Book excerpt: An investigation was made of the cross section of He3(d, p)He4 reactions in the zone of energies of bombarding neutrons 100-1500 kev by the registration of alpha particles. The function of exciting the reaction of He3(d, alpha) H1 was measured by us several times and no divergence was discovered in the output of alpha-particles within limits of statistical dispersion between individual measurement series. The table carried values of differential cross section measured by us in relation to the energy of deuterons falling under a 90 degree angle in direction of the ion beam are presented graphically. These results confirm the discovery by us resonance process of He3(d, p) He4 reactions with position of the resonance maximum at a deuteron energy, equalling 435 + 30 kev. The magnitude of the differential cross section in the maximum is 63.4 millibarn/steradians (barn = 10 to the minus 24th power sq cm, and drops monotonously to a value of 11 milibarn/steradians at an energy of 1500 kev. The error in determining this value is = 7%. (Author).

Book excerpt: The thick target yield of the reaction D + D yields T + p + 3.98 Mev has been measured, using a heavy ice target, and observations have been made on the angular distribution of the protons. Experiments have been carried out in the region 15 Kev to 105 Kev incident deuteron energy. Evidence has been obtained that, even for very small bombarding energies, the angular distribution of protons in the center-of-gravity (c.g.) system does not become Isotropic. The variation of the cross section with energy can only approximately be represented by a Gamow function.

Book excerpt: Cross sections for emission of complex fragments (Z>2) in their ground and excited states are presented for several heavy-ion reactions at bombarding energies above 10 MeV/nucleon. Data presented are mostly on the cross sections extracted by [gamma]-ray techniques. It is shown that a simple statistical approach to associate the ratio, of cross sections for excited states and ground states, to the temperature of the emitter fails to give the expected temperatures. However, it is shown that this is mostly due to the fact that the fragments that [gamma] decay are secondary fragments, produced by the particle decay of the primary emitted complex fragments. A Hauser-Feshbach analysis accounts well for the cross sections and extracted temperatures. 22 refs., 6 figs.
