Book Quasi coherent Demodulation of Phase shift keyed Signals

Download or read book Quasi coherent Demodulation of Phase shift keyed Signals written by Amitabha Ghosh and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major part of the work described in the thesis is a study of a novel technique for the demodulation of two level phase shift keyed signals. Its advantage over conventional coherent demodulation methods is that it uses a free running oscillator as the local oscillator in the receiver, which is not locked to the transmitted carrier signal. Thus this novel system does not require the complex synchronisation techniques used in conventional phase shift keyed demodulators. This new demodulator like conventional coherent demodulators has not got the fixed speed disadvantage of differential phase shift keying. This new demodulator also referred to as a Quasi-Coherent demodulator has been characterised both theoretically and experimentally and compared with conventional coherent and differential phase shift-keyed systems. The possibility of extending this technique to multiphase phase shift keyed system is also discussed. The performance of a multilevel coherent phase shift keyed system in the presence of interference can be predicted by computing the exact mathematical equation for the error rate. In the thesis an approximate, but quick and simple method has been developed to, predict the performance of multilevel coherent phase shift keyed system from the well known result of a two level coherent phase shift keyed system. In all the interference analysis so far done by other authors, it is assumed that the reference at the receiver is coherent with the received signal. However, it is evident that in the presence of a strong interference, a phase locked loop derived reference will in general be coherent with the composite signal (i.e. signal plus interference plus noise) and not with the signal as assumed by previous authors. The effect of such a reference i.e. coherent with the composite signal on the performance of a two level system has been discussed fully in chapter four. The performance of a digital system also depends on the receiving filter characteristic and on the sampling jitter that is inevitably present in the sampling pulse in the decision circuitry of the receiver. The effect of these two factors on the performance of a two level coherent phase shift keyed system has been fully discussed in chapter five.

Book Performance Analysis of Noncoherent Differential Phase Shift Keying Using Post Detection Selection Combining Over a Rayleigh Fading Channel

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Noncoherent Differential Phase Shift Keying Using Post Detection Selection Combining Over a Rayleigh Fading Channel written by Tahir Conka and published by . This book was released on 1998-06-01 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, the performance analysis of a non-coherent Differential Phase Shift Keying (DPSK) receiver using Post-Detection Selection Combining techniques over a Rayleigh fading channel is investigated. Post- Detection Selection Combining (PDSC) is evaluated and compared to Equal Gain Combining (EGC) and Selection Combining (SC), the two common diversity techniques discussed in the literature. Numerical results obtained for Post- Detection Selection Combining are compared to Selection Combining and Equal Gain Combining. The Post-Detection Selection Combining method is shown to be superior to the Selection Combining method but inferior to Equal Gain Combining method for a non-coherent DPSK receiver operating over a Rayleigh fading channel.

Book Interception and Demodulation of Slow Frequency hopped Differential Phase Shift Keyed Signals Using Envelope Detection and Pattern Recognition

Download or read book Interception and Demodulation of Slow Frequency hopped Differential Phase Shift Keyed Signals Using Envelope Detection and Pattern Recognition written by Scott Michael Koziol and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a novel non-coherent wireless communication receiver design for intercepting and demodulating frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) signals. This interception receiver is based upon phase modulation to amplitude modulation conversion (PM to AM), and is specifically designed for demodulating a slow frequency-hopped signal that has differentially encoded phase shift keying (DPSK) modulation. The receiver will also demodulate non-frequency hopped DPSK signals. Matlab(Superscript Trade Mark Symbol) simulations show that if a signal has a signal to noise ratio (SNR) greater than approximately 30 dB, the intercept receiver can demodulate it by using the following: a bank of filters for PM to AM conversion, envelope detectors for each filter in the bank, and a pattern recognition algorithm that processes the envelope detector outputs, combines them, and maps the result into bits. The performance of the receiver is characterized with simulations and analytical calculations.

Book Noncoherent Hybrid DS SFH Spread Spectrum Multiple Access Communications

Download or read book Noncoherent Hybrid DS SFH Spread Spectrum Multiple Access Communications written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The performance of noncoherent reception in synchronous and asynchronous hybrid direct- sequence/slow-frequency-hopped spread-spectrum multiple-access communication systems operating through additive white Gaussian noise channels is investigated. Systems with binary and Mar-y frequency-shift-keying modulation and noncoherent demodulation, as well as systems with differential-phase-shift keying modulation and differentially coherent demodulation are examined and their probability of error is evaluated for random frequency-hopping patterns and signature sequences. The multiple-access capability of noncoherent hybrid spread-spectrum is shown to be superior to that of noncoherent purely frequency-hopped spread-spectrum and inferior to that of non- coherent purely direct-sequence spread-spectrum for systems with the same bandwidth expansion. Comparison of hybrid systems with coherent and noncoherent demodulation shows a considerable loss in the performance of the noncoherent systems.

Book Optical Fiber Telecommunications VII

Download or read book Optical Fiber Telecommunications VII written by Alan Willner and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-10-16 with total page 1118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With optical fiber telecommunications firmly entrenched in the global information infrastructure, a key question for the future is how deeply will optical communications penetrate and complement other forms of communication (e.g., wireless access, on-premises networks, interconnects, and satellites). Optical Fiber Telecommunications, the seventh edition of the classic series that has chronicled the progress in the research and development of lightwave communications since 1979, examines present and future opportunities by presenting the latest advances on key topics such as: Fiber and 5G-wireless access networks Inter- and intra-data center communications Free-space and quantum communication links Another key issue is the use of advanced photonics manufacturing and electronic signal processing to lower the cost of services and increase the system performance. To address this, the book covers: Foundry and software capabilities for widespread user access to photonic integrated circuits Nano- and microphotonic components Advanced and nonconventional data modulation formats The traditional emphasis of achieving higher data rates and longer transmission distances are also addressed through chapters on space-division-multiplexing, undersea cable systems, and efficient reconfigurable networking. This book is intended as an ideal reference suitable for university and industry researchers, graduate students, optical systems implementers, network operators, managers, and investors. Quotes: "This book series, which owes much of its distinguished history to the late Drs. Kaminow and Li, describes hot and growing applied topics, which include long-distance and wideband systems, data centers, 5G, wireless networks, foundry production of photonic integrated circuits, quantum communications, and AI/deep-learning. These subjects will be highly beneficial for industrial R&D engineers, university teachers and students, and funding agents in the business sector." Prof. Kenichi Iga President (Retired), Tokyo Institute of Technology "With the passing of two luminaries, Ivan Kaminow and Tingye Li, I feared the loss of one of the premier reference books in the field. Happily, this new version comes to chronicle the current state-of-the-art and is written by the next generation of leaders. This is a must-have reference book for anyone working in or trying to understand the field of optical fiber communications technology." Dr. Donald B. Keck Vice President, Corning, Inc. (Retired) "This book is the seventh edition in the definitive series that was previously marshaled by the extraordinary Ivan Kaminow and Tingye Li, both sadly no longer with us. The series has charted the remarkable progress made in the field, and over a billion kilometers of optical fiber currently snake across the globe carrying ever-increasing Internet traffic. Anyone wondering about how we will cope with this incredible growth must read this book." Prof. Sir David Payne Director, Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton Updated edition presents the latest advances in optical fiber components, systems, subsystems and networks Written by leading authorities from academia and industry Gives a self-contained overview of specific technologies, covering both the state-of-the-art and future research challenges
