He decided at the time to keep a journal. He was able to record many of the fascinating delusions that were to afflict him. He experiences some common symptoms of schizophrenia, and records their impact on his life. Interspersed amongst these reflections are a number of other remarks on artists, writers and thinkers. He discussed William Blake, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Goethe, Milton Walt Whitman, Homer, Virgil and many others. There are detail analyses and criticisms of their works, as well discussion of the beauties of nature, and reflections upon the craft of writing, amongst other things. As the diary proceeds the writing gets clearer as the psychosis begins to slowly recede. There is even a relative equanimity that arises in the writing later in the diary as the author's happiness returns. About the Author Paul Fearne was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1975. Book Extract I wonder if I'll be able to write like I once did. After all that has happened to me and my mind. Will the store of ideas suddenly dry up? I sincerely hope not. For a start I'm not too sure that I like this laptop. The keyboard doesn't seem to suit my style of writing. The sound effects are also getting a little bit on my nerves. Somehow I think that my ability to write my memoirs has left me. It doesn't feel like the flow is there. I guess having you're emotions destroyed is very crippling to the creative process. Anyway, we'll see how I go in my next assignment. I have a feeling it won't be of that B plus standard, which is a shame because it was quite a pleasant surprise to find that mark on my last paper. I hadn't scored a B plus for quite sometime. Oh what am I thinking of, of course I'll get a B plus, I should be aiming for an A after the progression my grades have taken; C, B minus then a B plus. The logical progression is an A. Well enough of this preoccupation with grades. I'm getting the desire back to study and research, but I feel my mind is simply not up to the task any more. Its so frustrating, I just simply can't feel my emotions anymore. There's no sadness, no happiness, no response from my emotions whatsoever. There also seems to be no critical responsiveness from mind. When I read a piece of my work there isn't that critical faculty there anymore, there's just this blank emotionless slate which I peer into. Oh cruel fate, to cast upon one such as myself this burden of living without emotions. How does one live when there is no pleasure in anything! I used to live with a very acute sense of emotion, feeling everything that happened to me with a strong emotional punch. This is more than one person is able to stand.

Book Diary of a Schizophrenic

Download or read book Diary of a Schizophrenic written by Timothy June and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-03-10 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, you will follow the thoughts of a little boy growing up, tiny details that later take on huge importance later. How the enemy weaves lies all through our lives in our heads, setting up traps to tear us from Jesus. You will read of a touching story of saving a cats life by crude surgery when a hunter shoots it with an arrow. Times in my life when all abandoned me, including my family, because I was too much bother. I was left to rot in a VA hospital. I somehow summoned enough strength to run away and force people to care even when they didnt want to. Even on how I was led to sing the Star Spangled Banner over and over from inside an isolation room in a hospital, where I was drugged by three gorillas and given a shot in the ass because I wanted to talk to the doctor in person before I took any medicine. An instance when an orderly was attacked by a patient and I helped the orderly by jumping on the patients back. There are all sorts of supernatural things that happened, and only the love of Jesus kept me sane and not desire to seek revenge. How the Holy Spirit healed me and taught me to forgive all the wicked things that happened. How our system needs a serious overhaul and how doctors are given way too much power. I hope you read this book and it gives you a little compassion for people. Is it a big step from having a thought enter into your head and actually hearing the thought being spoken in your head? You are used to thoughts coming to you, but if it was out loud in your head, you would probably react a lot differently.

Book A Road Back from Schizophrenia

Download or read book A Road Back from Schizophrenia written by Arnhild Lauveng and published by Skyhorse Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2012-11-13 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For ten years, Arnhild Lauveng suffered as a schizophrenic, going in and out of the hospital for months or even a year at a time. A Road Back from Schizophrenia gives extraordinary insight into the logic (and life) of a schizophrenic. Lauveng illuminates her loss of identity, her sense of being controlled from the outside, and her relationship to the voices she heard and her sometimes terrifying hallucinations. Painful recollections of moments of humiliation inflicted by thoughtless medical professionals are juxtaposed with Lauveng’s own understanding of how such patients are outwardly irrational and often violent. She paints a surreal world—sometimes full of terror and sometimes of beauty—in which “the Captain” rules her by the rod and the school’s corridors are filled with wolves. When she was diagnosed with the mental illness, it was emphasized that this was a congenital disease, and that she would have to live with it for the rest of her life. Today, however, she calls herself a “former schizophrenic,” has stopped taking medication for the illness, and currently works as a clinical psychologist. Lauveng, though sometimes critical of mental health care, ultimately attributes her slow journey back to health to the dedicated medical staff who took the time to talk to her and who saw her as a person simply diagnosed with an illness—not the illness incarnate. A powerful memoir for sufferers, their families, and the professionals who care for them.

Book The Book of Malcolm

Download or read book The Book of Malcolm written by Fraser Sutherland and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 2022-01-18 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A father reflects on the rich life of his son, who died suddenly at twenty-six after living with schizophrenia. On the morning of Boxing Day 2009, the poet Fraser Sutherland and his wife found their son, Malcolm, dead in his bedroom in their house. He was twenty-six and had died from a seizure of unknown cause. Malcolm had been living with schizophrenia since the age of seventeen. Fraser’s respectful narration of Malcolm’s life — his happiness as well as his sufferings, his heroic efforts to calm his troubled mind, his readings, his writings, his experiments with religious thought — is a master writer’s attempt to give shape and dignity to his son’s life, to memorialize it as more than an illness. And in writing about his son’s life, Fraser creates his own self-effacing memoir — the memoir of a parent’s resilience through years of stressful care. Fraser Sutherland, one of Canada’s finest poetry critics and essayists, died shortly after completing this book. A RARE MACHINES BOOK
