Download or read book Flowering Plants Dicotyledons written by Klaus Kubitzki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume - the first of this series dealing with angiosperms - comprises the treatments of 73 families, representing three major blocks of the dicotyledons: magnoliids, centrosperms, and hamamelids. These blocks are generally recognized as subclasses in modern textbooks and works of reference. We consider them a convenient means for structuring the hundreds of di cotyledon families, but are far from taking them at face value for biological, let alone mono phyletic entities. Angiosperm taxa above the rank of family are little consolidated, as is easily seen when comparing various modern classifications. Genera and families, in contrast, are comparatively stable units -and they are important in practical terms. The genus is the taxon most frequently recognized as a distinct entity even by the layman, and generic names provide the key to all in formation available about plants. The family is, as a rule, homogeneous enough to conve niently summarize biological information, yet comprehensive enough to avoid excessive re dundance. The emphasis in this series is, therefore, primarily on families and genera.

Download or read book Crop Production Technologies for Sustainable Use and Conservation written by Munir Ozturk and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-07 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crop Production Technologies for Sustainable Use and Conservation:Physiological and Molecular Advances presents an abundance of research on important and new production technologies for the successful sustainable production of major crops. The volume covers most of the major crops used the production of food, sugar, and commercial fiber. With the focus on sustainability and conservation issues in crop production, the chapters present molecular and physiological research and innovations for increasing yield, quality, and safety while also taking into considering increasing demand, diminishing water and land resources, and the agricultural consequences of climate change on crop production. The major crops discussed include wheat, mungbean, cotton, jute, sugarcane, eggplant, Solanum (such as potatoes and tomatoes), peppers, okra, fruits such as apples and pears, and more. The chapters report on new developments and research on production techniques related to various fertilizers, biosystematics and molecular biology of various crops, and building resistance to climatic change, including drought tolerance, salinity stresses, and more.

Download or read book Wildflowers of Mississippi written by S. Lee Timme and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2007 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With its variety of habitats, Mississippi contains an especially rich and diverse set of native and naturalized flowering plants. First published in 1989, this handy volume is the comprehensive, full-color guide to the state's lush array of wildflowers. Now available again, it provides both professional and amateur botanists a quick yet authoritative resource for identifying more than five hundred of the wildflowers found in Mississippi and its contiguous states. An appendix provides scientific names that have changed since the original edition. Descriptions of species have been consistently organized for ready reference and comparison. Information on plants has been arranged alphabetically by family, genera, and species within the two groups of flowering plants. Each of the five hundred plus species is fully described and is identified by one or more full-color photographs. Stephen L. Timme is professor of botany and director of the Theodore M. Sperry Herbarium at Pittsburg State University in Kansas. He is coauthor of Medicinal and Useful Plants of the Upper Amazon.
