Book Lectures on K hler Geometry

Download or read book Lectures on K hler Geometry written by Andrei Moroianu and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-03-29 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kähler geometry is a beautiful and intriguing area of mathematics, of substantial research interest to both mathematicians and physicists. This self-contained graduate text provides a concise and accessible introduction to the topic. The book begins with a review of basic differential geometry, before moving on to a description of complex manifolds and holomorphic vector bundles. Kähler manifolds are discussed from the point of view of Riemannian geometry, and Hodge and Dolbeault theories are outlined, together with a simple proof of the famous Kähler identities. The final part of the text studies several aspects of compact Kähler manifolds: the Calabi conjecture, Weitzenböck techniques, Calabi–Yau manifolds, and divisors. All sections of the book end with a series of exercises and students and researchers working in the fields of algebraic and differential geometry and theoretical physics will find that the book provides them with a sound understanding of this theory.

Book Complex Spaces in Finsler Lagrange and Hamilton Geometries

Download or read book Complex Spaces in Finsler Lagrange and Hamilton Geometries written by Gheorghe Munteanu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-03 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a historical point of view, the theory we submit to the present study has its origins in the famous dissertation of P. Finsler from 1918 ([Fi]). In a the classical notion also conventional classification, Finsler geometry has besides a number of generalizations, which use the same work technique and which can be considered self-geometries: Lagrange and Hamilton spaces. Finsler geometry had a period of incubation long enough, so that few math ematicians (E. Cartan, L. Berwald, S.S. Chem, H. Rund) had the patience to penetrate into a universe of tensors, which made them compare it to a jungle. To aU of us, who study nowadays Finsler geometry, it is obvious that the qualitative leap was made in the 1970's by the crystallization of the nonlinear connection notion (a notion which is almost as old as Finsler space, [SZ4]) and by work-skills into its adapted frame fields. The results obtained by M. Matsumoto (coUected later, in 1986, in a monograph, [Ma3]) aroused interest not only in Japan, but also in other countries such as Romania, Hungary, Canada and the USA, where schools of Finsler geometry are founded and are presently widely recognized.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curves and surfaces are objects that everyone can see, and many of the questions that can be asked about them are natural and easily understood. Differential geometry is concerned with the precise mathematical formulation of some of these questions, while trying to answer them using calculus techniques. The geometry of differentiable manifolds with structures is one of the most important branches of modern differential geometry. This well-written book discusses the theory of differential and Riemannian manifolds to help students understand the basic structures and consequent developments. While introducing concepts such as bundles, exterior algebra and calculus, Lie group and its algebra and calculus, Riemannian geometry, submanifolds and hypersurfaces, almost complex manifolds, etc., enough care has been taken to provide necessary details which enable the reader to grasp them easily. The material of this book has been successfully tried in classroom teaching. The book is designed for the postgraduate students of Mathematics. It will also be useful to the researchers working in the field of differential geometry and its applications to general theory of relativity and cosmology, and other applied areas. KEY FEATURES  Provides basic concepts in an easy-to-understand style.  Presents the subject in a natural way.  Follows a coordinate-free approach.  Includes a large number of solved examples and illuminating illustrations.  Gives notes and remarks at appropriate places.

Book Transformation Groups in Differential Geometry

Download or read book Transformation Groups in Differential Geometry written by Shoshichi Kobayashi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given a mathematical structure, one of the basic associated mathematical objects is its automorphism group. The object of this book is to give a biased account of automorphism groups of differential geometric struc tures. All geometric structures are not created equal; some are creations of ~ods while others are products of lesser human minds. Amongst the former, Riemannian and complex structures stand out for their beauty and wealth. A major portion of this book is therefore devoted to these two structures. Chapter I describes a general theory of automorphisms of geometric structures with emphasis on the question of when the automorphism group can be given a Lie group structure. Basic theorems in this regard are presented in §§ 3, 4 and 5. The concept of G-structure or that of pseudo-group structure enables us to treat most of the interesting geo metric structures in a unified manner. In § 8, we sketch the relationship between the two concepts. Chapter I is so arranged that the reader who is primarily interested in Riemannian, complex, conformal and projective structures can skip §§ 5, 6, 7 and 8. This chapter is partly based on lec tures I gave in Tokyo and Berkeley in 1965.
