which influence consumer adoption of digital banking in Mauritius, and so, therefore, there is a need for a study such as this. A research framework in light of the diffusion of innovation theory was utilized to identify elements that would impact the adoption of digital banking. This report has evaluated current literature and conclusions about this innovation banking technology. It has likewise reviewed the elements, including consumer demographic characteristic, consumer perceptions towards digital banking and social impacts that influence consumer adoption of this mode of banking. This study additionally clarifies the strategy utilized as a part of conducting a survey of 25 questions with 185 respondents to acquire primary data for this study. Analysis of these outcomes was made with charts and figures to determine to what extent the factors studied, influence consumer adoption of digital banking. The hypotheses of this research were tested with chi-square tests.

Book Savings for the Poor

Download or read book Savings for the Poor written by Michael A. Stegman and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning this year, federal payment recipients will receive their government benefits through electronic funds transfer (EFT)-- what most of us call direct deposit. Although cost-cutting is the driving force behind the move to a virtually all-electronic federal payment system, Michael Stegman believes the initiative has a far broader potential: to bring poor Americans into the banking mainstream. In this book Stegman outlines how many families will enter the mainstream banking system through EFT '99, as the program is called. He explains in careful detail the thinking behind the shift to EFT and the implementation of the program this year. He also argues that, for maximum success, EFT '99 should be combined with a program of national Individual Development Accounts (IDAs), dedicated savings accounts for low-income people that can be used for purchasing a first home, acquiring more education or job training, or starting a small-business. Essentially, EFT '99 will bring people into the banking system, and IDAs will give them an incentive to use the system to its fullest in order to make their money work for them and their children. There are other steps that the government can take to boost EFT's ability to help public aid recipients achieve self-sufficiency. It can: add a direct deposit option to state benefits payments programs; give banks significant additional Community Reinvestment Act Credit for establishing accounts for EFT recipients; and regulate fees for cashing government benefits and voluntary accounts so that people are not charged excessively for accessing their money. This book demonstrates that — with careful planning and a relatively small investment — the government's EFT initiative can have a major payoff in real assets and improved prospects for those who have been, for far too long, on the fringes of the country's mainstream banking system. Book Marketing and Mobile Financial Services

Download or read book Marketing and Mobile Financial Services written by Aijaz A. Shaikh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-21 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile financial services (MFS) are of major interest and importance to both researchers and practitioners. The role played by nonbanking actors including telecoms and FinTech firms as well as other participants, such as PayPal and Amazon, in developing and deploying innovative financial and payment services is undeniable. Peer2peer (P2P) payments from nonbank services are becoming increasingly commonplace and will shortly be codified by EC (EU?) regulations requiring banks to provide access to consumer data for third-party app developers and service providers. Three major mobile financial systems—mobile banking, mobile payments, and branchless banking—currently dominate the electronic retail banking sector. Although interconnected and interrelated, their business models, regulatory frameworks, and target markets are distinct. This book provides a unified perspective on MFS and discusses its evolution, growth, and future, as well as identifying the frameworks, stakeholders, and technologies used in financial information systems in general and MFS in particular. Academics and researchers in digital and financial marketing will find this book an invaluable resource, as will bank executives, regulators, policy makers, FinTech professionals, and anyone interested in how mobile technology, social media and financial services will increasingly intersect.

Book Organizational Customer Factors Influencing Adoption of Electronic Banking

Download or read book Organizational Customer Factors Influencing Adoption of Electronic Banking written by Manal Rizk and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronic Banking is relatively a recent technology that enables customers to perform many financial services with no need to visit bank branches. It is internet based technology that can be accessed through a PC (Internet banking) or a wireless network and mobile phone (Mobile banking). This technology is adopted by almost all the banks worldwide for many years now and still there is high potential for growth. Many past studies have examined the benefits of diffusion and adoption of this banking alternative channel to both customers and banks. However, the uptake of this technology in Egypt is still slow and still many Egyptian customers are relying on bank branches to perform financial transactions. This paper explores some organizational and customer factors that influence the diffusion and adoption of electronic banking in Egypt towards increasing the rate of usage by both Egyptian banks and customers. The study also proposes some guiding strategies for Egyptian banking sector based on the explored factors. These strategies are change management, Building bank-customer relationship (trust), creating awareness and removing the risk and security customer concerns of technology. The study also recommends that the Egyptian banks should consider the demographics variables, specially age, education and income level when setting strategies for electronic banking as an alternative channel to traditional banking. The importance of customer and employees past experience in using technology also was highlighted in this research.

Book Testing for Complementarity between Stores and E Commerce

Download or read book Testing for Complementarity between Stores and E Commerce written by Emilia Bonaccorsi di Patti and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We empirically investigate the relevance of demand-side complementarity between electronic and traditional provision of banking services. Since no systematic data on prices for the two types of service is available, it is not possible to estimate cross-elasticities of demand. We resort to two indirect tests. The first test is based on estimating the relationship between branches and the diffusion of e-banking services in local markets, controlling for individual bank and market characteristics. We test three alternative hypotheses on the relationship between the two delivery channels: complementarity, substitution or segmentation. We find that banks expanded relatively more in the e-business in those local markets where they had relatively fewer branches, with the exclusion of markets where the banks were chartered. The second test is based on measuring the impact of the joint provision of banking services - electronically and at traditional branches - on banks' revenues per customer. We estimate a non-standard revenue function that relates revenues from asset management, brokerage and payment services to the share of customers employing e-banking, given the total number of bank customers. Our results show that a high share of e-customers is associated with a reduction in revenues per customer. This evidence is not consistent with complementarity because banks did not extract substantial consumer surplus from the joint provision of electronic services and traditional services at the branch.

Book Market Structure and the Diffusion of E Commerce

Download or read book Market Structure and the Diffusion of E Commerce written by Jason Allen and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper studies the effect of market structure on the diffusion of e-commerce technologies. These include self-serve electronic check-in/-out kiosks, online retail outlets, online customer-service centers, and e-banking, which reduce costs for firms relative to their old, non-electronic (offline) technology. The full benefits for firms of these technologies, however, accrue only once consumers begin to perform a significant share of their transactions using electronic options. Since learning costs are involved in the adoption of the new technology, firms may try to encourage consumers to switch to the electronic option by manipulating the relative quality of the two options. We argue that their ability to do so is a function of market structure. In more competitive markets, reducing the relative attractiveness of the offline option involves the risk of losing customers (or potential customers) to competitors, whereas this is less of a concern for a more dominant firm. We study this issue in the context of the retail banking industry. Using household survey data on banking habits, as well as data on branch-locations, we find that households respond to branch closures by adopting and using e-banking more intensively. We show that a banks ability to close branches, and therefore gain from this consumer response, depends on market structure.
