Lengua oficial en veintitrés países y, desde 1974, una de las lenguas oficiales de la ONU, es también la lengua litúrgica de mil millones de musulmanes, muchos de los cuales creen que no pueden comprender el Corán si no es en su lengua original. Destinado a un público hispanohablante instruido en gramática árabe, este Diccionario de árabe culto moderno registra el léxico en uso; sigue, por tanto, una orientación descriptiva, no normativa, y presupone, para su utilización correcta, un conocimiento sólido de los elementos principales de esa gramática debido a la tradicional ordenación por raíces, que obedece a criterios científicos y pedagógicos. Se resalta así la estructura de las palabras, pero presenta el inconveniente de que para encontrarlas no basta con conocer el orden de las letras del alfabeto, sino que es indispensable un buen conocimiento de la gramática. Por este motivo, y para facilitar la consulta, se ha elaborado un Localizador (en el que se incluyen vocablos de difícil localización), así como unas instrucciones de uso que pretenden ayudar al lector a obtener el máximo rendimiento de este diccionario único.
