En un diccionario de uso corriente quiz? se la encuentre (o no, como ocurre frecuentemente); sin embargo, obtendremos una definici?n m?s ligada al lenguaje de sentido com?n que a la terminolog?a cient?fica. O, en caso de que la definici?n hable en el sentido buscado, lo har? de manera pobre e incompleta. Tal vez en una enciclopedia la definici?n se ampl?e, pero dif?cilmente aborde la cuesti?n vinculada directamente con los temas y autores que el estudiante necesita analizar. En el otro extremo, los diccionarios especializados ofrecen definiciones tan desarrolladas y detalladas que terminan por agobiar al estudiante que tal vez quer?a tener una referencia r?pida del concepto para poder continuar con su lectura y se encuentra con que la entrada "hip?tesis" ocupa cinco, ocho o doce p?ginas. Otro ejemplo: en el CBC se estudian much?simo los paradigmas de Thomas Kuhn. En un diccionario com?n es casi imposible hallar esa definici?n. En una enciclopedia puede ser que haya alguna referencia si buscamos "Kuhn" y nada m?s. Y en un diccionario especializado de Filosof?a o Epistemolog?a, vamos a encontrar un desarrollo tan grande que excede las posibilidades de entendimiento y las ganas de leer del alumno ingresante.En cambio, en nuestro Diccionario B?sico el alumno encontrar? el t?rmino justo que est? estudiando, como "Paradigma (Thomas Kuhn)", con una explicaci?n breve, pero precisa y completa, en funci?n de sus necesidades. On the basis of the historical precedents and motivations that led to the concern about the language, chapter I establishes the theoretical and methodological base (Linguistic Pragmatics) for the analysis of the language of the DRAE (Diccionario de la Real Academia Española). After having established the parameters concerning the language of the dictionary, the author analyses (chapter II) the most representative articles of the academic Dictionary, which works as the center of interest because they are an expression of judgments about the society. The object of chapters III and IV is the study of the appearance of new words and the disappearance of others, as well as of the lexical meaning and grammatical information of the same ones. We do the distinction between the definition in metalengua of the content (own definition) and the definition in metalengua of the sign (the improper definition). An important group of lexical entries function as performative words, which means that when we use them, they are changed into speech acts. The last chapter is dedicated to the analysis of set phrases or locutions.
