Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise and practical guide enables the gynecologist to differentiate between benign and malignant gynecologic conditions to determine the best management options for the patient. Over the past three decades, as the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology has matured into a broad and diverse group of skills and disciplines, it has become apparent that there are diagnoses and conditions in gynecologic oncology where the obstetrician-gynecologist has a level of uncertainty, or lack of confidence in his ability or knowledge base to adequately manage the patient and therefore refers the patient to a gynecologic oncologist. This text portrays the advances in the field and reviews the current management of a number of gynaecologic conditions to give the reader the confidence needed to deal with these issues. The distinguides Editors have crafted the book to include: Case vignettes to provide clinical context Pathology notes to aid diagnostic outcomes Management guidance for obgyn practitioners to enable the best outcome for their patients Each topic is introduced with a concise overview followed by case-based scenarios which discuss the specific management of common problems. Providing the general gynecologist with the current clinical information necessary to manage conditions and identify the situations where consultation or referral to a gynecologic oncologist would be in the patient’s best interest.

Book Comprehensive Cervical Cancer Control

Download or read book Comprehensive Cervical Cancer Control written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2006 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most women who die from cervical cancer, particularly in developing countries, are in the prime of their life. They may be raising children, caring for their family, and contributing to the social and economic life of their town or village. Their death is both a personal tragedy, and a sad and unnecessary loss to their family and their community. Unnecessary, because there is compelling evidence, as this Guide makes clear, that cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable forms of cancer, as long as it is detected early and managed effectively. Unfortunately, the majority of women in developing countries still do not have access to cervical cancer prevention programmes. The consequence is that, often, cervical cancer is not detected until it is too late to be cured. An urgent effort is required if this situation is to be corrected. This Guide is intended to help those responsible for providing services aimed at reducing the burden posed by cervical cancer for women, communities and health systems. It focuses on the knowledge and skills needed by health care providers, at different levels of care.

Book Noninvasive Molecular Markers in Gynecologic Cancers

Download or read book Noninvasive Molecular Markers in Gynecologic Cancers written by Debmalya Barh and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2015-01-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early detection is critical for any given cancer. With the advent of the latest omics technologies, molecular markers in combination with conventional diagnostic and screening methods are emerging as next-generation early diagnostic and prognostic strategies that can allow early-stage diagnosis, resulting in more effective treatment and patient care and, in turn, an increased rate of survival. A ready-made resource, Noninvasive Molecular Markers in Gynecologic Cancers not only provides information on noninvasive molecular diagnostic biomarkers, it includes coverage of the epidemiology, clinical features, conventional diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis for these cancers. With contributions from leading international experts, the book presents a compact but comprehensive overview of gynecologic cancer. Each of the five main gynecologic cancers—ovarian, cervical, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar—have unique signs and symptoms, risk factors, and molecular profile, and therefore requires different prevention strategies. This book describes the different features of each gynecologic cancer in separate chapters covering general information, epidemiology, clinical features, and biomarkers. The book also covers breast cancer and, although rare, fallopian tube cancer, to make it a complete resource. In cancer treatment, non-invasive diagnosis can avoid complications of biopsy and other unfavorable impacts on patients’ health. DNA, methylation, SNPs, miRNA, mRNA, protein, autoantibodies, metabolite, and omics-based markers from remote media such as blood, plasma, and urine are emerging as noninvasive molecular markers with high specificity and sensitivity towards many cancers. This book classifies the available molecular tumor markers according to their principal characteristics and relative methodologies. It covers markers that not only provide early detection and better treatment options, but are emerging as next-generation personalized diagnostics and targets or therapeutics for personalized cancer treatment.

Book Influence of Race ethnicity and Measures of Healthcare Access on the Incidence Stage at Diagnosis and Survival of Rare Gynecologic Cancers in California Women

Download or read book Influence of Race ethnicity and Measures of Healthcare Access on the Incidence Stage at Diagnosis and Survival of Rare Gynecologic Cancers in California Women written by Amanda Blithe Hawkins and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rare gynecologic cancers represent 3.4% of all cancers of women in the US and may disproportionately affect specific demographic groups due to access to healthcare. In California, the gynecologic cancers that meet the NCI criteria of rare cancer are ovarian, cervical, vulvar, vaginal, and other gynecologic cancers. The influence of race/ethnicity and measures of healthcare access on incidence, risk of late stage at diagnosis, and 5-year cancer site-specific survival rates for all rare gynecologic cancers were examined in the large and racially diverse population of the California Cancer Registry from 1988-2009. Factors of healthcare access were measured by SES, health insurance status, and US-born status. We found that the association between healthcare access and rare gynecologic cancer outcomes varied by cancer site, cancer outcome, race/ethnicity and the particular measure of healthcare access. Proportional incidence of HPV-related cancers were increased for women with low SES, especially NH Whites. Private insurance and US birthplace status decreased proportional incidence by race/ethnicity for all rare gynecologic cancer sites. Risk of late stage at diagnosis for HPV-related cancers varied by measures of healthcare access. Race/ethnicity and insurance status were the most important predictors of ovarian cancer late-stage risk while private insurance was associated with lower risk of late stage at diagnosis for other female genital organ cancers. Cervical and ovarian cancer survival were associated with race/ethnicity, SES and insurance status. The risk of death for all rare gynecologic cancers, except other gynecologic cancers, was reduced for women born outside the US.
