Book Handbook of Acoustics

Download or read book Handbook of Acoustics written by Malcolm J. Crocker and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1998-03-09 with total page 1494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acoustical engineers, researchers, architects, and designers need a comprehensive, single-volume reference that provides quick and convenient access to important information, answers and questions on a broad spectrum of topics, and helps solve the toughest problems in acoustical design and engineering. The Handbook of Acoustics meets that need. It offers concise coverage of the science and engineering of acoustics and vibration. In more than 100 clearly written chapters, experts from around the world share their knowledge and expertise in topics ranging from basic aerodynamics and jet noise to acoustical signal processing, and from the interaction of fluid motion and sound to infrasound, ultrasonics, and quantum acoustics. Topics covered include: * General linear acoustics * Nonlinear acoustics and cavitation * Aeroacoustics and atmospheric sound * Mechanical vibrations and shock * Statistical methods in acoustics * Architectural acoustics * Physiological acoustics * Underwater sound * Ultrasonics, quantum acoustics, and physical aspects of sound * Noise: its effects and control * Acoustical signal processing * Psychological acoustics * Speech communication * Music and musical acoustics * Acoustical measurements and instrumentation * Transducers The Handbook of Acoustics belongs on the reference shelf of every engineer, architect, research scientist, or designer with a professional interest in the propagation, control, transmission, and effects of sound.

Download or read book Ultrasonics written by H. Kuttruff and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a translation of 'Physik und Technik des Ultraschalls', originally published in 1988 by S. Hirzel Verlag, Stuttgart. As in the German edition, it is based on lectures on ultrasound which the author has given over the past fifteen years to students of electrical engineer ing and physics at the Rheinisch-Westfiilische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Germany. Its purpose is to explain and describe the peculiarities of high frequency sound with general acoustics as a foundation. It is these peculiarities which have led to the development of specific methods of sound generation and sound detection on the one hand and are relevant to the way ultrasound propagates in various materials, and which are the origin of a wide range of technical applications on the other. The first part of the book is devoted to the fundamentals of ultrasonics. Since the reader is not expected to have a knowledge of general acoustics, introductory chapters survey the basic ideas and laws of acoustics without systematically deriving the formulae pre sented. Likewise, the third chapter, which deals with the radiation and diffraction of sound, is still fairly general, although it is somewhat more adapted to the specific requirements of ultrasound. In the three subsequent chapters, the generation and detection or measurement of ultrasound is dealt with. The seventh chapter is a digression on the peculiarities of the hypersonic range.

Book Handbook of Elastic Properties of Solids Liquids and Gases Four Volume Set

Download or read book Handbook of Elastic Properties of Solids Liquids and Gases Four Volume Set written by Moises Levy and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2000-10-23 with total page 2513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sound waves propagate through galactic space, through two-dimensional solids, through biological systems, through normal and dense stars, and through everything that surrounds us; the earth, the sea, and the air. We use sound to locate objects, to identify objects, to understand processes going on in nature, to communicate, and to entertain. The elastic properties of materials determine the velocity of sound in them and tell us about their response to stresses something which is very important when we are trying to construct, manufacture, or create something with any material. The Handbook of Elastic Properties of Materials will provide these characteristics for almost everything whose elastic properties has ever been measured or deduced in a concise and approachable manner. Leading experts will explain the significance of the elastic properties as they relate to intrinsic microscopic behavior, to manufacturing, to construction, or to diagnosis. They will discuss the propagation of sound in newly discovered or created materials, and in common materials which are being investigated with a fresh outlook. The Handbook will provide the reader with the elastic properties of the common and mundane, the novel and unique, the immense and the microscopic, and the exhorbitantly dense and the ephemeral.. You will also find the measurement. And theoretical techniques that have been developed and invented in order to extract these properties from a reluctant nature and recalcitrant systems. Key Features * Solids, liquids and gases covered in one handbook * Articles by experts describing insights developed over long and Illustrious careers * Properties of esoteric substances, such as normal and dense stars, superfluid helium three, fullerness, two dimensional solids, extraterrestial substances, gems and planetary atmospheres * Properties of common materials such as food, wood used for musical instruments, paper, cement, and cork * Modern dynamic elastic properties measurement techniques
