This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A diallel analysis of eight upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) genotypes was conducted in the field over two years to determine the potential for improvement in within-boll seed yield components and fiber quality parameters. Four exotic germplasm lines from the converted race stock (CRS) collection and four commercial types representing Texas, mid-South, and Eastern production regions were crossed and evaluated in a diallel with parents but without reciprocals according to Griffing's Model I, Method 2. Significant variation for genotypic, general combining ability (GCA) effects, and specific combining ability (SCA) effects (P

Book Component Analysis of Upland Cotton Gossypium Hirsutum L in Different Environments

Download or read book Component Analysis of Upland Cotton Gossypium Hirsutum L in Different Environments written by S.K Kaushik and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The genetic makeup of an attribute comprises additive, dominance and epistasis variance. The information of the relative degree of genetic variance components is fundamental in the selection of appropriate breeding methodologies. The diallele analysis is the quickest method to enable predictions to be made based on early generations, which could greatly increase the efficiency of breeding programs. Component analysis revealed that additivedominance model fitted only for number of sympodial branches per plant in both the generations under all the three environments. The present study indicates the preponderance of dominance components for inheritance of this character. Heritability values in the narrow sense for this character varied from low (17.50 % in E2 F1) to moderate (46.58% in E2 F2). Since both additive and non-additive types of gene actions were present in different proportions, reciprocal recurrent selection is suggested for the improvement of the character.

Book Cotton Breeding and Biotechnology

Download or read book Cotton Breeding and Biotechnology written by Zulqurnain Khan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-03-14 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cotton Breeding and Biotechnology presents information on one of the most economically important crops of the world, cotton. It emphasizes sustainable development in the cotton industry analysing the progress of breeding technologies under environmental adversity. The book explores the national and global status of cotton crop, including cotton production, possible impacts of climate change, and the vulnerability of cotton to pest infestations and disease attacks. Features Focuses on cotton breeding and biotechnology Proposes ideas, data, and strategies to mount breeding programs for enhancing cotton production Details strategies for cotton quality improvement against abiotic and biotic stresses Emphasizes the revival of cotton in Pakistan and South Asian region This book is useful to researchers, cotton breeders and growers, farmers, and the agriculture industry.

Book New Frontiers in Stress Management for Durable Agriculture

Download or read book New Frontiers in Stress Management for Durable Agriculture written by Amitava Rakshit and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-23 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using accessible farming practices to meet the growing demands on agriculture is likely to result in more intense competition for natural resources, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and further deforestation and land degradation, which will in turn produce additional stress in the soil-water-plant-animal continuum. Stress refers to any unfavorable force or condition that inhibits customary functioning in plants. Concurrent manifestations of different stresses (biotic and abiotic) are very frequent in the environment of plants, which consequently reduces yield. Better understanding stress not only changes our perspective on the current environment, but can also bring a wealth of benefits, like improving sustainable agriculture and human beings’ living standards. Innovative systems are called for that protect and enhance the natural resource base, while increasing productivity via ‘holistic’ approaches, such as agroecology, agro-forestry, climate-smart agriculture and conservation agriculture, which also incorporate indigenous and traditional knowledge. The book ‘New Frontiers in Stress Management for Durable Agriculture’ details the current state of knowledge and highlights scientific advances concerning novel aspects of plant biology research on stress, biotic and abiotic stress responses, as well as emergent amelioration and reclamation technologies to restore normal functioning in agroecology.
