Moralische Urteile wurden geschmacklichen Äußerungen gleichgestellt, sie galten als subjektives und irrationales Gerede. Sie konnten nicht in den Rang objektiv beurteilter Normen gehoben werden, denn in den Augen der Logischen Empiristen konnten sie keinen rational begründeten Geltungsanspruch erheben.2 Es ist mit Rawls’ Verdienst, der politischen Philosophie wieder zu mehr Glaubwürdigkeit verholfen zu haben. A Theory of Justice entzündete eine lebhafte Diskussion über gesellschaftliche Gerechtigkeit. Das Werk wurde vielfach rezipiert, es wurden Verbesserungen und Erweiterungen vorgenommen, Kritik geübt z.B. von Seiten der „Liberitarians“ und der „Kommunitarians“3. Rawls selber hat einige Revisionen seiner Theorie vorgenommen, so u.a. in Political Liberalism (1993). Im Kern blieb sie jedoch bestehen.
