Book Transport and Optical Properties of Nonideal Plasma

Download or read book Transport and Optical Properties of Nonideal Plasma written by I.T. Iakubov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to the physical properties of nonideal plasma, in which the effects of interparticle interactions are substantial. Such a plasma is usually compressed so strongly that it is called dense plasma. Interest in plasma studies has increased over the last 10 or 15 years, owing to the development of modern technology and sophisticated facilities whose oper ation is based on a high energy density. As a result of a recent sharp increase in the number of experimental and theoretical investigations, much interesting and reliable data on the properties of dense plasma have been obtained. The data are distributed in a rapidly growing number of original publications and reviews. This volume is a systematic treatment of the thermodynamics (ionization equilibrium, particle composition), charge transport properties (especially electric con ductivity), optical properties (peculiarities of continuous and discrete spectra), and collective modes (features and manifestations) of nonideal plasma. Theoretical models are considered along with the experimental data. The book is intended for the wide range of readers, including specialists in plasma physics and various researchers who need knowledge in this field.

Book Physics of Strongly Coupled Plasma

Download or read book Physics of Strongly Coupled Plasma written by Vladimir Fortov and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2006-11-09 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to the physics of plasma at high density, which has been compressed so strongly that the effects of interparticle interactions and non-ideality govern its behavior. Interest in this non-traditional plasma has been generated in recent years when states of matter with high concentration of energy became accessible experimentally as the basis of modern technologies and facilities. The greatest part of the matter in the Universe is in this exotic state. In this book, the methods of generation and diagnostics of strongly coupled plasmas are presented, along with the main theoretical methods and experimental results on thermodynamical, kinetic and optical properties. Particular attention is given to fast developing modern directions of strongly coupled plasmaphysics such as metallization of dielectrics and dielectrization of metals, non-neutral plasmas, dusty plasmas and their crystallization. The book is written for physicists and astrophysicists, engineers, and material scientists.

Book Transport Properties of Dense Plasmas

Download or read book Transport Properties of Dense Plasmas written by W. Ebeling and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 1984 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea to write this volume arose in May, 1979 on the "Annual Seminar on Sta tistical Physics" in Lahnwitz near Gustrow, a nice resort place of the Padagogische Hochschule Liselotte Herrmann Gustrow, where most of the authors were present. The participants of this seminar agreed in the general opinion that the transport properties of charged particle systems starting from ionized gases and ending with liquid metals should be interpreted in a unique way. The basic method of such a uni fied theory which is still in "status nascendi" nowadays, should be the statistical physics of systems with Coulombic interactions. The first two chapters of this volume are devoted to mainly experimental aspects in investigating high density plasmas. After transport theory is presented in chapter 3., two special problems are considered being of interest in the theory of high density plasmas: the problem of bound states in kinetic theory (chapter 4.) and the theory of liquid metals (chapter 5.), which may be considered as weakly coupled nonideal plas mas. Besides transport properties also thermodynamic properties of den se Coulomb systems have been discussed in chapters 1. and 5. The theory of thermodynamic properties of plasmas has been given in a previous volume (Nr. 5) of this series."

Book Optical Nonlinearities and Instabilities in Semiconductors

Download or read book Optical Nonlinearities and Instabilities in Semiconductors written by Hartmut Haug and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optical Nonlinearities and Instabilities in Semiconductors deals with various aspects of nonlinear optical phenomena and related optical instabilities in semiconductors. Measurements and explanations of the optical nonlinearities of various semiconductor materials and structures are presented, along with optical bistability and diode laser thresholds; self-oscillations; and chaos. This text consists of 17 chapters and begins with an introductory chapter to the historical background of investigations of the resonance-enhanced nonlinear optical properties of semiconductors and their manifestations in optical instabilities. The discussion then turns to the experimentally observed optical nonlinearities in homogeneous semiconductors and the microscopic theory of the optical band edge nonlinearities. This book considers the studies of the spectral region close to the band gap meant to exploit the resonance enhancement of the nonlinear optical behavior. The remaining chapters focus on nonlinear optical properties of semiconductor quantum wells; dense nonequilibrium excitations in gallium arsenide; optical decay and spatial relaxation; and optical bistability in semiconductor laser amplifiers. A chapter that describes instabilities in semiconductor lasers concludes the book. This book is intended for research students and active research workers who are interested in the basic physics or in the device applications of optical nonlinearities and instabilities in semiconductors.

