Book Differential Cross Sections for the Reactions math Display

Download or read book Differential Cross Sections for the Reactions math Display written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In high-statistics differential cross sections for the reactions [gamma] p -> p [eta] and [gamma] p -> p [eta]' the CLAS at Jefferson Lab was used to measure the center-of-mass energies from near threshold up to 2.84 GeV. The eta-prime results are the most precise to date and provide the largest energy and angular coverage. The eta measurements extend the energy range of the world's large-angle results by approximately 300 MeV. These new data, in particular the [eta]' measurements, are likely to help constrain the analyses being performed to search for new baryon resonance states.

Book Differential Cross Sections and Recoil Polarizations for the Reaction math Display

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here, high-statistics measurements of differential cross sections and recoil polarizations for the reaction $\gamma p \rightarrow K^+ \Sigma^0$ have been obtained using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. We cover center-of-mass energies ($\sqrt{s}$) from 1.69 to 2.84 GeV, with an extensive coverage in the $K^+$ production angle. Independent measurements were made using the $K^{+}p\pi^{-}$($\gamma$) and $K^{+}p$($\pi^-, \gamma$) final-state topologies, and were found to exhibit good agreement. Our differential cross sections show good agreement with earlier CLAS, SAPHIR and LEPS results, while offering better statistical precision and a 300-MeV increase in $\sqrt{s}$ coverage. Above $\sqrt{s} \approx 2.5$ GeV, $t$- and $u$-channel Regge scaling behavior can be seen at forward- and backward-angles, respectively. Our recoil polarization ($P_\Sigma$) measurements represent a substantial increase in kinematic coverage and enhanced precision over previous world data. At forward angles we find that $P_\Sigma$ is of the same magnitude but opposite sign as $P_\Lambda$, in agreement with the static SU(6) quark model prediction of $P_\Sigma \approx -P_\Lambda$. This expectation is violated in some mid- and backward-angle kinematic regimes, where $P_\Sigma$ and $P_\Lambda$ are of similar magnitudes but also have the same signs. In conjunction with several other meson photoproduction results recently published by CLAS, the present data will help constrain the partial wave analyses being performed to search for missing baryon resonances.

Book Measurement of Diffractive Dissociation Cross Sections in math Display

Download or read book Measurement of Diffractive Dissociation Cross Sections in math Display written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of diffractive dissociation cross sections in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV are presented in kinematic regions defined by the masses MX and MY of the two final-state hadronic systems separated by the largest rapidity gap in the event. Differential cross sections are measured as a function of [xi]X=M2X/s in the region -5.5 log10[xi]X -2.5, for log10MY 0.5, dominated by single dissociation (SD), and 0.5

Book Cross Sections and Rate Constants for Ion molecule Reactions

Download or read book Cross Sections and Rate Constants for Ion molecule Reactions written by George Gioumousis and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of ion-neutral reactions is well recognized, especially in the study of the chemistry of upper atmosphere. The first section of the report is concerned with refining the calculation of the cross section from the long-range interactions, assuming an arbitrary classical potential. The cross section so found is not regarded as an approximation to the reaction cross section, but rather the cross section for any sort of significant interaction, that is, the sum of the cross sections for elastic scattering, inelastic scattering, and the various reactions that can occur. The next section is a rigorous analysis of the experiments, based on the kinetic theory of gases, from the point of view of expressing whatever macroscopic parameters the experiment yields in terms of the reaction cross section, which is assumed known as a function of energy. An approximate method is developed which inverts the relationship and yields the reaction cross section as a function of energy if the experimental data are adequate. The final section applied the above-mentioned method to various reactions. This is believed to be the only way to find the cross section as such for ion-neutral reactions in the energy range somewhat above thermal. Some new and unexpected results were found by this method, especially for the H2, Ne reaction. (Author).

Book Symposia on Theoretical Physics and Mathematics 8

Download or read book Symposia on Theoretical Physics and Mathematics 8 written by Alladi Ramakrishnan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises the lectures given at the Fifth Anniversary Symposium held at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Madras, India, during January 1967. Professor Dallaporta of Padua delivered the inaugural address on the fundamental problem of quasars "whose study appears to hold im plications for cosmology." He presented a critical review of several attempts to understand their exceptionally large red shifts and also discussed the physical theories concerning the cause of the explosions which give rise to the quasars and to the tremendous energy output they require - questions which still remain unanswered. He stated, in concluding, that we may have to invoke certain aspects of the present theories of elementary particles in order to unravel these mysteries. Professor Mercier, well known for his studies on the philosophical foundations of modern physics, critically examined the various at tempts, such as that of Einstein, to formulate a unified field theory.
