Book Existence Theory for Nonlinear Ordinary Differential Equations

Download or read book Existence Theory for Nonlinear Ordinary Differential Equations written by Donal O'Regan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We begin our applications of fixed point methods with existence of solutions to certain first order initial initial value problems. This problem is relatively easy to treat, illustrates important methods, and in the end will carry us a good deal further than may first meet the eye. Thus, we seek solutions to Y'. = I(t,y) (1. 1 ) { yeO) = r n where I: I X R n ---+ R and I = [0, b]. We shall seek solutions that are de fined either locally or globally on I, according to the assumptions imposed on I. Notice that (1. 1) is a system of first order equations because I takes its values in Rn. In section 3. 2 we will first establish some basic existence theorems which guarantee that a solution to (1. 1) exists for t > 0 and near zero. Familiar examples show that the interval of existence can be arbi trarily short, depending on the initial value r and the nonlinear behaviour of I. As a result we will also examine in section 3. 2 the dependence of the interval of existence on I and r. We mention in passing that, in the results which follow, the interval I can be replaced by any bounded interval and the initial value can be specified at any point in I. The reasoning needed to cover this slightly more general situation requires minor modifications on the arguments given here.

Book Almost Automorphic Type and Almost Periodic Type Functions in Abstract Spaces

Download or read book Almost Automorphic Type and Almost Periodic Type Functions in Abstract Spaces written by Toka Diagana and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-13 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive introduction to the concepts of almost periodicity, asymptotic almost periodicity, almost automorphy, asymptotic almost automorphy, pseudo-almost periodicity, and pseudo-almost automorphy as well as their recent generalizations. Some of the results presented are either new or else cannot be easily found in the mathematical literature. Despite the noticeable and rapid progress made on these important topics, the only standard references that currently exist on those new classes of functions and their applications are still scattered research articles. One of the main objectives of this book is to close that gap. The prerequisites for the book is the basic introductory course in real analysis. Depending on the background of the student, the book may be suitable for a beginning graduate and/or advanced undergraduate student. Moreover, it will be of a great interest to researchers in mathematics as well as in engineering, in physics, and related areas. Further, some parts of the book may be used for various graduate and undergraduate courses.

Book Nonlinear Integral Equations in Abstract Spaces

Download or read book Nonlinear Integral Equations in Abstract Spaces written by Dajun Guo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many problems arising in the physical sciences, engineering, biology and ap plied mathematics lead to mathematical models described by nonlinear integral equations in abstract spaces. The theory of nonlinear integral equations in ab stract spaces is a fast growing field with important applications to a number of areas of analysis as well as other branches of science. This book is devoted to a comprehensive treatment of nonlinear integral equations in abstract spaces. It is the first book that is dedicated to a systematic development of this subject, and it includes the developments during recent years. Chapter 1 introduces some basic results in analysis, which will be used in later chapters. Chapter 2, which is a main portion of this book, deals with nonlin ear integral equations in Banach spaces, including equations of Fredholm type, of Volterra type and equations of Hammerstein type. Some applica equations tions to nonlinear differential equations in Banach spaces are given. We also discuss an integral equation modelling infectious disease as a typical applica tion. In Chapter 3, we investigate the first order and second order nonlinear integro-differential equations in Banach spaces including equations of Volterra type and equations of mixed type. Chapter 4 is devoted to nonlinear impulsive integral equations in Banach spaces and their applications to nonlinear impul sive differential equations in Banach spaces.

Book Functional Analysis and Differential Equations in Abstract Spaces

Download or read book Functional Analysis and Differential Equations in Abstract Spaces written by S D Zaidman and published by Chapman and Hall/CRC. This book was released on 1999-05-20 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Functional Analysis and Differential Equations in Abstract Spaces provides an elementary treatment of this very classical topic-but presented in a rather unique way. The author offers the functional analysis interconnected with specialized sections on differential equations, thus creating a self-contained text that includes most of the necessary functional analysis background, often with quite complete proofs. Beginning with some basic functional analysis-Hilbert and Banach spaces and their linear operators-Dr. Zaidman then presents some results about the abstract Cauchy problem, in implicit or explicit form, and related semigroups of operators, weak and ultraweak solutions, the uniqueness of the Cauchy problem, the uniqueness of bounded ultraweak solutions, and the well-posed ultraweak Cauchy problem. He goes on to present some results on almost-periodic solutions and an asymptotic result for a differential inequality in ultraweak form. Designed to inspire interest in this elegant and rapidly growing field of mathematics, this volume presents the material at a relatively elementary level-requiring a minimum of knowledge and ability in the field-yet with depth sufficient for understanding various special topics in operator differential equations. Many of the research results appear for the first time in book form and some for the first time anywhere. Researchers in the theories of differential equations in abstract spaces, semigroups of operators, and evolution equations, along with researchers in mathematical physics and quantum mechanics will find this work both enlightening and accessible.

