Furthermore, it develops a historical-materialist critique of the green economy concept that has been propagated in recent years as a solution not only for the ecological but also for the economic crisis. Finally, the book proposes a democratisation of societal nature relations as a way out of the crisis that requires overcoming capitalist property relations and the exclusive forms of controlling nature guaranteed by them.

This volume contains five studies of scholars from ASEAN and Europe that address various aspects of trade in tropical agricultural products between ASEAN and the European Community (EC). A comprehensive background picture of the agricultural sector in the ASEAN economies is given, and the EC strategy of giving preferences to the so-called Lome countries of Subsaharan Africa, the Carribean, and the Pacific is described. The negative aspects of the Common Agricultural Policy of the EC are analysed in a simulation model, and in a further contribution the specific impact of the Lome Conventions on the ASEAN countries is studied.
