Book Differential Cross Section for Electron Detachment from Negative Hydrogen Ions Colliding with Neutral Hydrogen Atoms

Download or read book Differential Cross Section for Electron Detachment from Negative Hydrogen Ions Colliding with Neutral Hydrogen Atoms written by Mark Richard Franz and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first Born Approximation is used to calculate the differential cross section for electron detachment from H( - ) ions colliding with hydrogen atoms. The differential and total cross sections are evaluated for the resultant hydrogen atom in the 1(s) or 2(s) state and the target hydrogen atom in any ecited state up to n = 8. The scattering matrix includes the exchange of particles interaction, which has not been included in earlier work. The results are presented and compared with earlier work where possible. (Author).

Book A Study of Excitations During Collisionally Induced Electron Detachment of Negative Ions

Download or read book A Study of Excitations During Collisionally Induced Electron Detachment of Negative Ions written by M. G. Menendez and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the double differential cross sections for the electron detachment of the negative ion of hydrogen upon collision with atomic targets were made around 1 MeV. The double differential cross section at and near zero degrees in the laboratory frame for the single electron detachment was found to account for all of the structure seen in the total (non-specific) double differential cross section. Although quantitative data do not yet exist, it is clear that the double electron detachment process does not contribute significantly to the total double differential cross section at zero degrees. Hence, the non-specific cross sections were used to investigate details of the angular, incident energy, and target dependencies of the structure. The results strongly indicate that a portion of the structure is a manifestation of leaving the final state projectile, the hydrogen atom, in an excited state. A modified version of the electron energy analyzer which permits measurement of Lyman alpha photons coincident with ejected electrons was completed. This version of the analyzer will be used to measure directly the electron energy spectrum coincident with excitation of the hydrogen atom to the 2p state.

Book excerpt: During past year, we have measured cross sections for associative and collisional detachment for several negative ions in collisions with atomic hydrogen. Additional experiments have been performed in which the formation of secondary negative ions and electrons by means of low energy ion impact on surfaces has been studied. Brief descriptions of these activities along with future plans for the project follow.

Book Cross Sections and Rate Constants for Ion molecule Reactions

Download or read book Cross Sections and Rate Constants for Ion molecule Reactions written by George Gioumousis and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of ion-neutral reactions is well recognized, especially in the study of the chemistry of upper atmosphere. The first section of the report is concerned with refining the calculation of the cross section from the long-range interactions, assuming an arbitrary classical potential. The cross section so found is not regarded as an approximation to the reaction cross section, but rather the cross section for any sort of significant interaction, that is, the sum of the cross sections for elastic scattering, inelastic scattering, and the various reactions that can occur. The next section is a rigorous analysis of the experiments, based on the kinetic theory of gases, from the point of view of expressing whatever macroscopic parameters the experiment yields in terms of the reaction cross section, which is assumed known as a function of energy. An approximate method is developed which inverts the relationship and yields the reaction cross section as a function of energy if the experimental data are adequate. The final section applied the above-mentioned method to various reactions. This is believed to be the only way to find the cross section as such for ion-neutral reactions in the energy range somewhat above thermal. Some new and unexpected results were found by this method, especially for the H2, Ne reaction. (Author).
