Book Biblical Theology of the New Testament

Download or read book Biblical Theology of the New Testament written by Peter Stuhlmacher and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2018-08-16 with total page 1124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First English edition of an iconic work of German scholarship Since its original publication in German, Peter Stuhlmacher’s two-volume Biblische Theologie des Neuen Testaments has influenced an entire generation of biblical scholars and theologians. Now Daniel Bailey’s expert translation makes this important work of New Testament theology available in English for the first time. Following an extended discussion of the task of writing a New Testament theology, Stuhlmacher explores the development of the Christian message across the pages of the Gospels, the writings of Paul, and the other canonical books of the New Testament. The second part of the book examines the biblical canon and its historical significance. A concluding essay by Bailey applies Stuhlmacher’s approach to specific texts in Romans and 4 Maccabees.

Book Theology of the New Testament

Download or read book Theology of the New Testament written by Udo Schnelle and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 912 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a few decades, jet packs seemed to be everywhere: on Gilligan’s Island, Lost in Space, Thunderball, and even the opening ceremony of the 1984 Olympics. Inventors promised we’d all be flying with them now, enabling us to zoom around effortlessly in the sky and getting us to work without traffic jams and trains. What happened to the jet pack? In The Great American Jet Pack, Steve Lehto gives us the definitive history of this and related devices, explaining how the technology arose, how it works, and why we don’t have them in our garages today. These individual lift devices, as they were blandly labeled by the government men who financed much of their development, answered man’s desire to simply step outside and take flight. No runways, no wings, no pilot’s license were required. Soaring through the air with the wind in your face and landing anyplace there was room to stand—could this be done? Yes, it could be, and it was. But the jet pack was perhaps the most overpromised technology of all time. From the rocket belt to the jet belt to the flying platform and all the way to Yves Rossy’s 21st-century free flights using a jet-powered wing, this book profiles the inventors and pilots, the hucksters and cheats, the businessmen and soldiers who were involved with these machines. And it finally tells a great American story of a technology whose promise may, one day, yet come to fruition.

Book The Infallibility of the Church in Orthodox Theology

Download or read book The Infallibility of the Church in Orthodox Theology written by Stylianos (Archbishop of Australia) and published by St Andrew's Orthodox Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although several Orthodox theologians have significantly enhanced the development of Ecclesiology in the twentieth century, the contribution of Archbishop Stylianos Harkianakis, Primate of the greek Orthodox CHurch in Austrlia, remains, without doubt, a landmark in the history of that theological field today. Essentially the authors consideration of the Church is that it is the most intimate and graced communion not only of human persons but of the entire created cosmos bonded together in a wondrous relationship with the uncreated God. Unconfusedly and indivisibly united with God, the Church therefore enjoys and rightly proclaims the truth - ie it is infallible - for the world's salvation and the glorification of God. Ultimately his the author's theology of the Church's infallibility, ie it's truthfulness, is simply a donological affirmation of the genuine presence of God among his people and the world at large.

Book Being Conformed to Christ in Community

Download or read book Being Conformed to Christ in Community written by James G. Samra and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2008-09-15 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work explores Paul's conception of maturity, paying special attention to the maturation process and the role of the local church in facilitating this process. Although central to Paul's theology, maturity is often overlooked in Pauline studies. An exegetical-theological study of the seven generally accepted epistles, this work makes heuristic use of three studies for the purpose of illuminating Paul's thoughts regarding maturity: a survey of modern psychology, and analyses of the communities of Qumran and of the Therapeutae. Samra argues that Paul understood his apostolic commission to involve delivering mature believers on the day of Christ. Samra suggests that the central motif of Pauline maturity is conformity of believers to the image of Christ and that believers' attitudes and actions become aligned with those exhibited by Christ, who provides the defining standard of maturity for Paul. For Paul there are five means used by the Spirit to conform believers to the image of Christ, which Samra presents and analyzes as components of the maturation process, namely: identifying with Christ, enduring suffering, experiencing the presence of God, receiving and living out wisdom from God, and imitating a godly example. Samra concludes by arguing that Paul expected the local church to facilitate maturation so that believers' participation in a local assembly would result in their being conformed to Christ. The church does this by facilitating the five components of the maturation process.

Book The Promise of Ecumenical Interpretation

Download or read book The Promise of Ecumenical Interpretation written by Stefan Alkier and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2024-08-20 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Promise of Ecumenical Interpretation pursues its ecumenical goals by allowing the Bible itself to serve as the point of commonality. The volume retains the Bible's centrality as a guideline for individual faith and for the institutional design of churches in the context of contemporary social conflicts. The authors--one Protestant, one Catholic, one Orthodox--present ten unifying theses on the understanding and function of a conception of Scripture under the sign of Sola Scriptura. They agree that only Scripture, when correctly understood, bears witness to good news for everyone, and that only a shared, expectant, and critical turn to Scripture makes sustainable ecumenism possible. This is the basis for bringing biblical insights to the conditions that make community life possible amid the global and local, ecclesiastical and social conflicts of the present.
