Book The Voice of the Seven Thunders

Download or read book The Voice of the Seven Thunders written by George Kevyn Weber and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-07-18 with total page 795 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no time for the people of the world to waste to decide to change their ways and their ways of living. The world is in a crisis that it has not been in before. Actually the world has been in countless crises in the past, before disaster, calamity or catastrophe struck the people of the earth. We are not talking of crises of natural disasters, calamities or catastrophes that have hit the earth, we are talking about man made, man engineered and man designed disasters, calamities and catastrophes that have hit the world from time to time. History is full of them and apart from those natural disasters caused by God or the Devil themselves; the rest were caused by man themselves. Now this revelation is not about the natural but about the spiritual. Power mad dictators, rulers and potentates the world over are normally the cause of these disasters, calamities and catastrophes and nature has little to do with them although they did affect nature, in some way or another. Small and great Wars were started by whosoever caused them without any due regard of men's lives, and the resultant horrors, hardships and horrendous pain, lived on in the hearts and lives of the people that survived. No one can add these things up nor can they count the cost in human suffering, misery and pain, nor the cost of men's souls lost all for the sake of man's vanity. "The current synopsis is catchy and intriguing. This synopsis is well written and it will entice readers into picking this book up and reading it." - Cynthia Sherman Writer's Literary & Publishing Services, Critique Division

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite more than two centuries of having tacitly recognized its enormous potential utility, the phenomenon of hypnosis has always been commonly regarded with outright Fear and Loathing. How is it possible that something as beneficial to humanity as hypnosis ever came to be viewed in such a horrible manner? I intend to show that the history of hypnotism provides us with the clue to this unfortunate legacy; and I've neither spared anyone's feelings nor pulled any punches in this quest to reveal the shamefully appalling level of incompetence and ignorance that has characterized the (mis)use of this phenomenon since its discovery by Mesmer more than two hundred years ago.

Book Toni Morrison s Fiction

Download or read book Toni Morrison s Fiction written by David L. Middleton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-01-28 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of contemporary criticism explores her concern with racial and gender issues and analyzes her in relation to other major modern authors, her philosophical and religious speculations, and her preoccupation with the process of fiction-making. These classics provide a broad look at critical argument about Toni Morrison's meanings and significance during the past 10 years. From the formative effects of learning one's Otherness as a result of majority perception, to the apocalyptic implications of racial memory, to the moral and psychologically constructive act of storytelling, to the structural function served by improvisational jazz music, to the imagery associated with both flight and naming, to the uniquely female experience of community-major issues raised by Morrison's body of work are explicated here.

Book Poetry Underpinning Power

Download or read book Poetry Underpinning Power written by Hans-Peter Stahl and published by Classical Press of Wales. This book was released on 2016-03-31 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades, international research on Virgil has been marked, if not dominated, by the ideas of the 'Harvard School' and similar trends, according to which the poet was engaged in an elaborate work of subtle subversion, directed against the new ruler of the Roman world, Octavian-Augustus. Much of Virgil's oeuvre consists prima facie of eulogy of the ruler, and of emphatic prediction of his enduring success: this is explained by numerous modern critics as generic convention, or as studied ambiguity, or as irony. This paradoxical position, which runs against ancient-as well as much modern-interpretation of the poet, continues to create widespread unease. Stahl's new monograph is the most thorough study so far to question modern Virgilian criticism on philological grounds. He based himself on the internal logic and rhetoric of the Aeneid, and considers also political, historical, archaeological and philosophical subjects addressed by the poem. He finds that the poet has so presented the morality of his central figure, Augustus' supposed ancestor Aeneas, and of those who (eventually) clash with him, Turnus and Dido, as to make it certain that Roman readers and hearers of the poem were meant to conclude in Aeneas' favour. Virgil's intention emerges from Stahl's thorough, ingenious and original argumentation as decisively pro-Augustan. Stahl's work, in short, will not only enliven debate on current critical hypotheses but for many will enduringly affect their credibility.

Book Masters and Lords

  • Author : Shearer Davis Bowman
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press

Download or read book Masters and Lords written by Shearer Davis Bowman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1993-04-29 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the regional landed elites in the Western World of the mid-1800s, the two most formidable were the owners of slave plantations in the Southern states of the U.S. and the proprietors of manorial estates in the provinces of Prussian East Elbia. Masters and Lords surveys the economic, social, and political histories of the two classes from the seventeenth and sixteenth centuries respectively, and pays particular attention to planters during the secession crisis of 1860-61 and to Junkers during the revolutionary crisis of 1848-49. In the process, Bowman grapples with such ambiguous and contentious concepts as capitalism, conservatism, and paternalism. Despite very different labor systems, antebellum planters and contemporaneous Junkers alike presided over landed estates that functioned as both autocratic political communities and agricultural enterprises exporting valuable commodities to industrializing England. This book also highlights important geographic, demographic, and political contrasts between the South and East Elbia as regional societies. Bowman concludes that the crucial distinction between the two landed elites is to be found in the Junkers' militarist and estatist monarchism versus the planters' libertarian but racist republicanism.

Book Town Union Governance

Download or read book Town Union Governance written by Felix I. Nweke and published by Adonis & Abbey Publishers Ltd. This book was released on 2017-02-01 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Town union governments are powerful agents of development through promoting peace, economic and environmental protection activities at the village community level in Eastern Nigeria. Igbo communities organize town unions as indigenous self-help community development associations without government influence as a platform for implementing development projects in their towns/villages. Recently Igbo State governments have begun recognizing town unions as an important tier of their governments along with the Council of Chiefs. This book is a documentary of the author's experience as head of a town union government in Eastern Nigeria. The book highlights the desperate plight of the poor in societies that are in transition from rural to urban communities and draws attention to the increasing demands on town union governments as agents of change in such societies. The book cautions that government's interference in the administration of town unions will compromise their foundational element, namely as self-help institutions.