Book Theory of Set Differential Equations in Metric Spaces

Download or read book Theory of Set Differential Equations in Metric Spaces written by V. Lakshmikantham and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this volume is to describe the theory of set differential equations (SDEs) as an independent discipline. It incorporates the recent general theory of set differential equations, discusses the interconnections between set differential equations and fuzzy differential equations and uses both smooth and nonsmooth analysis for investigation. The study of SDEs is a rapidly growing area of mathematics and this volume provides a timely introduction to a subject that follows the present trend of studying analysis and differential equations in metric spaces. It is a useful reference text for postgraduates and researchers/nonlinear analysts, engineering and computational scientists working in fuzzy systems.

Book Differential Equations on Measures and Functional Spaces

Download or read book Differential Equations on Measures and Functional Spaces written by Vassili Kolokoltsov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-20 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This advanced book focuses on ordinary differential equations (ODEs) in Banach and more general locally convex spaces, most notably the ODEs on measures and various function spaces. It briefly discusses the fundamentals before moving on to the cutting edge research in linear and nonlinear partial and pseudo-differential equations, general kinetic equations and fractional evolutions. The level of generality chosen is suitable for the study of the most important nonlinear equations of mathematical physics, such as Boltzmann, Smoluchovskii, Vlasov, Landau-Fokker-Planck, Cahn-Hilliard, Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman, nonlinear Schroedinger, McKean-Vlasov diffusions and their nonlocal extensions, mass-action-law kinetics from chemistry. It also covers nonlinear evolutions arising in evolutionary biology and mean-field games, optimization theory, epidemics and system biology, in general models of interacting particles or agents describing splitting and merging, collisions and breakage, mutations and the preferential-attachment growth on networks. The book is intended mainly for upper undergraduate and graduate students, but is also of use to researchers in differential equations and their applications. It particularly highlights the interconnections between various topics revealing where and how a particular result is used in other chapters or may be used in other contexts, and also clarifies the links between the languages of pseudo-differential operators, generalized functions, operator theory, abstract linear spaces, fractional calculus and path integrals.

Book Almost Periodic and Almost Automorphic Functions in Abstract Spaces

Download or read book Almost Periodic and Almost Automorphic Functions in Abstract Spaces written by Gaston M. N'Guérékata and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-28 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the foundation of the theory of almost automorphic functions in abstract spaces and the theory of almost periodic functions in locally and non-locally convex spaces and their applications in differential equations. Since the publication of Almost automorphic and almost periodic functions in abstract spaces (Kluwer Academic/Plenum, 2001), there has been a surge of interest in the theory of almost automorphic functions and applications to evolution equations. Several generalizations have since been introduced in the literature, including the study of almost automorphic sequences, and the interplay between almost periodicity and almost automorphic has been exposed for the first time in light of operator theory, complex variable functions and harmonic analysis methods. As such, the time has come for a second edition to this work, which was one of the most cited books of the year 2001. This new edition clarifies and improves upon earlier materials, includes many relevant contributions and references in new and generalized concepts and methods, and answers the longtime open problem, "What is the number of almost automorphic functions that are not almost periodic in the sense of Bohr?" Open problems in non-locally convex valued almost periodic and almost automorphic functions are also indicated. As in the first edition, materials are presented in a simplified and rigorous way. Each chapter is concluded with bibliographical notes showing the original sources of the results and further reading.

Book Functional Analysis Sobolev Spaces and Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Functional Analysis Sobolev Spaces and Partial Differential Equations written by Haim Brezis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-02 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is a completely revised, updated, and expanded English edition of the important Analyse fonctionnelle (1983). In addition, it contains a wealth of problems and exercises (with solutions) to guide the reader. Uniquely, this book presents in a coherent, concise and unified way the main results from functional analysis together with the main results from the theory of partial differential equations (PDEs). Although there are many books on functional analysis and many on PDEs, this is the first to cover both of these closely connected topics. Since the French book was first published, it has been translated into Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Romanian, Greek and Chinese. The English edition makes a welcome addition to this list.
