Developed as a supplementary text for college-level courses, this innovative book charts the sexual development and maturation of ten men and women in order to help students gain an integrated perspective on human sexuality. Among those whose stories are told are Libby, who overcame emotionally dependent behavior and achieved a satisfying sexual identity; Ed, a gay man who lived with and eventually died from the AIDS virus; Jennifer, who chose to become a prostitute to escape a disastrous home life; and Nick, whose sexual exploration helped him grow and find the perspective he needed to be able to commit to a long-term relationship. • Author : William Brame
  • Publisher : Villard
  • Release : 1996-01-13
  • ISBN : 0679769560
  • Pages : 561 pages

Download or read book Different Loving written by William Brame and published by Villard. This book was released on 1996-01-13 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A detailed, eye-opening account of the real sexual underground in America . . . a thorough and serious study.”—Playboy From Different Loving: In order to understand unusual sexualities such as dominance and submission, one first has to consider the question ‘What is normal?‘ If the unique function of sex is reproductive—and the only reason men and women should engage in sex is for the purpose of creating a new life—then only heterosexual intercourse is normal. By this standard, many common acts, even contraception, must be considered aberrant. Reproductive relevance was the Victorian standard of normalcy, and even today many of the laws in the United States still abide by that model. But people have always pursued sex for both reproduction and for pleasure and well-being. We start from the premise that sex for pleasure is a normal human drive and is acceptable when it brings pleasure to both partners. From this perspective, D&S is simply a ‘different‘ kind of loving. We hope to add to the greater body of knowledge about what people really do behind closed doors with the people they most love and trust. Perhaps Different Loving will help open the door for further research into the mystery, beauty, and complexity of human life and its diverse expressions. Praise for Different Loving “The definitive guide to the sexual styles of those who walk on the wild side.”—Kirkus Reviews “As a window on largely unexplored territory, Different Loving is a breakthrough in the dialogue on human sexuality, and a significant work of popular sociology.”—South Bend Tribune “A comprehensive primer on loving with leather and romance by riding crop.”—Michael Musto, New York Daily News

Book Sexual Hierarchies Public Status

Download or read book Sexual Hierarchies Public Status written by Cristian Berco and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the increasing popularity of queer scholarship, no major work in English thus far has explored the evidence of male homosexual behaviour found in the inquisitorial court records of early modern Spain. This absence seems all the more glaring considering the wealth of available archival material. Sexual Hierarchies, Public Status aims to fill this gap by comprehensively examining the Aragonese Inquisition's sodomy trials. Using court records, Cristian Berco provides an analysis of male sexuality and its connection to public social structures and processes. His study illustrates how male homosexual behaviour existed within a widespread gendered system that extolled the penetrative act as the masculine pursuit of an emasculated passive partner. This sexual hierarchy based on masculinity constantly intersected in a potentially subversive manner with notions of public hierarchy and posed a threat to local sexual economies. Yet, Berco demonstrates how the views of private denouncers and magistrates in the sodomy trials produced divergent sexual economies that rendered persecution unstable and diffuse. By focusing on how hierarchies were created both within sexual relationships and in the public eye, this investigation traces the significance of homosexual desire in the context of daily social relations informed by status, ethnic, religious, and national differences.

Essays map the terrain of the postcolonial as a global phenomenon at the intersection of several disciplinary inquiries. Book Sexual Morality in a Christless World

Download or read book Sexual Morality in a Christless World written by Matthew Rueger and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like in St. Paul's day, the Church around the world-and particularly in the United States-now frequently faces hostility at the first mention of homosexuality in casual conversations or public-square debates. Author Matthew Rueger openly embraces this hot topic, giving you a framework for defending your beliefs by first exploring the relationship between sexual sin in ancient history and twenty-first-century tangles of the same flavor. Topics such as temptation, promiscuity, marriage, homosexuality, natural law, and the church's role in it all then swirl together to reveal our unifying need for a Savior. Rueger writes compassionately with a father's heart and adamantly with a determination to outline the truth about sexual morality from a reasoned Christian perspective. We need to expect the unpleasant from our opponents, arm ourselves with answers to common objections, and speak in clarity and love. And let's not lose sight of the church as a place of refuge for those who are battered down by their desires. Real people with real struggles are being lost. Find Your Voice. Book jacket.
