This book was released on 2022-12-06 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aphrodisiac: Definition, Etymology, History, Types, Risk etc. An aphrodisiac is any substance or food that increases sexual desire, arousal, behaviour, performance, or pleasure. A good sex life is often cited as an important part of a healthy and happy relationship, so it’s no wonder there is such a tremendous amount of interest in finding products that can make sex more enjoyable. Although many products purport to increase sexual desire and pleasure, the effectiveness of aphrodisiacs has not yet been firmly established. Research has shown that some substances may have adverse side effects. · For example, the National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health reports that Yohimbe, a compound derived from the bark of the African yohimbine tree that has been used as an aphrodisiac, has been linked to: · Heart attacks, · Seizures, · High blood pressure, and · Stomach problems. Thus, an effort has been made in this Booklet to precisely present Definition, Etymology, History, Types, Risk etc. along with plenty of ILLUSTRATIONS for better understanding this interesting and informative TOPIC of Aphrodisiacs. …Dr. H. Book Unlocking the Secrets of Aphrodisiacs

Download or read book Unlocking the Secrets of Aphrodisiacs written by Karen Ethan and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2024-04-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An aphrodisiac is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as any substance, be it food, drink, or drug, that stimulates sexual desire. This broad definition offers some flexibility, but aphrodisiacs are generally perceived as foods or potent concoctions believed to enhance sexual performance. The challenge lies in quantifying the increase in arousal and establishing the criteria for what makes an aphrodisiac truly effective. Regrettably, many claims about aphrodisiacs are exaggerated. Nevertheless, some intriguing medical studies support the efficacy of certain aphrodisiacs. These aren't merely ineffective remedies; they have some scientific basis. This book delves into the extravagant claims, potential benefits, and outright myths surrounding the world's most renowned and unexpected aphrodisiacs.

Book excerpt: The most comprehensive guide to the botany, pharmacology, cultural, ritual, and personal use of erotically stimulating substances from antiquity to the present day • Details the use, preparation, and dosage of more than 400 plant, animal, mineral, and synthetic substances, both common and exotic, as well as their botany, science, and legal status • Explores the historical and present use of aphrodisiacs and their role in sexual practices, culture, and art • Richly illustrated throughout with more than 800 color photographs The culmination of more than 30 years of cultural, anthropological, and scientific research, this encyclopedia examines the botany, pharmacology, history, preparation, dosage, and practical use of more than 400 erotically stimulating substances from antiquity to the present day. From plants and animals that enhance fertility and virility, like celery, snails, or oysters, to substances that induce arousal, like ephedra, opium, or cannabis, the encyclopedia is richly illustrated with more than 800 color photographs--many of which are from the authors’ extensive fieldwork around the world. Exploring individual, medicinal, and ritual use through historic and contemporary artwork, personal accounts, and literature as well as ayurvedic, tantric, shamanic, and European folklore practices and recent pharmacological research, the authors look at the revolving cycle of acceptance and condemnation of aphrodisiacs, the qualities that incur the label of “aphrodisiac,” the role of mind and setting, and the different ways aphrodisiacs stimulate desire--either physically, through the senses and vital organs, or mentally, through heightened awareness and altered consciousness. This comprehensive guide reveals these “remedies of the love goddess” as holy remedies whose proper use can help reestablish harmony with oneself, one’s partner, and the universe.

However, the knowledge of aphrodisiac plants is necessary for everyone to lead a healthy and psychologically contented life. Book Dictionary of Gypsy Life and Lore

Download or read book Dictionary of Gypsy Life and Lore written by H. E. Wedeck and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through the centuries the Gypsies all over the world have been misunderstood, maligned, rejected. Outcasts of the countries in which they lived, they have wandered for centuries over the face of the earth. They have no homeland, no political unity, no recognition among nations. They have been alone, sundered, shunned, persecuted and banished. Until about a century ago, their original home has been a matter of dispute. Their language has been a source of puzzlement. Yet their conduct and their traditions, their feeling for music, dance and song, have all been acclaimed. Still they were not accepted and were forced to remain apart from conventional society. Here is their epic history, with its folktales and beliefs, its rites and customs. Here is the vast treasury of the Story of the Gypsies. Harry E. Wedeck was a linguistic, scholar of the classics, and observer of spheres beyond the norm. A native of Sheffield, England, Mr. Wedeck was chairman of the department of classical languages at Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn from 1935 to 1950 and then taught the classics at Brooklyn College until 1968. Afterward he lectured on medieval studies at the New School for Social Research, until 1974. Some of his excursions into the unusual remain available in reprint editions. They include "Dictionary of Astrology," "A Dictionary of Aphrodisiacs," "A Treasury of Witchcraft" and "Triumph of Satan." They were originally written near the end of Mr. Wedeck's career, when he was steeped in the classics as an educator in the New York City school and college system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The planning and writing of this book has taken rather longer than I had originally intended; what began as a modest literary project for two second-year medical students has expanded over eight years to become a complete book. The subject matter lent itself all too easily to a sen sationalist approach yet, on the other hand, a strictly scientific approach would probably have resulted in a dull dry text of little interest to the general reader. I have therefore attempted to bridge the gap and make the book intelligible and entertaining to the non-special ist, but at the same time ensuring that it is factually correct and adequately researched for the scientist or clinician. I have always been impressed by Sir J .G. Frazer's introduction to his classic book The Golden Bough in which he apologizes for the fact that an article originally intended merely to explain the rules of succession to the priesthood of Diana at Aricia had expanded, over a period of thirty years, to twelve volumes. The present work cannot pretend to such heady levels of academic excellence.
