Download or read book The Rhine written by R. E. H. Mellor and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1983, this volume examines one of the most long-standing major commercial water-arteries of Western and Central Europe: The Rhine. Since the mid 20th Century its importance has been given new stimulus by the intensified mobility of economic circulation generated by the EU – forming as it does a common axis to that organisation’s original six members. The Rhine is one of the world’s busiest rivers and therefore provides an excellent case study in the development of inland waterway transport, not only because of its complex physical nature, but also because of the diversity of economic, social and political patterns along its course.

Book Recommendations on Excavations

Download or read book Recommendations on Excavations written by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Geotechnik and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-12-02 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the issue of these recommendations, which have the character of a standard, the "Building Excavations" working group of the German Geotechnics Association (DGGT) aims to provide assistance with the design and structural calculation of excavation support works. The introduction of the Eurocodes for building control purposes made necessary a revision of the previous edition of the recommendations to comply with the requirements of DIN EN 1997-1:2009 together with the national annex DIN 1997-1/NA:2010-12 and the supplementary regulations of DIN 1054:2010-12. All recommendations were thoroughly checked, revised where necessary and adapted to new knowledge. Chapter 10 "Building excavations in water" was substantially revised. Due to the progress of development of measurement instruments and the more stringent requirements, Chapter 14 "Instrumentation for the monitoring and supervision of building excavation support works" was formulated completely anew. The recommendations of the working group "Building Excavations" should be of assistance, - to simplify the design and structural calculation of excavation support works, - to harmonise loading assumptions and calculation procedures, - to ensure the structural stability of excavation support works and their individual elements and - to improve the cost-effectiveness of excavation support works.

Book Roman Gaul Routledge Revivals

Download or read book Roman Gaul Routledge Revivals written by John Drinkwater and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roman Gaul, first published in 1983, makes use of a wealth of archaeological discoveries and modern methods of interpretation to give an account of the Roman presence in Gaul, from the time of Caesar’s conquests until the Crisis of the third century. Professor Drinkwater emphasises the changes caused in the Three Gauls and Germany by the impact of Romanisation – urbanisation, agriculture, trade and education – and points out the often curious ways in which Roman influences survive in these areas to the present day. Particular attention is paid to the evolution of the landowning class, as well as its relationship with the artisans and traders found in townships and cities. An assessment of the strength of Romano-Gallic society and its economy in the tumultuous third century AD concludes this lively and provocative coverage of an intriguing subject. Roman Gaul will be of interest to all students of the Roman legacy.

Book 40 Days of Dating

Download or read book 40 Days of Dating written by Timothy Goodman and published by ABRAMS. This book was released on 2015-01-20 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “What would happen if Harry met Sally in the age of Tinder and Snapchat? . . . A field guide to Millennial dating in New York City” (New York Daily News). When New York–based graphic designers and long-time friends Timothy Goodman and Jessica Walsh found themselves single at the same time, they decided to try an experiment. The old adage says that it takes forty days to change a habit—could the same be said for love? So they agreed to date each other for forty days, record their experiences in questionnaires, photographs, videos, texts, and artworks, and post the material on a website they would create for this purpose. What began as a small experiment between two friends became an Internet sensation, drawing five million unique (and obsessed) visitors from around the globe to their site and their story. 40 Days of Dating: An Experiment is a beautifully designed, expanded look at the experiment and the results, including a great deal of material that never made it onto the site, such as who they were as friends and individuals before the forty days and who they have become since.