Book Handbook of Optical Properties

Download or read book Handbook of Optical Properties written by Rolf E. Hummel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-02-24 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin Films for Optical Coating emphasizes the applications of thin films, deposition of thin films, and thin film characterization. Unlike monographs on this subject, this book presents the views of many expert authors. Individual chapters span a wide arc of topics within this field of study. The book offers an introduction to usual and unusual applications of optical thin films, treating in a more qualitative way general topics such as anticounterfeiting coatings, decorative coatings, light switches, contrast enhancement coatings, multiplexers, optical memories, and more. Contributors review thin film media for optical data storage, UV broadband and narrow-band filters, and optically active thin film coatings. Ion beam sputtering and magnetron sputtering deposition methods are described in detail. Characterization techniques are provided, including Raman spectroscopy and absorption measurements. The book also offers theories on light scattering of thin dielectric films and the electromagnetic properties of nanocermet thin films. This reference incorporates recent research by the individual authors with their views of current developments in their respective fields. Of particular interest to the reader will be an assessment of the historical developments of thin film physics written by one of the fathers of thin film technology, Professor M. Auwärter.

Book Optical Properties of Semiconductors

Download or read book Optical Properties of Semiconductors written by G. Martinez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is widely recognized that an understanding of the optical pro perties of matter will give a great deal of important information re levant to the fundamental physical properties. This is especially true in semiconductor physics for which, due to the intrinsic low screening of these materials, the optical response is quite rich. Their spectra reflect indeed as well electronic as spin or phonon transitions. This is also in the semiconductor field that artificial structures have been recently developed, showing for the first time specific physical properties related to the low dimentionality of the electronic and vi bronic properties : with this respect the quantum and fractional quan tum Hall effects are among the most well known aspects. The associated reduced screening is also a clear manifestation of these aspects and as such favors new optical properties or at least significantly enhan ces some of them. For all these reasons, it appeared necessary to try to review in a global way what the optical investigation has brought today about the understanding of the physics of semiconductors. This volume collects the papers presented at the NATO Advanced study Inst i tut e on "Optical Properties of Semiconductors" held at the Ettore Majorana Centre, Erice, Sicily on March 9th to 20th, 1992. This school brought together 70 scientists active in research related to optical properties of semiconductors. There were 12 lecturers who pro vided the main contributions .

Book Applications of High Field and Short Wavelength Sources

Download or read book Applications of High Field and Short Wavelength Sources written by Louis DiMauro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-08-31 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Optical Society of America Conference on Applications of High Fields and Short Wavelength Sources, held in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, from March 20-22, 1997, was an exceptionally exciting conference. This conference was the seventh in a series of topical con ferences, held every two years, which are devoted to the generation and application of high field and short wavelength sources. The meeting was truly international in scope, with equal participation from both within and outside of the US. In the past two years, there has been dramatic progress in both laser and x-ray coher ent sources, both fundamental and applied. The 1997 meeting highlighted these advances, which are summarized in sections 1 and 2 of this volume. Terawatt-class lasers are now avail able in the UV or at high repetition rates. Michael Perry (LLNL) presented a keynote talk on petawatt class lasers and their applications in inertial confinement fusion, while Jorge Rocca (Colorado State University) presented a keynote talk on tabletop soft-x-ray lasers. Genera tion and measurement techniques are becoming very sophisticated throughout the UV and x ray region of the spectrum, and coherent sources have been extended to wavelengths below 30A. Phase control in the x-ray region is also now possible, and new phase-matching schemes in the UV have been experimentally demonstrated. It is clear that a new field of x-ray nonlin ear optics will deveiop rapidly over the next few years.
