Book Optical Emission Diagnostics of a Non equilibrium Atmospheric Pressure Helium Plasma Jet in Ambient Air

Download or read book Optical Emission Diagnostics of a Non equilibrium Atmospheric Pressure Helium Plasma Jet in Ambient Air written by Eduardo Hernandez and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasmas are increasingly attracting more attention from the scientific community for their potential use in surface treatment and biomedical applications. Even though considerable progress has been made, investigation of the species generated at close proximity (1 mm to ~100 nm) to a surface has not been addressed due to limitations of common optical techniques. A novel approach using Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) that can probe emissions over this distance away from the surface has been investigated. Additionally, the presence of high energy VUV photons was confirmed and these can play an important role in the propagation of plasma jets. By performing temporally resolved OES, it was determined that excitation of O, N, OH, NO and N2+ is predominantly due to collisions between He* and their precursors, whereas the N2 emissions are due to electron impact that produces electronically excited N2.

Book A Streamer Like Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet Postprint

Download or read book A Streamer Like Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet Postprint written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The properties of an atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) are examined in a single-cell dielectric capillary configuration. In contrast to some other flow-driven APPJs, this stable, cold plasma jet is electrically driven, composed of rapidly propagating ionization fronts with speeds of the order of 107 sq cm. Using spatially and temporally resolved optical diagnostics, it is demonstrated that the plasma jet is initiated independent of the dielectric barrier discharge inside the capillary. It is also shown that the properties and dynamics of this APPJ are directly analogous to those of positive corona streamer discharges.

Book The Modelling and Characterization of Dielectric Barrier Discharge Based Cold Plasma Jets

Download or read book The Modelling and Characterization of Dielectric Barrier Discharge Based Cold Plasma Jets written by G Divya Deepak and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-15 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-equilibrium atmospheric pressure plasma jets (APPJs) are of intense interest in current low-temperature plasma research because of their immense potential for material processing and biomedical applications. Depending on the jet configuration and the electrical excitation, plasma characteristics including heat, charged particle, electric field, and chemically active species may differ significantly. Other important parameters of importance in these studies are the kind of utilized working gas and gas flow rate. This book presents the electrical characterization of DBD-based APPJs for three electrode arrangements: ring electrode, pin electrode and floating helix electrode configurations. The analysis presented here will serve to help in establishing an optimum range of operation for a cold plasma jet without arcing and without any physical damage to the electrodes. Furthermore, the experimental results provided in the book establish the significance of the type of working gas on the power consumption and on the jet length obtained. These developed cold DBD-based APPJs of larger lengths may be useful for diverse biological applications and surface treatments.

Book Advanced Optical Diagnostics of Atmospheric Pressure Plasma

Download or read book Advanced Optical Diagnostics of Atmospheric Pressure Plasma written by Qing Xiong and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atmospheric-pressure plasma has been employed in various applications including bio-medicine, environmental pollution control, material processing. Diagnostic characterization of plasma sources is critical and indispensable for plasma control and achieving optimized treatment efficiency. In this chapter we will introduce several advanced optical techniques to visualize the detailed physical-and-chemical properties of atmospheric-pressure discharges. Non-invasive approaches of optical emission spectroscopy (OES), schlieren or shadowgraph, invasive methods of active laser spectroscopy including laser-induced fluorescence (LIF), laser or broadband absorption, cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS), and laser scattering are illustrated. Basic plasma parameters of gas temperature, electron density and temperature, electric field strength, and reactive chemical gaseous species (O, H, N, OH, NO, O3, etc.) are able to be monitored. Comparisons and comments of these approaches are provided depending on diagnostic purposes.
